GM’s Ultium Cells Lansing Plant Looking To Hire

The final day of January will see GM’s Ultium Cells plant in Lansing, Michigan host a Talent Showcase event at the Lansing Community College West Campus to give job seekers a chance to meet the Ultium Cells team, learn about the facility, and speak with recruiters.

The job fair is also Ultium Cells Lansing’s introduction to the local community, with registration to attend already open online and the event set for 3 PM to 6 PM on Wednesday, January 31st, 2024.

Managers and professionals from Ultium Cells Lansing will be present, and information on various career opportunities will be made available to attendees. Capital Area Mission Works!, a government agency that collaborates with businesses to facilitate staffing and recruiting, is helping GM organize the job fair.

The director of the Lansing plant, Grace Griffin, said “our focus for this event is to share what a career at Ultium Cells offers to members of the Lansing community.” She added that the operation, which is a joint venture between The General and LG Energy Solution, is “dedicated to creating a sustainable, all-electric transportation future.”

The Lansing plant is currently under construction, but limited production of Ultium batteries is slated to begin in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2024. The plant will be completed and begin operating at full capacity by December 31st, 2025. At that time, it will be staffed by approximately 1,700 employees. The facility will cover 2.8 million square feet and be capable of building 41 GWh of EV batteries per year.

Lansing is the third EV battery production facility constructed by GM in North America. LG Energy partnered with GM to build the Lordstown, Ohio and Spring Hill, Tennessee facilities as well, but shied away from investing in a fourth plant in Indiana.

The Ultium Cells Lansing plant will be able to easily supply the GM Lansing Grand River, Lansing Delta Township and GM Factory Zero plants with EV batteries while keeping transport distances and costs to a minimum. These facilities produce or will produce several of The General’s electric vehicle models, including the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, GMC Hummer EV SUV, GMC Sierra EV, and Chevy Silverado EV.

  5. While a exc idea, however has a few current draw backs..Calif once said they would require to build 86,000 charges per yr,now $ 38billion in the red this yr,that won’t be happing …Tesla new car lots appear full as buyers are still Leary of all the cons.

Until electric cars can run 500 miles, and charging station are as plentiful as gas station, American public won’t be moving towards electric cars anytime soon…just a honest appraisal..
