GM has released a new recall for certain units of the 2023 GMC Canyon. The recall is related to an issue affecting the pickup’s automatic emergency braking system, which can unexpectedly trigger and result in the vehicle abruptly coming to a stop.
The problem: the issue is related to the vehicle’s front camera module software. The front camera module is designed to identify obstacles and trigger the emergency braking system to prevent the vehicle from crashing into the obstacle. However, affected units of the 2023 GMC Canyon may have an improperly programmed front camera module that could falsely identify an obstacle, causing the automatic emergency braking system to abruptly engage.
The hazards: if the automatic emergency braking system unexpectedly activates, it may increase the risk of a crash.
The fix: to fix this issue, GM is instructing dealers to install a free software update for the front camera module system software. In addition, GM has issued a stop-delivery order, on affected units of the 2023 GMC Canyon.
Affected components: front camera module system software.
Affected vehicles: vehicles affected by this recall include certain units of the 2023 GMC Canyon. This recall also affects certain units of the 2023 Chevy Colorado, as GM Authority covered previously.
Number of affected units: it’s estimated that this recall affects 9,047 units of the 2023 GMC Canyon.
Owners should: GM will issue notification letters to affected owners by April 8th, 2024 with instructions to make an appointment with their local dealer.

More problems with unnecessary nanny equipment added to vehicles. I guess I’ll be ordering a WT to avoid as much this cr@p as possible.
Auto Emergency Braking is required by the government starting in 2022. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it on your WT.
You made a true statement and you got a bunch of thumbs down. It looks like the people on this forum do not like to hear the truth. They stick to what they want to believe no matter of the evidence presented. Having said that, I am sure I will be joining you on the “thumbs down” frenzy” or even worse, my posting will be deleted. It happened before when I wasn’t going with the majority. I still have lots of fun reading the comments on this forum.
Sorta’ Kinda’ odd, don’t you think (?), that TWO of these serious software issues occur on the Canyon and Colorado ? Draining batteries repeatedly when a software update is sent over the Net is bad enough, but this little Gem of a screw-up is going to surely cause some very serious Traffic Accidents with multiple injuries or fatality(ies)somewhere…..if it hasn’t already !
As far as thumbs up or thumbs down, the owners of this board should remove the anonymity of those voting both ways. Some highly leftist boards like the one at the “Pravda on the Mississippi” ( St. Louis Post-Dispatch ) I.D. the thumbs up voters but refuse to do so on the cowards who regularly, automatically vote down.
Actually, and not according to your misinformation hotline, Izzy is misinformed. And you supported him as another person who is underinformed. So maybe that’s why he got the Thumbs down from those folks who know better and check facts first ? Ya’ think ?
Automatic Emergency Braking has not, in fact, become a requirement yet according to NHTSA. It’s going to be a few years before any rule takes effect that mandates AEB.

Thank you for your research. And it would still be a good idea that if you have to follow a 2023 Colorado or Canyon to get into a different lane or stay far behind it because you never know when the defective software in the ECM is going to unexpectedly slam the brakes on. This and the battery draining update is such a shame for such a good-looking Truck. We were seriously considering trading our low-mileage 2010 Sierra Denali in for one after our neighbor bought a 2024 Sierra with the Turbo 4-banger and loves it but, now, NO WAY with both of these serious issues.
The Hits Just Keep on Coming!
Keep up the good work, Mary.
Btw, on my ’24 Terrain you can turn it off.
I did .
You can turn it off in any model year, but the hardware and feature has to be present per Uncle Sam.
Wrong again ! Not yet !
Funny how no matter what happens it’s Mary’s fault. Not the people in purchasing who sign contracts with suppliers who can’t keep up there end of the deal or supply good quality parts.
Absolutely true.
Never heard of President Harry S. Truman’s famous motto ? “THE BUCK STOPS HERE” ! ( at the top ) now who is at the TOP ?
She is ultimately responsible, she should clean house due to all of the supplier problems. There’s no excuse to procure junk .
Wow, does the 2023 Colorado have the same issue. Think I read that here. What a coincidence from lower case gm quality.
Toyota New Recall: Over 683,000 Vehicles Affected In A Week. Toyota recalls 280,663 vehicles over unexpected vehicle movement. Seems it’s not just the big 3 having QC issues. The entire automotive industry is suffering from quality control!
WARNING to other drivers. DO NOT follow a 2023 GMC Canyon or Chevrolet Colorado and expect normal driving behavior. The truck might suddenly come to a screeching in the middle of the road ( Maybe a Rush Hour congested Interstate in a large City ?! ) for no reason at all !
While this is not good, a video was just released from TFL truck and their brand new 2024 Tacoma had a loud pop during off-road testing in the snow and they lost front wheel drive. The new 2023 Colorado helped them get out of the snow. Seems like even the “reliable” Tacoma might be having issues.
Tacomas have been having issues since the 3rd gen to varying degrees. Most people who are brainwashed by the name will not admit that there are problems with their trucks.
These Colorados and Canyons are a service visit just waiting to happen. what garbage.
Didn’t effect my 2023 Canyon. It’s nice walking between the rain drops
