General Motors’ second joint venture in the Asian country officially announced the all-new Baojun Yep Plus as the next member of the brand’s family of all-electric vehicles exclusive to the Chinese market. As such, the automaker has revealed the official images of the new extended version of the Yep EV small off-road utility vehicle that began the transformation of Baojun’s image and market strategy.
Notably, the all-new Baojun Yep Plus introduces a major styling evolution over the original model and becomes the second production-ready variant that officially turns the Yep EV nameplate into a family of zero-emission utility vehicles. The new Yep Plus complements the offer with a more-spacious five-door body capable of appealing to a greater number of customers.
As the leaked images showed, the all-new Baojun Yep Plus is much more than a generic elongated variant of the Yep EV, as it introduces notable changes and new styling cues that evolve the brand’s design language. In fact, SGMW revealed that the Yep Plus is built on a new platform and adopts an exclusive body that only shares the front grille module and headlights with the current three-door model.
All the side panels, the glass area, the roof and the rear fascia of the new Baojun Yep Plus are specific to the model, all contributing to a more distinguished appearance. The Yep EV’s characteristic square-box design evolves with muscular shapes and straight lines that reinforce its image. In addition, it adds a curious body-color floating panel behind the C pillar, while the vehicle’s greenhouse is reminiscent of that of the Land Rover Defender 110.
The all-new Baojun Yep Plus is ready to begin mass production and will launch during the first quarter of the year in China, the only country where Baojun brand products are sold. The Yep Plus is powered by a single rear-mounted motor with a maximum output of 75 kW or 100 horsepower, coupled with a battery pack with all-electric range of up to 401 km based on the CLTC cycle.
