Corvette Z06 Rival, Updated 2025 Porsche 911 Turbo, Spied Testing

Porsche is poised to deliver a refresh for the 911 sports car, updating Stuttgart’s rival to the mid-engine Corvette and C8 Z06. The refreshed Porsche 911 will be known as the 992.2 generation, and will feature an updated twin-turbocharged flat-six engine and hybrid system. Now, our spy photographers have captured an updated 2025 Porsche 911 Turbo prototype out and about undergoing testing.

The front end of the refreshed 2025 Porsche 911 Turbo.

The front fascia of this refreshed 2025 Porsche 911 Turbo prototype is equipped with a mildly camouflaged bumper that hides a few small areas of the 911 Turbo design. However, despite the covered bits, this styling is not expected to make it to the final production vehicle. Rather, rumor has it Porsche is planning a far more-extensive update to the new 911 Turbo’s face, and that the new look has yet to be finalized – or perhaps didn’t make it onto this particular prototype.

The refreshed 2025 Porsche 911 Turbo is expected to bring significant changes to the rear as well, including new taillights and a new exhaust treatment. This prototype gives a glimpse of things to come, despite all the snow spray obscuring the new look.

Perhaps the most significant changes will be made under the skin, where the updated 911 Turbo will run either one or two electric motors in conjunction with the flat-six internal combustion engine, transforming the new 911 Turbo and Turbo S into hybrid models. Naturally, the new motor / motors and requisite battery pack will take up additional room and add weight, and it’s believed that the redesigned exhaust helps to accommodate the hybrid packaging.

The current Porsche 911 Turbo doles out a maximum of 572 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 553 pound-feet of torque at 2,250 rpm, while the Turbo S produces 640 horsepower at 6,750 rpm and 590 pound-feet of torque at 2,500 rpm. For the sake of comparison, the C8 Corvette Z06 produces a maximum of 670 horsepower at 8,400 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 6,300 rpm thanks to the naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 LT6 gasoline engine. Looking ahead, the forthcoming C8 ZR1 is expected to dole out even more power thanks to a new forced induction variant of the LT6 dubbed the LT7.

Looking over the latest sales figures, the C8 Corvette continues to dominate in the Premium Sports Car segment in terms of U.S. sales volume, selling 34,353 units during the 2023 calendar year, as compared to 11,692 units for the Porsche 911 during the same timeframe:

  1. The GT3 is the Z06 rival, not the turbo. The Corvette rival to the turbo is the E-ray.

  2. I agree with CK … apples are not oranges, even if both are fruit.
