The new Corvette Z06 GT3.R was plagued with a host of mechanical issues during its competition debut at the Rolex 24 at Daytona over the weekend. The No. 3 Oshkosh / Mobil 1 car finished fifth in the GTD Pro class, while the No. 4 car finished eighth in the GTD Pro class. In the GTD class, the AWA No.13 Corvette Z06 and No. 17 Corvette Z06 both retired in the last quarter of the endurance race.
Despite missing out on a podium, the Corvette Z06 GT3.R showed promise, with the Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports No. 3 and No. 4 cars leading a combined 118 laps of the 773-lap race in the GTD Pro class. However, both Pratt Miller Corvettes experienced mechanical issues during the event, with the No. 3 car cracking its oil tank and the No. 4 car requiring a replacement power steering pump. Meanwhile, in GTD, the AWA No. 13 Corvette Z06 retired with power steering failure, while the AWA No. 17 Corvette Z06 retired with an electrical issue.
Taking the win in the GTD Pro class was the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 296 GT3 with 733 laps completed, with an average speed recorded at 121.120 mph. The No. 77 AO Racing Porsche 911 GT3.R was second in class with 732 laps completed, while the No. 1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 was third in class with 730 laps completed.
The focus for the Corvette Racing program now shifts to the FIA WEC race in Qatar and the IMSA Mobile 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. The Qatar 1812 Kilometers WEC season opener is set to take place March 2nd, with TP Sport fielding two Corvette GT3 race cars for the full season. Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports and AWA will compete at Sebring March 16th.
