Chevy’s full-size SUVs, the Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban, are staples of the Bow Tie brand’s utility vehicle lineup, with the Tahoe nameplate currently in its fifth generation, and the Suburban nameplate currently in its twelfth generation, making the latter the longest-running vehicular nameplate in history. Both models offer customers a range of trim levels catering to a variety of different tastes, including off-roaders, performance-flavored street trucks, and luxury rides. Now, we want to know – what’s the best Chevy Tahoe and Suburban trim level?
For starters, it bears mentioning that there is essentially no difference between the current Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban, other than a longer wheelbase and overall length for the Suburban, which provides additional cargo room and third-row passenger room. Beyond that, the two models are pretty much identical, offering the same features, equipment, and trim levels.
Speaking of trims, customers have a total of six to choose from, starting with the base-model LS, which equips an eight-inch color touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and HD Rear Vision Camera. The LT is next, adding in a 10.2-inch screen and Bose nine-speaker audio, as well as wireless device charging.
The Z71 is offered as the off-roader of the lineup, and equips a front skid plate, red recovery hooks, and 20-inch wheels, while the RST is the sportier trim, running 22-inch wheels (we’re including the Tahoe RST Performance Edition as part of the RST trim level for this poll). The Premier is the penultimate trim and is equipped with Magnetic Ride Control suspension, while the High Country sits at the top of the lineup with all the bells and whistles.
As a reminder, the refreshed 2025 Chevy Tahoe and refreshed 2025 Chevy Suburban offer three engine options, including the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine. The new-for-2025 LZ0 diesel engine will be available on Z71 trim levels, whereas prior to the 2025 model year, the Z71 trims did not offer diesel power. The GM T1 platform provides the bones, while production takes place at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.
So then, which Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban trim level do you think is the best? There are certainly quite a things to consider, from price, to technology, to styling, to performance, so let us know by voting the poll below and be sure to subscribe to GM Authority for more Chevy Tahoe news, Chevy Suburban news, Chevy news, GM business news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

LS.
no annoying nanny gadgets, nice cloth seats, lighter so faster, and no sunroof so your head has space to be a head.
base LT is also acceptable.
don’t forget front bench option for the 9 person configuration on the LS.
LS…….the cloth seats are great and my wife likes the lack of tech…….she has had 3 since 2005 and disliked the leather seats in her 09 LT so went back to LS for her 2017………looking at a new one and it will be an LS.
RST Suburban with the Duramax. Love mine.
I previously had a Sierra Denali with all the bells and whistles.
Will hopefully have the RST for the long hall
I like my 22 Premier because of all the chrome trim along with the stock wheels. I did not want larger rims because I like more rubber between the road and rims to avoid damage. I have the 5.3 so I can run regular gas I also have the cat back exhaust. So I get more power and a nice sound. It is plenty fast no need for the 6.2 premium gas engine I have that in my 22 Corvette.
I forgot to add I did a 2024 Tahoe build, and price on my same 22 Tahoe options the price is up $6,000. On my 22 C8 the 2024 exact car is up $9,000. so that’s $15,000 for both in just 2 years.
I like all the tech I can get so the High Country will be parked in my garage. My 2011 Tahoe LTZ has been a great truck once all the bugs are fixed so me being a GM tech for 30 plus years helped in the aspect. The cost is another issue so I’ll be looking for a 4-5 year older one, either a Tahoe or Yukon.
Prices are too high. I believe GM raised prices on ICE vehicles so the EV’s wouldn’t look so expensive.
GM has manufacturing issues. Look at all the service issue bulletins. Lost quality and stupid things like sealants, cab roofs separating, transmissions etc.
No surprise the Z71 is the most popular. GM apparently believes the RST is an upgrade to the Z71, but I don’t. In 2023 when I was shopping, I was told that the RST had “everything the Z71 had and more”. The RST did not compare to my 2018 Silverado LTZ Z71 for safety, convenience and comfort. Not saying it was not a nice car, but I was spoiled by the Silverado. After six months, I ordered a Tahoe Z71, when it finally came in 2 weeks ago I knew I did the right thing before I was all the way home from the dealer. It was perfect!
Z71 received my vote.
The RST is a good package, especially with the sport monochrome look, but I am not a fan of the black only interior.
As usual, GM makes a mockery of customer choice on interior colors. I can get a “tan” interior on a Z71 but the seats are lower quality, non-perforated leather.
Z71 + the dark brown interior of the High Country would be a great combination.
I have a 2022 Suburban Premier with 22″ wheels. It has all the bells and whistles that I need. The price on the Premier was high enough.
@Jay I am not sticking up for GM but they just went through union contracts which raises workers pay which raises the price of ALL VEHICLES…don’t worry I am sure Mary Bara got a raise to oh let’s not forget making the share holders happy. I work a union job and this is how it goes down UPS where I work raised shipping rates almost immediately after our union contract passed in 2023.
Z71. That’s what I have, it has aggressive looks, off-road capability and it’s a lot smoother on daily drive roads than I expected. LT option style interior loadout for just under 70 grand. Great bang for the buck.
I’m occasionally tempted by the Z71’s extra capability, but ultimately the LS is the best. It has everything that really matters most of the time. It’s plenty comfortable, good looking, convenient. And go Suburban if you have the choice, with the 5.3, because it makes the most sense. That would pretty much be my perfect vehicle.
High Country. An Escalade with a Chevy Body!
I have the 2022 Z71 & love it. I singled out the Z71 due to the fact that it came standard with an external oil cooler & extra capacity coolant system.
I plan on pulling a medium size RV and don’t want to see any temp needles on the dash climbing while me & the wife’s in the dreaded Tenn, Mountains !!!
One thing I don’t understand when it comes to trim packages is that if you sit down with the dealer and order your vehicle, you can add or delete items cause i’ve seen Z71’s come with either the 5.3L or 6.2L Eng, 2nd row bench or bucket, with or without sun roofs, the option to have or not have steering wheel & seat heat option, and the option to be able to lay both 2nd & 3rd row seats down from the cargo compartment area or not & different rim size options.
So the trim package kind of confuses me a bit …
have a z71 Tahoe, all votes for it, the + is one can go for the offroad capability + have some upgrades like the magnetic suspension and air lift suspension + I got the luxury multimedia package added with those rear seat screens and much more. It is xtremly smooth on normal roads and daily commute. I keep getting compliments on the car when parked in some parking lots :).
The only one thing I feel GM should had done is adding adaptive cruise control, lack of ACC is a huge gap for the price we pay. Not sure if 2025 will have it or not . If it does z71 is a complete package
I have the 2001 Tahoe LT and love the technology. 21st century. Love a truck that tells me it’s problems of which it has very few. Love the leather power seats, the theft deterrence, automatic lights, OBD II outlet, AFM, Just a great truck!!
