Chevy Tahoe And Suburban Recalled For Incorrect Catalytic Converter Service Part

An emission recall issued by General Motors includes 2022 to 2023 Chevy Tahoe and 2022 to 2023 Chevy Suburban SUVs that may have an incorrect catalytic converter installed. The recall also applies to GMC and Cadillac models mechanically similar to the Tahoe and Suburban.

The problem: During earlier service, affected Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban units may have had an incorrect catalytic converter installed, which can cause the sport-utility vehicles to fail to meet the proper emissions standards.

The hazards: The incorrect catalytic converter fitted to affected Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban models could cause an emissions test to fail if it does not meet the local emissions standard. A failed emissions test can prevent owners from renewing their registration.

The fix: Before starting work on a possibly affected Chevy Tahoe or Chevy Suburban unit, the service personnel at the dealership should check the Investigate Vehicle History to see if the SUV in question is marked “Open.” The GM Global Warranty Management system can be used to verify this information.

If the Tahoe or Suburban is included in the voluntary emissions recall, the current catalytic converter should be removed, and a new L87 3-way catalytic converter should be installed. Two new exhaust seals are also needed. GM estimates the entire task to require approximately 96 minutes to complete. Owners may be eligible for reimbursement for the repair.

Affected components: Just the catalytic converter. Only Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban units from the 2022 and 2023 model years powered by the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine developing 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque are included in the emissions recall.

Affected vehicles:

Number of affected vehicles: GM has not revealed the total number of vehicles fitted with incorrect catalytic converters. The automaker has instructed dealers that involved vehicles should not be sold, delivered, traded to other dealerships, or used in demonstrations until correct repairs have been completed. Until then, the vehicles must remain in inventory.

      1. Owners may be eligible for reimbursement??? It’s a dang gone recall!!! An emissions one at that!!! Those are warranted for around 100,000 miles I believe? They should give you a years worth of free car washes for the inconvenience!!! They probably knowingly installed the wrong ones just to get production out. If we get caught we’ll just plead ignorance and change them out. Cross our fingers boys! Another GM Con Job!

  2. Good luck with waiting for the replacement CAT. There still remains thousands and thousands of vehicles with defective. Air Bags on Dealer Lots and in Owner’s possession since late last Summer still waiting for new, safer Air Bags to replace the shrapnel producing junk that was OEM.

  3. stop saying how long the estimated recall time should take. you have people thinking it will only take an hour and a half to do. “well I think I’ll wait for that to be done”. it doesn’t say that I’m going to let the truck sit for 6 hours before I can touch the damn thing. same with block heatter only worse. coolant is only 200 degrees. converters are way hotter after 2 minutes

  4. my 2021 tahoe smells like exhaust when we turn on the a/c or heater. When we took it to the dealer they changed a air filter and claim they dont smell anything! It clearly smells like exhaust! the smell is strong. We only use the heater to defrost the windshield and with windows down. fremont ford are crooks and Chevy get it together!

  5. I can’t believe you say that Chevy would charge for that, since it’s a factory recall
