Chevy Demonstrates Trailer App in New Video

Chevrolet is highlighting some of the features of the brand’s trailer app in a brief new video.

Clocking in at less than a minute, the video is hosted by Chevy Silverado product Manager Kristin Baragwanath, who leads the viewer through a brief overview of what the Chevy trailer app has to offer.

The Chevy trailer app in the Chevy Silverado.

The app is accessible from the main infotainment screen in the vehicle cabin, and includes up to five custom trailer profiles for those folks with more than one trailer (up to 25 trailer profiles are available via the myChevrolet mobile app). Profiles include a custom trailer name, hitch type (conventional, fifth-wheel, or gooseneck), and trailer type.

The trailer app also includes several safety items that could prove helpful before you hit the road. Users can flash the trailer lights to ensure they are working properly, run through a checklist of safety items (hook up safety chains, check tire pressure, properly inflate the tires, etc.), and set up maintenance reminders to keep the trailer in top condition. The app also enables users to do more technical things, such as adjust the trailer brake gain.

“The trailering app is a great tool that simplifies setup for one of the most capable towing trucks on the road,” Baragwanath says.

In order to access the full feature set in the in-vehicle trailer app, first log into the Personal Profile in the infotainment system and create a custom trailer profile, then select all the appropriate settings. Users can also import a profile previously created in the myChevrolet mobile app. Other features include trailer tire pressure and temperature monitoring, and trailer theft alert.

  1. Who cares when the trailer brake software is constantly disconnecting, misreading, or throwing an error! Gimmicks are a nice icing on the cake when everything else works 100% correct, but come across as misguided and a resource drain when crucial componentry fails to perform its function.

I have not had one tow yet where I haven’t received some sort of trailer brake error which then magically resets/corrects itself on my 2024 Chevy 2500 HD. Are the trailer brakes connected? Are they working? Who knows. Let me just manually tap the gain at 70 MPH to find out…

This is an error that many are experiencing. Get it together, GM. Dealership will be diagnosing it on your warranty dime next time I go in for service.

    1. Single Malt,

I ran into this issue and found that the trailer brake wires that route into the trailer axles were chafing. Once I insulated the wires, the system began to work as expected. The dealer will install a trailer simulator plug into your truck which will only diagnose the truck and not the trailer. If the dealer diagnosis shows the truck is OK, this would indicate that you most likely have a trailer issue. My issue was intermittent and was a challenge to locate. Both my previous 2015 truck and the new 2023 truck were reporting a brake issue.

  2. I really like the trailer app on my 2023 Sierra 1500 where it monitors the lighting and braking system along with trailer tire pressure and temperature. And it does this with perfection.
However I have one annoying issue. The GVW calculation from the truck is incorrect where the “GVW may be exceeded” comes on and remains orange through the entire drive. Even more annoying is that if I turn off the GVW alert, it will still report out. My trailer is far below the capability of the truck but can act as a wind break due to the large frontal area. So a head wind will trigger this system even when its turned off. My travel trailer weighs in at 6500 lbs. and far below the rated 9000 lbs. for this truck.
GM , please provide an update to this system to be more accurate or at least allow us to turn the darn thing off.
