Utilities continue to dominate the U.S. auto market as the most-popular segment by a considerable margin, with crossovers and SUVs making up the majority of sales for several decades now. The popularity of utility models is driving huge competition across the auto industry, with every major automaker laser-focused on filling every possible niche of the segment in a bid to get a slice of the action. Looking ahead, General Motors looks well situated to perform thanks to a strong Chevy SUV and Chevy CUV portfolio, largely down to this one distinctive factor.
At present, every nameplate in the Chevy CUV and Chevy SUV portfolio is either all-new or significantly refreshed in the last two years:
- Chevy Trax: 2024 model year overhaul (all-new)
- Chevy Trailblazer: 2024 model year update (refresh)
- Chevy Equinox: 2025 model year overhaul (all-new)
- Chevy Blazer: 2023 model year update (refresh)
- Chevy Traverse: 2024 model year overhaul (all-new)
- Chevy Tahoe: 2025 model year update (refresh)
- Chevy Suburban: 2025 model year update (refresh)
With this lineup of all-new and significantly refreshed Chevy SUV and Chevy CUV models, the Bow Tie brand is perfectly positioned for the next few years to sell more vehicles, gain market share, and increase profits.
Indeed, Chevy’s utility models are already on an upswing. Looking over the numbers, Chevy SUV and Chevy CUV models accounted for 620,475 units sold during the 2022 calendar year, a 2.88-percent decline compared to the 638,893 units sold during the 2021 calendar year. During that time period, nearly every model in the lineup showed a year-over-year sales decline:

Now I know this is about utility vehicles but what about the Malibu it keeps soldering on with no refresh or all new model in sight. GM and Chevy could compete with the Camry and Accord if they would update or make an all new Malibu with decent power and looks, but Mary won’t allow that the new Malibu will probably be some gimmicky over priced EV that won’t sell but what do I know, oh and please don’t rename it Camaro with four doors.
Now there’s an idea – come out with the All New 2025 Camaro Kumquat, to replace the Malibu..
Would make sense.. Look at all the either great selling or potentially great selling cars they’ve discontinued.
The models still in production mostly have trouble being produced, or have Stop Sales against them, or have chronically dead 12 volt batteries. The trucks have structural troubles with the roofs anyway.
Hey. What do you expect for $80,000 ?
Hey Mick1 is back another grumpy old man lol 😆! Your wrong the Malibu as a GM has one of its best years last year and the year before, no it’s doesn’t have a high HP engine, it doesn’t have fake vents and wings all over the body like the Camry V6, it’s interior is still nice but it could use a major overhaul, the exterior is pretty plain…but all in all if it wasn’t selling GM would have gave it the ax years ago . Like I said ALL NEW GM should design and build an ALLL NEW MALIBU…Learn to read or get 🤓 glasses! I am glad all the BOOMER chrome is gone…thank God!
Malibu hasn’t competed for 30 years. Get a grip.
