The GM Authority Take

Cadillac XT5 sales were again in the red as the nameplate continues to move substantially less units than most of its competitors. We continue to surmise poor sales performance is due to direct rivals offering newer, more modern, and therefore more attractive vehicles when compared to the XT5. The first-generation XT5 has become dated, having not seen many updates since its launch for the 2017 model year.

Furthermore, Cadillac XT5, XT6, and Lyriq production was down during the first week of the new year due to maintenance, which will likely impact sales going forward.

About Cadillac XT5

The 2023 Cadillac XT5 soldiers on with minimal changes compared to the 2022 Cadillac XT5, receiving three new paint colors, and adding the Bose Performance 14-speaker stereo, embedded navigation and ambient lighting as standard on the Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels.

The 2024 Cadillac XT5 represents the eighth model year of the first-generation model, arriving with minimal changes and updates compared to the preceding 2023 model year, including a trio of accent packages – the new Red Accent Package, Blue Accent Package, and Bronze Accent Package.

A new study finds that the Cadillac XT5 doesn’t hold its value very well, while Cadillac ranked average in the Consumer Reports 2024 Reliability Report, though it still placed above the average dependability of U.S. automakers.

Originally, GM planned to discontinue the XT5 for the North American market after the 2024 model year, while overhauling the model for the Chinese market. However, GM Authority recently learned that GM is considering the second-generation Cadillac XT5 for North America, though no decision has been made or announced as of this writing. That said, photos of the next-gen XT5 recently leaked online, showing the next-gen model in the flesh.

Meanwhile, the Cadillac Lyriq is the luxury marque’s first-ever EV and its all-electric replacement to the aging XT5. Furthermore, the first-ever all-electric Cadillac Optiq, revealed this past November and caught in the wild in December, hails as the Cadillac’s entry-level EV offering to eventually replace the XT4, which itself received a refresh for the 2024 model year. These models precede the recently announced first-ever 2026 Cadillac Vistiq, an all-electric three-row crossover set to round out the EV portfolio, slotting in the same space occupied by the Cadillac XT6. The Cadillac Escalade IQ full-sizer will slot above the Vistiq. Additionally, a Cadillac V-Series EV is set to debut this year, likely as the Cadillac Lyriq-V.

Its’ worth noting that all of the luxury marque’s gasoline-powered crossovers struggle in their respective segments in terms of sales volume. This is in spite of GM’s mainstream subcompact crossovers seeing great success while crossover models from Chevy, GMC, and Buick all remain competitive. It remains to be seen if the luxury marque can compete better with electric models.

  1. Hard to believe GM won’t possibly be manufacturing or selling another generation XT5 in the US after 2024. I love mine and hoped to buy a new one in a few years !

    1. There will be a 2025 model year of the old XT5, which will be its final model year for sure, according to online sources.

    2. I love mine as well. Bought a 2023 xt5. This is my 3rd cadillac.
I really don’t know if will by another cadillac as not interested in EV’S. In canada not a lot of charging stations up north. In 2025 will look at other car companies as cadillac are becoming a thing of the past.
      Shame.

  3. Another dumbass decision by the communist dictators at GM ,,AMERICANS don’t want to buy American autos from communist CHINA . and not have a choice of an ice Cadillac . If this 2015 XT5 is assembled in China there will be NO Cadillac in our garage . lets talk about the 7th position in sales ,although the current design is great it is 7 years O L D .. So what did you intellects will do , design minor front and rear update with technical instrument upgrades and give it to China .. WOW you really know to screw the American buyers .. I hope in my lifetime i don’t see Cadillac pass away like Pontiac , Oldsmobile or Saturn …
