2024 Chevy Colorado Top-Rated Truck By Edmunds

Edmunds has picked its best vehicles for the current year in its “Top Rated 2024” list, with the 2024 Chevy Colorado as the winner in the Truck category, winning an accolade as “one of the best pickup trucks currently on sale.”

As the Edmunds report makes clear, the Colorado won its first-place position not just in the midsize truck category, but as the top-rated truck among all size classes based on its versatility and features.

The 2024 Chevy Colorado achieved its success among Top Rated 2024 vehicles thanks its “clean-sheet redesign,” which makes it an effective and comfortable everyday driver while remaining capable of handling off-road duties. Its solid payload and towing metrics also come in for praise. Overall, it is rated as an 8.1 on a scale of 1 to 10.

Some specific positives mentioned about the 2024 model-year Colorado include a high-quality ride with comfortable interior design, fast acceleration, and certain powerplant options making its towing capability and powerful performance possible. The infotainment system’s Google integration is also mentioned as a plus, as is the lineup of trim levels which provides multiple options to meet specific owner needs.

Singled out for notice among the Bow Tie truck’s trim levels, the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison is highlighted as one of the model year’s notable attractions. Described as turning “off-road capability up to 11,” the Colorado ZR2 Bison is hailed for its approach, departure, and breakover angles along with the extra ground clearance provided by its 35-inch tires and three extra inches of suspension lift.

Edmunds also noted several weak points to the Chevy Colorado. These include an entry-level powerplant that is relatively weak and noisy, and an uncomfortable rear seating row compared to front-seat comfort.

The study looked at over 500 vehicle models in all, with extensive testing used to narrow this down to 82 segment leaders and then 18 finalists. According to Edmunds editor-in-chief Alistair Weaver, “these are the cars, trucks and SUVs we’d advise our friends to buy.” The overall winner for 2024, dubbed “The Best of the Best,” was the 2024 Kia EV9.

The 2024 Chevy Colorado’s two closest competitors were non-GM trucks, including the 2024 Honda Ridgeline and the 2024 Toyota Tacoma. The Ridgeline was noted for its excellent on-road driving characteristics, but not quite matching the Chevy’s off-road chops, while the Tacoma was described as likely to “last a lifetime,” but falling somewhat short of the Colorado in hauling and towing.

Edmunds senior editor Clint Simone summarized the 2024 Chevy Colorado by remarking how “the fantastic new interior, strong engine and sleek design make it the new benchmark” for pickup trucks.

All 2024s are being held at the plant for software updates. Mine was built 1-3-2024. Still there along with all others built so far. A few thousand so far…

We put in our order 1/2/24 for our Colorado, so we were Excited that progress is being made. When we ordered from Dealership, we were told 2-4 months, so this was great news.

They think the new Tacoma is “likely to last a lifetime”? HAHAHA yeah just like all the 22-23 Tundras with bottom end failures, or the last gen Tacoma that was rated least reliable midsize truck for 3+ years in a row by Consumer Reports due to rear diff failures, howling gears, transmission issues, engine stalling, engine failure, etc.

Own the previous model- love it. Disappointed that the new model does not offer a v6 and 6′ bed. I know that there is a workaround as far as the bed, but it is still nice to be able to haul a 4×8 sheet of plywood. Also note, I’ve owned v4 turbo, not quite the same.

The last vehicle I can think of that had a “v4” would be like a Ford Taurus from the 70s….so it’s fairly safe to say you have not owned a turbo “V4”. Now an inline 4, yes most people have owned or driven those. The only disappointment I see in the current generation 2.7 on the Colorado/Canyon is the fuel economy isn’t impressive.

Maybe they could make this truck with a useful bigger bed along with the 10spd transmission. Dump the crappie 8spds. At least give us the options to upgrade. Are u listening gm.

I like what Chevy has done. Wish the Silverado had the chiseled, squared look.
An extended cab, 6′ foot bed offering would be icing on the cake but I get what they were doing.

Placed with the dealer or “placed 2000” status with GM? There’s a huge difference

When did you give the dealer your order and how many Denali units did they have ahead of you? There was only one allocation cycle in December and January. Unless you get lucky with allocation and constraints, I tell dealers to allow 4-6 months at this point. I had one dealer whose customer waited 12 months for an at4 Canyon.

I do not understand this allocation business. So, if I special order a ZR2 with specific options and accessories it means that GM might not actually accept my order?

Do I need to shop dealers to find out if their allocations are used up?

That is 100% correct. Everyone think they’ve “placed” and order when they tell the dealer to order it. When you order it, it goes into 1100 status which is preliminary status. It will literally sit here until an allocation that’s constraints match your order comes to the dealer and nobody else ahead of you has the same order. Once this occurs, your 2000 status, which is “placed”. It’s unfortunate bc the dealer takes all the heat from this process, not GM. Frankly it’s a pain the the rear

And just to add allocations don’t get used up. It just depends what trim level and what units are allocated to each dealer twice a month.

Well, I would want ZR2 options such as silver paint, bronze tow hooks, steel drive shaft, yellow seat belts, cargo tie down rings, and probably hard-folding tonneau cover. GM certainly is not going to randomly send any dealer optioned that particular way.

If I cannot have it my way, then never mind. But if I can, would I have a better chance with a small-town lower volume dealer? One that probably would get less interest in ZR2’s then nearby big city dealers?

            Thanks.

Look you’d be surprised what items get constrained. If you want the truck order a ZR2 but items you can get from parts dept (lie tie downs, tonneau cover) just get that when it comes in. Because if tie downs are on constraint (and I’ve seen it) your order won’t get picked up. Be flexible on the small things – but ZR2 is a heavily constrained trim level so that’s probably your biggest hurdle. I think they’re typically constrained to about 10% or less of production. Meaning if they make 100 Trucks, 10 or less will be ZR2

Advertise the hell out of their product and then can’t deliver. Just like the Ford Maverick. I bought the Honda Ridgeline. It’s one hell of a vehicle. Made right here in Indiana too. I’m done with GM.

A small town dealer will also have less overall units allocated. It’s a “turn and earn” system.

I now own a ’22 Colorado as I wanted a V-6 and not have to risk hauling a boat with a 4 cylinder engine, even with a turbo. Also, I wanted the Extended Cab as I use my truck and enjoy the longer bed….and have no use for two more seats.

When I replace this Colorado, I almost hate to say this, having been a GM owner for decades…but I may now look at a Ford (OH NO……) with an Extended Cab and a V-6!!

The new one can haul a 4×8 sheet of plywood. The tailgate on some models have latch to put the cable in and the 4×8 rest on it and the wheel wells.

I wish I could get a 8ft bed in my Colorado as my 84 GMC 4×4 WITH A 2.8 V6 S15 EXTENDED CAB HAD A 8 FT BED. In the winter I used it to feed cows5 bales in the bottom then 10 bales then 10 more then 8. Bales avg. 95 to 105 lbs.. I got rid of the s15 after 405 thousand miles..2 starters 1 clutch break pads and reg maintenance..
