Launching for the 2024 model year, the GMC Hummer EV SUV takes a majority of the Hummer EV Pickup‘s capabilities and bundles them into an SUV form factor for a distinctive all-electric super-SUV experience. Today, we’re taking a closer look at 2024 Hummer EV SUV towing ratings in the following GM Authority breakdown.
Before driving in, here’s a review of the available powertrain configurations. Ultium battery and Ultium Drive motor technologies work together to power all four wheels. More specifically, a 20-module battery pack is standard across the lineup, while buyers have the option of either a two- or three-motor setup depending on the trim level selected. Output figures range from 570 horsepower in the 2X trim level to 830 horsepower in the 3X and Edition 1 variants.
With that settled, here’s the breakdown on 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV towing capacities:
2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV Towing Capacities
Model | Battery | Drivetrain | Ultium Drive Two-Motor XRJ | Ultium Drive Three-Motor XRL |
---|---|---|---|---|
Max Trailer Weight (lbs / kg) | Max Trailer Weight (lbs / kg) | |||
2 | 20-module | 4WD | 10,000 / 4,536 | - |
2X | 20-module | 4WD | 10,000 / 4,536 | - |
2X with Z6X Extreme Off-Road Package | 20-module | 4WD | 7,500 / 3,402 | - |
3X | 20-module | 4WD | - | 7,500 / 3,402 |
3X with Z6X Extreme Off-Road Package | 20-module | 4WD | - | 7,500 / 3,402 |
Edition 1 | 20-module | 4WD | - | 7,500 / 3,402 |
As demonstrated above, the maximum a 2024 Hummer EV SUV is rated to pull is 10,000 pounds in the 20-module battery, two-motor configuration. Meanwhile, models equipped with the Extreme Off-Road Package (RPO code Z6X) – which features all-terrain items like skid plates and locking differentials – take a significant blow to towing figures, rated at 7,500 pounds.
It’s worth noting that the owner’s manual of the Hummer EV SUV makes special mention of the One-Pedal Driving feature. In fact, the manual points out that while the feature may be useful when pulling a trailer, the brake pedal may sometime be required to slow down and hold the all-electric supertruck with large loads or steep hills. In addition, trailer brakes are only activated with the brake pedal, but trailer brake lights will be functional during substantial deceleration or when the EV is stopped. It’s recommended to turn off One-Pedal Driving when roads are less than ideal.
As a reminder, the GMC Hummer EV SUV rides on the wide-body variant of the GM BT1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.

Ranges are missing. I would like to know the range whilst towing a 10,000 pound load in the mountains, a common occurrence here in western Montana.

See “ICE”, then divide by 3.
If they do, it won’t be very far before frantically searching for a re-charge location that can be accessed without completely disconnecting the trailer to get close enough to the charger’s cord. But you’re not supposed to think that far ahead, just trumpet the capacities. The usual, paid, EV fan-boys will now commence their excuses and stupid comments.
BillJ598,
Just one example here in Western Montana: Heading west on I 90 from Mizzerula, the next charging station is located on Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, 165 miles distant, of which 150 miles is steep mountain terrain. (C d’A is 33 miles east of Spokane, Washington.) My guess is that pulling a goose-neck trailer loaded with two or three horses, hay and tack, would easily weigh 9,000 to 10,000 pounds. Guess what you wouldn’t make it, not by a long shot. So, in that case, part of that 10k pounds better be a 5k watt generator. . . and, of course you’d better not be in a hurry as you’ll be stopping alot! Oh, and, yeah, there’d better be a grazing area adjacent to the charging station cuz yer gonna be unloading those horses whilst charging!
Let the flaming begin!

Would think info on how to tow a Hummer EV would be way more useful…
