Electrify America Opens Indoor EV Fast Charging Station In San Francisco

Standing as the largest open DC fast charging network in the United States, Electrify America has announced that its first indoor EV fast charging station in San Francisco has officially opened.

Featuring 20 hyper-fast chargers delivering up to 350 kW of charging might, this new facility is intended to allow for easy access for EV drivers visiting the South Market area in San Francisco. However, the allure of this station goes further than just charging, as customers can also access the lounge areas, which boast food and beverage vending options, complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, and restrooms.

“We’re committed to making EVs accessible to all, particularly in dense urban areas like San Francisco,” Electrify American President and CEO Robert Barrosa claimed in a prepared statement. “Our expertise in building over 250 stations in California and more than 900 in North America uniquely positions us to bring high-quality charging infrastructure directly into communities where people live and work and support EV adoption across the state.”

It’s worth noting that this charging station will be open 24/7 and features around-the-clock security.

In regards to GM-related charging developments, The General and EV Connect recently built upon an existing partnership to expand the compatibility between EV Connect’s Plug and Charge system with GM vehicles through apps. More specifically, GM drivers can now plug in and charge their vehicles on the EV Connect network without swiping a payment card or scanning an RFID tag at roughly 200 compatible DC fast chargers across the United States.

This collaboration was done to assist in simplifying public charging endeavors for electric vehicles while providing a hassle-free charging experience, which in turn enables customers to spend less time initiating charging sessions and avoid scanning, swiping, or inputting billing information. Through a one-time enrollment with a GM vehicle app, drivers are able to opt-in to the Plug and Charge technology in order to start charging in their vehicle at participating stations.

  1. In SanFran Freakshow it probably has to be indoors to be somewhat safe from thieves, carjackers , and druggies roaming the streets.

    1. Exactly, less chance of getting robbed or having feces thrown at you.

  2. I can’t imagine having to sit around for close to an hour to charge my vehicle. besides if i owned a EV there is no way I would ever let a DC rapid charger touch my battery. Everyone knows charging a battery that fast damages the battery life. EVs are great if you can charge them at home on a level 2 charger that is much more battery friendly.

  3. Hey honey let’s go get a bit to eat and charge our EV. Maybe we won’t get robbed again.
Give me a break!. What a joke.

  4. Old systems could be harmed by DC fast charging. Modern chargers and the systems in the cars are made for DC fast charging. With pre-conditioning and charging to 80% there is no damage.

  5. Well this is their showcase. The demand charges PG & E are going to put on the bill will mean this station will have to be very heavily used to break even. No clue from this article as to whether economizing stationary battery packs are used , but the trend in San Fran is that stores, banks, and hamburger joints are all closing

Don’t exactly see how they will woo suburbanites to this thing. Maybe it is just a showcase and profitability is a minor concern to them.

A profitable installAtion would have 50, and 150 kw units as the bulk of the chargers and a relatively few pricey 350 kw units.
