About Chevrolet Bolt EV

The 2023 Chevy Bolt EV receives minor changes over the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV.

November a year ago, the Chevy Bolt EV received the 2023 U.S. ALG Residual Value Award along with two more models from GM, namely the 2023 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD and 2023 GMC Hummer EV Pickup.

However, this past March, the Chevy Bolt EV and Chevy Bolt EUV ranked significantly below the segment average in the J.D. Power 2023 U.S. EV Experience Ownership Study. Additionally, Chevy took last place in the J.D. Power 2023 U.S. Electric Vehicle Experience Home Charging Study, which measures customer satisfaction with permanently mounted Level 2 home electric vehicle charging stations.

Value-wise, though, in December 2022, we reported that the 2023 Chevy Bolt EV is a steal with the full EV tax credit of $7,500. That may be in spite of a $900 price increase in January on the 2023 Bolt EV.

Furthermore, this past April, the Chevy Bolt EV was recognized as a 2023 AAA Car Guide winner by the Automobile Association of America in its small vehicle category.

Last May, Kelley Blue Book reported that the 2023 Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV are the least expensive EVs to own over the span of five years in their respective category.

Notably, the 2023 Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV are poised to exit the market with outstanding value compared to the all-electric competition.

Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV production is officially over. Consequently, the online configurator tool is no longer live for the 2023 Bolt EV, and Chevy now directs buyers to search inventory for any remaining available models.

The Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV served as GM’s entry-level all-electric vehicles, offering zero local emissions and surprising practicality, all at an affordable price point. As a result, GM CEO Mary Barra confirmed during a Q2 2023 earnings report presentation that a next-generation Chevy Bolt is on the way after all. The automaker plans on “updating the vehicle with Ultium and Ultifi technologies,” Barra said during the earnings call, though the next-gen Chevy Bolt won’t be a clean-sheet redesign.

It will, however, incorporate advance technology, using, for example, LFP battery cells, or lithium iron phosphate, instead of the nickel-cobalt-manganese-aluminum (NCMA) chemistry currently utilized by GM’s Ultium battery cells. The new LFP batteries will help the automaker save billions of dollars in capital and engineering expenses.

In an update, Barra recently confirmed that the next-gen Chevy Bolt EV will arrive in 2025. She said that positive customer feedback about the Chevy Bolt EV “has been really great this year,” noting that it was popular demand that “informed the decision that we’ll have that back again in ’25,” according to Automotive News.

During a presentation delivered during GM’s Q3 2023 earnings presentation, she also noted that the next-gen Chevy Bolt EV will be based on the current Bolt EUV, adding, “by leveraging the best attributes of today’s Bolt EUV, as well as Ultium, our latest software, and NACS [North American Charging Standard], we will deliver an even better driving, charging, and ownership experience with the vehicle we know customers love.”

The next-gen Chevy Bolt could end up being built at the GM Fairfax plant in Kansas following a round of fresh investments.

  1. My brand new 2023 bolt ev must have had an old window sticker. I don’t think I was charged an extra $900.

  2. You would think the leasing offer is inexpensive, but they are Bolt EVs from model year 2019 – 2023, so they are old cars that have to be leased too expensively! Used Bolt EVs can be purchased from $20,000!

Leasing is too expensive – explanation from Herman!
    The leasing rates for 1 year – $299 x 12 = $3588
    The leasing payments for 3 years – $897 x 3 = $10764
Deposit payable immediately upon conclusion of contract – $5139.
In total you pay $15,903 for 3 years of leasing.
So in 3 years you pay 50% of the Bolt EV purchase price, but the car still belongs to Chevrolet and not you!!!

What else has to be paid?
Service work of $500 per year is added – $1500!
Vehicle tax and insurance will also be expensive!

Limitation of the driving distance by specifying a low 30,000 miles in 3 years!

    Conclusion!
With a purchase price of a new Bolt EV of $30,000 (state subsidies), leasing is too expensive because in 3 years over $15,000 will be wasted pointlessly without ever owning the Bolt EV!!!

What will or would I do?
Buy the Bolt EV with cash immediately because I am the owner and have no limit on the driving distance!!

  3. I have bought a 2023 Bolt EV on 15th Jan 2024. Bolt was manufactured in December, probably of the last lot of Bolts GM made. Its a decent city car. Although range fluctuates a lot during winter (per online bolt forums) it should hold up well during warmer days. Need to see how it goes.

    Price breakdown for me.

I have paid very competitive price, out the door $21400.00 in NC. $7500 discount at point of sale was a great incentive by federal. Car was 27790.00 msrp, I have shown a lesser priced car by other dealers and they matched the price (down by $1000) made is 26790.00 and minus 7500.00, made it 19290.00 plus TTT and ev tax. NC has 3% sales tax.

  4. Until the used car market establishes a track record for EV residual values, “owning” one outside of any warranty, lease or other factory-sponsored coverage makes little sense.

IMHO, the EV ownership experience will be like “boating”….where the two best days are when it’s purchased and when it’s sold.

  5. anyone know if they have found a fix for the screen ? once in a while when I put it in reverse, the rear camera has a blue tint over it and then at other times the entire screen will go black, its random, I can’t make it do it to figure out whats going on , if I stop the car, turn everything off then back on, it goes back to normal
