GMC Sierra, Canyon Recalled For 2.7L Engine Fuel Injector Issue

Certain units of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 and 2023 GMC Canyon pickup trucks are included in a newly issued voluntary emissions recall from GM, related to fuel injectors that may supply the incorrect fuel flow rate to remain within the expected emissions parameters for the engines of these vehicles.

A stop-delivery order is also included for all affected 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 and GMC Canyon trucks equipped with turbo 2.7L engines currently in dealer inventory until the fuel injectors are correctly replaced with new components, a restriction applying in both Canada and the U.S..

The problem: the engine fuel injectors in affected GMC Sierra and Canyon pickups have different than normal fuel flow rate characteristics compared to the required standards.

The hazards: during certain unspecified types of driving, the fuel injectors may not supply the fuel flow rate needed to optimize engine operation for emissions in affected Sierra and Canyon units.

The fix: new engine fuel injectors with matched flow rate characteristics producing optimized engine function and emissions are now available from GM. Dealers are instructed to replace the incorrectly adjusted injectors with the new injectors, a process requiring approximately 4.3 hours of labor. The fuel injectors come as a set of 4 along with gaskets, seals, and fuel feed pipes.

Dealerships are instructed to not order the new fuel injectors as shelf stock, but only when actual replacement on a recalled vehicle is required. Limited numbers of these component sets are available and only a few trucks are affected. Dealers should use the GM Global Warranty Management system to check if an individual vehicle is included in the recall, indicated by the “Open” notation on its Investigate Vehicle History screen.

Affected components: Engine fuel injectors and associated gaskets, seals, and fuel feed pipes. All affected GMC pickups are equipped with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline TurboMax engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.

Number of affected vehicles: approximately 272 vehicles are affected by this voluntary emissions recall for all four pickup models according to GM’s current estimates.

  3. How about a recall on the multiple issues that cost owners thousands of dollars , such as the transmission on your Acadia

  4. Typical GM, manufacture the stuff without throughly testing it. After two colorado’s I had it. Last one had a leaking head gasket at 57k, and I really baby my vehicles. I now have a Nissan Frontier way better.

  5. hmm….272 out of how may in production; 75,000 units or more. At the moment less than 1/2 of 1 percent. Sounds like a quality check hick-up with material vendors, possible robotic setup procedure (happens), jigs (set up and wear), and motor assemblers missed …if the number grows to say 5,000 or 10,000 then yes there is an issue. Curious as to where the motors were assembled and where the parts were manufactured.
