Cadillac Escalade Recalled For Incorrect Catalytic Converter Service Part

GM has issued an emissions recall for certain 2022 and 2023 Cadillac Escalade units, along with 2022 to 2023 Cadillac Escalade ESV units, that may have an incorrect catalytic converter part installed.

The problem: affected Cadillac Escalade units may have been fitted with an incorrect catalytic converter part during earlier servicing, which can potentially result in the SUV failing to meet the correct emissions standards.

The hazards: the Escalade SUV that has been equipped with the incorrect catalytic converter may no longer meet the necessary emissions standards, possibly resulting in the vehicle failing a state emission test.

The fix: dealership technicians should first verify the inclusion of a Cadillac Escalade unit in the voluntary emissions recall. Affected vehicles are marked as “Open” on their Investigate Vehicle History page, which can be accessed through the GM Global Warranty Management system.

The dealership service personnel are then instructed to install a new L87 3-way catalytic converter in the sport-utility. This will also require the installation of two exhaust system seals and is expected to take about 1 hour and 36 minutes of labor time to complete. Customers are to be reimbursed for the repair.

Affected components: catalytic converter. The converter is only known to be affected on 2022 or 2023 Cadillac Escalade SUVs that are motivated by the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

Affected vehicles:

Number of affected vehicles: it’s currently unclear how many vehicles are affected by this voluntary emissions recall. Dealerships in both the USA and Canada have been instructed to hold affected vehicles in inventory until the repair has been completed. The vehicles cannot be sold, delivered, traded to other dealerships, or used in demonstrations until they have been correctly repaired.

  1. Interesting! With all the computers etc & the “quality control” section, shouldn’t most of these mistakes get caught not just before they leave the plant, but before it actually happens?? It’s getting comical to get weekly reports of manufacturing snafu s at gm.

    1. Another thing to consider:

In late autumn of 1962, family walked in the door of our local Studebaker dealer. My brother ordered his dream car, a Lark two door sedan. Supercharged V8, AM push button radio, a heater, and a sprinkling of minor options like bigger battery. The salesman ticked these items off in boxes on an order form, my brother paid his deposit, and the car was delivered about seven weeks later. No computers either at the dealer or at the factory.

Fast-forward to today: you enter a dealer. “I want this engine.” “You have to buy a Premier”. “I want a radio upgrade” “you need to buy a $6,000 package to get the nicer radio”. “I want color so and so” “That’s a $1200 upcharge, but you have to get the so and so model to get that color, which is $8,000 more”.

With computers, parts should not be left out or wrong ones fitted, and with computers being able to put the exact component at had for a particular car as they are assembled, one should be able to get exactly what one wants on a factory order. The only reason you can’t is just plain old fashioned greed.

      1. Agree, those parts have bar codes so I believe they know they are wrong but put them on anyway to avoid stopping the assembly line. It probably cheaper to fix them later at the dealership. Otherwise how would they know how many units are effected and even know the VIN’s of the effected units?
