2023 Cadillac Lyriq Will Get Software Update In March

One of the many benefits of modern technology in today’s new vehicles is the ability to improve upon existing functionalities without having to physically modify anything. With that in mind, the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq is set to receive such an update in March 2024.

According to a report from Automotive News, General Motors will roll out a software update for the luxury marque’s all-electric crossover to provide improvements to its universal remote and glove box controls. More specifically, the universal remote and glove box controls will be more convenient, while the myCadillac mobile app remote commands will be faster.

“Just like many of our technologies today receive regular updates with new features and improvements, the Cadillac Lyriq will too,” Cadillac Vice President John Roth was quoted as stating. “This means Lyriq owners will have the most up-to-date technology in their car, including the latest infotainment offerings, performance enhancements, and more.”

It’s worth noting that this software update will not be distributed through an over-the-air (OTA) update, rather owners will need to bring their Lyriq units to the dealership. As such, The General will reach out to owners when it’s time to schedule their appointment. Notably, the process may take a few hours.

As a reminder, the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq is available with rear-wheel and all-wheel drivetrains. The Lyriq RWD is equipped with a single motor mounted on the rear axle, with output rated at 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the Lyriq AWD features a pair of electric motors – one per axle – and develops a maximum of 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. Both models utilize GM Ultium battery and GM Ultium Drive motors technologies.

In regard to structure, the Lyriq rides on the GM BEV3 platform, while production takes place at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.

  1. You’ll certainly need to make an appointment for this. Atleast at my local Caddy dealership. They have 48 of these sitting on the lots to do the software update on.

  2. I wonder why the update can’t be done OTA?

    1. OTA’s have been paused because GM sucks at doing them.

  3. Meanwhile my local Cadillac dealership shows LYRIQs piling up at the dealership just like Ford’s Mach-E. Both in the low to mid 40s count.

    1. Of course, part of the problem is the pricing for the Lyriq doesn’t compare as favorably to other EV brands, and I’ve also heard very bad things about the back seat comfort for long drives. It is also really hard to buy an EV this expensive with a CCS port built in when everyone is moving to NACS and supercharger access. I am hoping a refresh addresses this.

Dealers also don’t want to sell them and they don’t learn how. I went to a dealer to buy an EV and they tried to talk me out of it. I had already owned two. Dealers are a huge part of the problem. GM also doesn’t advertise on the benefits on an EV because they don’t want to undercut their gas sales because they can’t build enough EVs to handle real popularity. Killing the Bolt early was a dumb move, the Bolt always moved huge numbers (for a GM EV) despite lacking real fast charging. Not bringing back the Bolt hatchback on Ultium is another head scratcher. I never see anyone driving the Bolt EUV but I see dozens of Bolt EV hatchbacks. It is like GM wants to sabotage itself.

      1. You don’t have to be in the back seat of the Lyric for more than a few seconds to realize just how uncomfortable they are. Went to see the Lyriq at my local Cadillac dealer they had a loaded luxury 3 AWD and Nappa leather MSRP of $80,905. I was ready to start the back and forth on price until I sat in the back seat and found it unusable for adults because of the child seat anchors and the hard plastic that covers them. I own 3 GM vehicles, all have the anchors for child seats, none of them jam into your back. The salesperson said they had received the same complaints from other potential buyers. I find it unbelievable that this design flaw made it to the production vehicles. From all the delays with production dates, battery recalls, stop sales, etc, GM seems to be trying awful hard to drive customers away.

  4. They advertise this locally where I live, but not in English.
Are Americans allowed to buy these cars ? The ads are in a foreign language, are these only for foreigners ?

    1. I only see black people in most commercials on TV. Does that mean the products are only for black people?

  5. It is 2024 and GM can’t update the universal remote / glovebox button locations without a dealer visits? Whichever executive manages the GM software team needs to be fired. Other manufacturers can update motor firmware OTA. What a joke. I want to root for GM, I really do, but sometimes it is so hard.

  6. The Biggest Joke of the Moment ?
” AI May Takeover The World ! ”
    …. when GM can’t get a $60,000 vehicle from Pt.A to Pt.B because of “Software Issues” .
    Remember GIGO ? …garbage in-garbage out .
    It’s still here … on STEROIDS !!!

  7. Why complain. You’ll get a cup of coffee and maybe a donut during your dealer visit.

  8. So much for an OTA update on the “all new Ulitum” platform. Pathetic.

  9. There is always that BUT……no OTA updates. As I said, GM probably has shoddy off shore developers creating this mess with local PMs that simply crunch numbers with no real technical team lead that is catching all this mess before its being deployed. Fire the whole IT team! Better yet do what a fmaous ma bell once did to their Parsipanny office area, put a bunch of these comments hung on the aisle walls that the IT and Software guys walk through to let them know customers are NOT happy and sales are being lost.

  10. At this point, if my gm vehicle software is working correctly, I’m not sure I’d opt for an update be it OTA or at the dealer. I don’t get the impression their vehicle systems software group has their act together.

  11. Evidently none of you have owned a Tesla. Wonder how you’d feel after a battery replacement, two motor replacements, infotainment replacement, and god knows how many quality fixes.

    1. This happened to you? That sucks. However, I own a Model Y (2020), and I have friends / family that own 4 additional Teslas, 2 Model 3s, 1 Model Y, and 1 Model X. The Model X has required a lot of work, but the Model 3s and Model Ys including my own have not needed any work, aside from paint correction on my own personal Model Y.
