As GM Authority has been studiously keeping tabs on, General Motors issued a stop-sale order on the Chevy Blazer EV back in late December 2023. While the Detroit-based automaker has reportedly been hard at work developing a fix for the software quality-related concerns, it appears as though The General still hasn’t resolved the issues.
For reference, the stop-delivery order has been outstanding for nearly two months now, with GM still working on resolving the Blazer EV’s software issues. GM Authority has reached out to General Motors for an update, but the Detroit-based automaker had nothing to share with us at this time.
It’s worth noting that GM sent out a memo to its Chevy dealerships back in mid-January 2024, informing them that a floor plan compensation program is in place. Of course, this is generally considered a normal procedure for stop-sale orders, helping dealers cover the costs of holding vehicles in inventory.
As a reminder, General Motors CEO Mary Barra released a statement regarding the Blazer EV’s software quality-related concerns back in late January 2024 during the GM Q4 2023 earnings presentation.
“Our software and services team is also in the process of resolving the stability issues some customers have experienced with the Chevrolet Blazer EV that impacted their screens and charging experience, and they are working with a huge sense of urgency to lift the stop-sales soon,” Barra was quoting as stating. “We disappointed these customers, and we know it. We are determined to get the software right, and we will. We have made several organizational and process improvements that will help us deliver the best possible customer experience going forward.”
Notably, these software quality issues are reportedly not safety-related, nor linked to the Ultium platform or Google built-in operating system. To date, no timeline has been released on when sales of the all-electric crossover will get back under way.

Meanwhile Lyriqs are piling up at my local Cadillac dealership.
You’re not kidding. I just checked my local Cadillac dealers inventory:
CT4 – 2
CT5 – 5
CT5 V – 1
Escalade – 2
Escalade ESV – 4
Lyriq – 48
XT4 – 1
XT5 – 8
XT6 – 10
I’m wondering if the temporary dropping of the EV tax on the Lyriq and Blazer is responsible for the build up.
No it should not be because GM is throwing the 7500 in directly until the supply chain is fixed fully.
Time for an ICE retrofit kit!
Man, if I was a dealer I would love to keep paying floorplan and insurance on one of these showroom anchors…..
I guess they can use it for demo drives, oh wait….no one wants them.
Or dealer loaners for when your vehicle is in for service. Except… a Mercedes dealer in Jax Florida loaned a customer a new MB-EQS 350 while her Benz was in the shop. Unfortunately the loaner burst into flames while sitting in her home garage, not even being charged! Destroyed the house. Hope dealers have plans for Courtesy Housing as well as Courtesy Transportation if their using EVs…
Permanent stop-sale is their only way forward at this point. A RWD/4WD Blazer based on the Colorado would have been a far better bet for Mary’s team, but nooooo… they had to embarrass the heck out of themselves.
Colorado-based Blazer with a Hybrid system added to the 2.7L would have been outstanding! Chevy would have already sold 100k of them instead of these boat anchors they now have.
We’ve needed hybrids for the past 5 years. I just ordered a 2024 Santa Fe hybrid – the HEV and PHEV models have been a huge success for hyundai-kia, and we all know Toyota. GM dropped the ball a dozen times with hybrids and has no one to blame but themselves.
No worries. I doubt GM will sell many of these anyways. Especially at that price. I’ve already read comments of several dealers saying they can’t move the few of these they have already.
to add to my Kia-Hyundai comment right above yours. The dealers i spoke to at two kia and two hyundai stores, each were pretty outspoken about the demand for HEV and PHEV and long wait times, and the EVs sitting on the lot not moving.
I took in my 16 Rav4 about a month ago to a Toyota dealer in Hackensack NJ to address a recall for the battery. When I pulled into the dealer, I noticed the entire front row of the lot full of bZ4Xs. I have never seen Toyota lots packed with any specific models. Even before the pandemic, you were lucky to get a deal on a Toyota. But if that Toyota has a battery pack not complimented with a gasoline engine? You have plenty to choose from.
I bought a Sorento Prestige hybrid back in November. The radio interface is horrid but aside from that I am delighted with the fit, finish, and performance. I hope to take it on a long road trip to the west coast some time in the next month or so.
My local Chevy dealer had nothing I wanted (I am open to ICE or hybrid), the Buick dealer had nothing I wanted. Ford? Uhh… no.
So sorry this had to happen with the Blazer EV. I hope they sort out the software problems, but it seems even when they do and market it well, the weak demand for EVs will hit it.
And that is the perfect time to buy at lower prices.
I think everyone is so used to having a free market that you are missing something. Mandates are coming. With how everyone keeps voting, mandates are coming. Along with any other govt assistance that will keep companies in business. GM just has to hold out until they do.
We’ll all be in here complaining about them and how we don’t want them. Saying we’ll drive our ICE forever and we’ll never buy an EV. Thats not going to stop them.
Gas appliances and ICE vehicles will someday be gone. All wrapped up with a nice shiny bow that Congress will play off as another infrastructure bill. But they promised us a love filled utopia, so we voted them in.
HEV and PHEV are the current way forward for the near to mid term. The battery envrio impact is a fraction of that of an EV, range is not an issue, charging is not an issue, price is barely an issue, weight is not an issue, climate (temperature) is hardly an issue, fuel efficiency is great – especially a PHEV where the majority of people can commute all week and not use gas.
As battery density and electrical systems improve so does the range and efficiency of a PHEV and HEV. A 60 mile PHEV, with 35mpg hybrid system would answer a lot of questions that full EV cant.
Love our Tesla but still not the vehicle for most people. Our best vehicle is a Honda Pilot. Hope they make a hybrid model soon. No GM EV for us…..they are still low on the EV learning curve. Blazer EV is an excellent example.
“A huge sense of urgency”?? What a joke. If this was Tesla Musk would have the team working 24/7 and sleeping at the office when necessary. Problem would be solved in a couple of weeks. I bet the GM people took off for the Christmas break plus extra vacation days. Is the GM software team in Austin, Texas – a thousand miles away from where the action is in Michigan? What could possibly go wrong?
A poor manager always has to fight fires.
Whereas Bob Lutz’s Volt just worked fine from the day it was released.
Seeing months have passed , Ms Barra doesn’t even seem to be very good at fires.
lol what
