Chevy Traverse Limited Production Restarts At Lansing Delta Township Plant

Production at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan was recently idled due to a supply chain issue on February 23rd, 2024, temporarily halting production of the 2024 Chevy Traverse Limited. A solution was quickly reached, however, and operations resumed on February 26th, allowing the crossover to start rolling off the assembly line once more.

According to a report from Automotive News, all employees affected by the temporary shutdown were scheduled to return to their normal shifts on Monday. Specifically, 2,300 employees on two production shifts were affected by the downtime. GM did not reveal specifics regarding the supply chain issue, but stated that it has been resolved. Additionally, the Lansing Delta Township plant was the only North American GM facility affected.

While the Delta Township plant handles production of the Chevy Traverse, the Buick Enclave, and the all-new GMC Acadia, only Traverse Limited production has resumed, as assembly of the 2024 Buick Enclave has already wrapped up and Acadia production will not commence until March.

As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Traverse Limited is available for a shortened model year as a carryover model as a result of the UAW labor strike in late 2023, which delayed the launch of the all-new third generation 2024 Chevrolet Traverse. The Traverse Limited offers the same configurations and trim levels as the 2023 model-year crossover, and its trim level lineup consists of LS, LT Cloth, LT Leather, RS, Premier, and High Country. The Traverse Limited does not feature any special “Limited” badging, however, and is outwardly identical to its 2023 model year counterpart.

“The 2024 Traverse Limited will be available for a short period as we ramp up production for the all-new 2024 Traverse, which will launch in early 2024, just as we announced when we revealed it earlier this year,” a Chevy spokesperson said in a statement. “By offering today’s current generation as the Traverse Limited, we can better meet customer demand as we make way for the introduction of the next-generation, all-new Chevrolet Traverse.”

    1. By the time it comes out, they will have to call it a 2025!!

    2. They are building the 3rd gen traverse since they came back from the 2 week shutdown on February 5th. This article is incorrect and they stopped building the limited 2nd gen traverse January 22nd.

  2. Mike I’d rather wait then have a rushed recall nightmare. Why can’t people wait anymore years ago a new car was announced and people just waited to buy it.

  3. The referenced article about Acadia says SORP for it begins March 4th, next monday. Will gm be running the “limited” model with the new design at the same time?

  4. Of course, they didn’t comment on the specifics. GM is the most non-transparent automotive company….

  5. I thought they already stopped making the limited and started the new model. Then the Acadia was supposed to start in March

    1. You are correct. They stopped production on the limited back in January and started production on the 3rd generation traverse when they came back from a 2 week shutdown/changeover on February 5th. Whoever wrote this article has no idea what they are talking about.

  6. Last chance to get a new Traverse with a 3.6 V6.

  7. Will this be available with the 3.6 or only a junk 2.7? If it comes with a 3.6 I am interested!

    1. His basis is in knowing it all.

He knows as much as those who refer to the 2.7 as “overstressed” because it is turbocharged, ignoring the FACT it was designed with turbocharging in mind from the day pen hit paper on the drafting board.

His grandfather probably sniveled and whined when overhead valve V8s came to Ford instead of good ol’ flatheads. 12V electrics were just a way to save money by making wires skinnier. Solid state radio power supplies were never going to be as good as vibrators. What was wrong with a good ol’ speedometer cable rather than an electronic chopper-wheel sensor? And, what’s wrong with a generator, anyway?!?

I am an old codger rapidly approaching 75. Old enough to remember Hudsons, DeSotos, and GMC trucks that were actually different from Chevy trucks. I learned to drive in a Studebaker.

Yet, I appreciate the modern advancements I have seen over the years. Brakes that don’t fade; engines that go 250,000 miles easily with just normal care; tires that last tens of thousands of miles; brakes that can go 100,000 miles.

As for “thrashing” four cylinder engines, I have owned many 4-bangers over the years. The last one that “thrashed” was in a Fiat 124 with an 1100cc engine that would “thrash” all day at 75mph and keep coming back for more. My present car has a 1600cc engine in a hybrid drivetrain. It runs like a champ, and while it is not a CTS-V with a Blue Devil motor it steps out smartly, is smooth and quiet, and feels like it will go a long time. If I bought a Traverse or Acadia I’d not give the 2.5 engine a second thought.

      1. I generally don’t pay much attention to Vikings, but I did appreciate your pov. I am waiting on the gen 3 Traverse. Currently in a Ford Edge with the 2.0 ecoboost. I also drive an F150 with the 3.5 ecoboost. Amazing engines to say the least. I grew up on V8 power, swore I’d never have an ecoboost when they came out. Freind of mine is a Chevy dealer in town, small town Iowa so I’m limited on vehicle brands unless I want to travel to the nearest city for service. No Thanks!

  8. @ Retired Viking…I owned a 2010 Chevy Equinox with the V6 it was a good car it lasted thirteen years, I own a 2020 2.0T Equinox and all I can say is that the 4 cylinder turbo is much better then the V6 in power delivery, fuel mileage it’s also not as noisy under hard acceleration. People can disagree with me a probably will everyone is entitled to their opinion but GM could have went and said ok let’s put a weaker less powerful engine then the V6 in the Traverse, Acadia and Enclave, these are probably people who remember 80s and 90s 4 cylinder turbo engines always braking that was thirty or fourty years ago please didn’t any of the old Japanese 4 cylinder cars teah us that you don’t need a bigger motor to make more power…now that American has finally caught on people are still not happy. Just change the oil regularly and maintain that engine and it will last for years.

  10. How about updates, specs & availability on 2024 Traverse…ARE ANY AT DEALERSHIPS? Not near me.

    1. I haven’t heard anything. The car salesman at the dealership I want to buy it from won’t even call me about the Acadia. They don’t care since they probably aren’t getting much information and are too busy selling 2023 models. I’ve been patiently waiting, though. Frustrating!!
