Corvette Carrier Truck Stolen In Arizona, Thief Just Needed A Ride To Get Home

A thief in Cochise County, Arizona stole a truck carrying over a million dollars’ worth of Chevy Corvette C8 sports cars late last week in an apparent bid not to cash in on the vehicles, but to simply get home after being released from prison, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office reported on Facebook.

Isaiah Walker, the 23-year-old suspect, stole the truck by speaking its driver at the Willcox Loves Truck Stop, then unexpectedly yanking him out of the cab and jumping inside himself, according to police.

Apparently not wanting to live up to his last name during his return to his home in Lawton, Oklahoma, about 785 miles away, Walker locked the car carrier’s doors and drove the truck out of the truck stop. In doing so, he also stole the ten 2024 Chevy Corvette units it was carrying – cars worth more than $1.25 million dollars combined.

The getaway vehicle was easy to recognize with its load of wrapped and tied-down Vettes, and was soon found by a deputy in the vicinity of Browns Market. Seeing flashing lights in his mirror and hearing sirens, Walker responded by putting the hammer down and blasting along the road at high speed.

The sight of a car carrier loaded with Chevy Corvette units charging wildly down the road with a police car screaming after it with lights flashing sent other motorists swerving off the road onto any available exit to avoid the bizarre pursuit. Apparently finally realizing he wasn’t going to elude the police while driving a huge, highly visible truck, Walker turned off onto County Line Road, where he brought the rig to a halt.

The police immediately nabbed the perp, who fessed up to stealing the truck, but offered the explanation that he was just trying to get home and had no nefarious designs on the Chevy Corvette sports cars themselves. The police, unimpressed, booked him for 11 counts of vehicle theft, robbery, and felony theft and escorted him off to jail, no doubt a temporary halt on his return to his home-away-from-home, prison.

Willcox chief of police Dale Hadfield praised the “great restraint and patience in bringing a serious crime to a peaceful resolution” shown by the officers involved.

The chief also noted “the stolen vehicle was safely recovered without damage and was released to the driver so he could continue his delivery,” a detail those customers who have likely been waiting for months to receive their Chevy Corvette order will likely appreciate.

  1. What was he thinking? Perhaps too deep a question.

  2. Not real bright. Lawton, OK is about 35 miles east of me & I hope they keep him in Arizona a while as we’ve got enough of those types already. At least he didn’t wreck with truck with all those Corvettes. I remember a bunch of Camaros getting stolen from the Lansing lot & wife was glad her 2022 SS wasn’t one of them.

  3. That would have made for an awesome PIT maneuver!
