After becoming ineligible for EV purchase tax credits under revised U.S. Treasury rules, GM announced that newly produced Chevy Blazer EV and Cadillac Lyriq crossover buyers will be able to take advantage of the full $7,500 in U.S. tax credits.
GM CEO Mary Barra revealed the news during the fourth quarter (Q4) 2023 GM earnings presentation and provided additional details on how many Chevy Blazer EV and Cadillac Lyriq units were produced without batteries completely sourced and built in North America.
The Clean Vehicle Credit will be available to purchasers of those Chevy Blazer EV or Cadillac Lyriq crossovers that are powered by North American batteries when the vehicles are leased or bought at the dealership. The U.S. Treasury has said that dealers will receive reimbursement within 72 hours for the $7,500 electric vehicle tax credit. This system became active on January 1st, 2024 and allows buyers to use the credit immediately rather than waiting until they follow a tax return next year.
Regarding Chevy Blazer EV and Cadillac Lyriq crossovers already built, with some battery materials sourced outside North America and therefore ineligible for the federal tax credit, Mary Barra stated “we work closely with our dealers to ensure consistent pricing for our customers which we estimate will impact no more than about 25,000 vehicles.”
Indeed, buyers of tax credit-ineligible EVs from The General’s brands will not be forced to pay full price, however. GM is offering a $7,500 rebate for EV purchases that temporarily lost the U.S. tax credit under the new rules. The 25,000 Chevy Blazer EV and Cadillac Lyriq units manufactured with battery components ineligible under the U.S. Treasury’s revised rules can still get a discount as an incentive to go electric.
This rebate, known as the GM Ultium Promise Program, is available through  June 3rd for some units of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq as well as the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV and 2024 Cadillac Lyriq. Buyers receive immediate bonus cash, while the rebate can be combined with many other available incentives, though it is only available with a purchase and not a lease.
Before the latest announcement, the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV were the only GM EVs confirmed to still qualify for the Clean Vehicle Credit at the start of 2024.

I think they made a mistake calling it a Blazer. People that want a Blazer don’t want to tell people they have an EV. And people that want an EV don’t want to tell people they have a Blazer.
The Blazer EV styling is a knockout though. Very well executed design.
Also – why the wide disparity in reviews on these cars? The reviewers mostly seem to love them, then Consumer Reports reviews it in a way that you’d think the Blazer killed their puppy.
Not that it matters. It’s a very slow seller at least for now.
I thought the blazer was still in stop sale for software updates. The Lyriq at my dealership is starting to pile up. Last I checked they had 31 in stock. Everything else was more in the range of 10-15 in stock, so too many Lyriq’s. I like the styling on both. The Blazer added the HUD, which for me is a must have. Could care less about super cruise, I would not pay to renew the subscription for sure. Both are missing a must have for me, V2H. If I’m dropping 60+ on a EV, I want it to power my furnace (gas so only need around 600W) in a blackout. So at least for me, both are a miss. I’m still bewildered by the lack of V2H. Its not like a 1KW inverter costs anymore than the 150W one they slap into the Lyriq. I’ve got a 2KW inverter generator that was only 300, and that includes a 80cc ICE along with the inverter. I’d guess a 1KW inverter is 50 bucks these days.
Most Lyriqs at dealerships are Tech or Lux/Sport 1 version that no Cadillac buyer wants. The higher trim level Lyriqs 2/3 don’t sit on the lots for long. Technically any EV would be capable of V2H with the right equipment in the house and necessary software changes. No additional hardware in the vehicle is necessary.
And GM I thought said all would come with the feature which means it should only need to be activated?
Agree with you that HUD is a must have. What knucklehead at GM thought it was a good idea to leave that off of Cadillac’s first luxury EV. Hell, every Cadillac should have that as standard equipment. Maybe by the 25 model year they will have it along with the NACS for charging.
M12, I agree with your entire comment!
Member12 instead of Blazer what about Chevy Venture EV? GM can easily bring that name back.
Don’t worry about EV cars GM just announced it is going to start build hybrid cars again….it’s about time they should have never discontinued the Volt!
MB said we can do it if we want to. Na Na Na Na Na Na
Consumer reports ripped the car to shreds. Hybrids are useless garbage. Only thing thats a useful hybrid is the Ford Maverick.
There is still astop sale as the techs from GM continue to work on a software fix for many models that were sold and many that are in transit.
Heck my 2 Chevy dealers have had theirs in transit since Sept!
What about their problems and the stop sale lol?
