Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
Chevy Corvette sales continued to dominate the segment during the fourth quarter of 2023 when ranked by sales volume, as has been the case for more than a dozen years now since we started tracking Corvette sales. The Corvette did see a two percent dip in sales to 8,915 units, while Porsche’s two entries placed second and third – the 911 (née Carrera/Targa) saw a nine percent bump to 3,032 units, just over a third of the Corvette’s deliveries, while the 718 (née Cayman/Boxster) saw a six percent slip to 997 units.
The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class – now a model produced by the automaker’s AMG division – followed in fourth with a 50 percent drop to 603 deliveries, while the Lexus LC took fifth with a nine percent bump to 430 units. The second Mercedes-Benz entry, the AMG GT, followed in sixth with a 49 percent slide to 283 units. The rest of the field accounted for less than 600 deliveries combined. Interestingly enough, these rankings were unchanged from last quarter.
As we’ve noted before, many of the segment contenders cost significantly more than Chevy’s mid-engine sports car and, as a result, these higher-priced rivals typically see lower sales volumes. However, that price difference is steadily shrinking, especially as pricing for the Corvette Z06 and first-ever Corvette E-Ray start at over $110K, and the “base model” Stingray now rings in at just under $70K.

The Corvette earned a commanding 60 percent segment share during the quarter, up two percentage points year-over-year, thereby accounting for three-fifths of all sales in this space. The 911 posted a 20 percent share, up two percentage points, while the 718 maintained a seven percent share. As has historically been the case, the 911 was the only model other than the Corvette to earn a segment share in the double digits. The AMG SL-Class held a four percent share, down four percentage points. The LC maintained a three percent share, and the AMG GT posted a two percent share, down two percentage points. The rest of the field earned a cumulative five percent share.
Combining Porsche’s two entries, the 911 and 718 lines, gave the German automaker a 27 percent segment share with 4,029 sales – less than half the share and sales volume of the Corvette.

The GM Authority Take
C8 Corvette sales continues to command the segment as the mid-engine Corvette enters its fifth model year. Incidentally, demand of the C8 range continues to outpace supply.
While competitors keep offering potential challengers, it’s a wait-and-see proposition as the Vette’s segment share was its highest this quarter.
About Corvette
The 2024 Chevy Corvette is offered in three variants – the C8 Stingray, C8 Z06, and first-ever C8 E-Ray. The 2024 model year adds new active safety tech to the model’s features list, including Automatic Emergency Braking and standard IntelliBeam automatic high-beam headlamps as well as Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Warning. The 2024 Corvette also gets new driver mode selection animations along with a new infotainment system that incorporates Google built-in features.
Furthermore, the Stingray’s M1L transmission gets a case design update and, critically, will no longer require two extra quarts of transmission fluid for track use. It should be noted that GM does not condone tracking M1L-equipped vehicles without the Z51 package.
The 2024 Corvette Stingray drops two alloy wheel choices, replacing them with new designs. Check out all the 2024 Corvette wheel options.
Finally, the 2024 Corvette gets a new Edge Red painted rear fascia script LPO-level option.
A year ago, GM debuted the first-ever 2024 Chevy Corvette E-Ray, featuring the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 engine from the Stingray mated to an electric motor mounted at the front axle. The E-Ray is also the first-ever production Corvette equipped with front-wheel drive as well as all-wheel-drive traction.
That combination also makes makes the E-Ray the fastest Corvette ever, with a 0-to-60 mph time of just 2.5 seconds, a tenth of a second quicker than the Z06. Meanwhile, the Corvette Z06 features the 5.5L V8 LT6 gasoline engine, a race-bred, naturally aspirated, dual-overhead cam, flat-plane crank powerplant.
Production of the 2024 Corvette E-Ray started last month.
Accolades for the C8 Corvette continue to roll in.
According to a J.D. Power Study, the Chevy Corvette has a great multimedia system. But the 2025 Corvette C8 refresh will bring noteworthy changes to interior, with the biggest change expected to be the deletion of the HVAC controls found along the large center divider between the two seats.
The Corvette E-Ray made NACTOY’s “Best of 2024” list, being among the 25 vehicles advancing to the finalist round of the 30th annual North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards.
Additionally, the Corvette Convertible won Strategic Vision’s 2023 Total Quality Impact award.
Furthermore, the Corvette Z06 fared well in the Car and Driver 0-150-0 MPH Test and the Chevy Corvette, Corvette E-Ray won the 2024 10Best Award.
Finally, a new study finds that the Chevy Corvette holds its value well.
Next up for the mid-engine Vette is launch of the 2025 Corvette C8 ZR1. It’s expected to be powered by the LT7 engine, a boosted variant of the 5.5 V8 LT6 engine found in the Z06, raising the performance bar even higher. Our spies recently spotted a 2025 Corvette ZR1 prototype testing on the Nurburgring, revealing differences between the ZR1 and Z06 with the Z07 package, as well as sporting a new wheel design.
GM’s biggest challenge with “America’s sport car” continues to be production, building enough units to meet sales demand for Chevy’s ever-popular mid-engine marvel – especially as the automaker continues to add variants to offer the nameplate’s most diverse lineup ever.

Starting to see many dealers with stock C8’s with up to $6k discounts. Some of this might be that I’m in a northern climate where all the C8’s are in storage till April/May. Either way, the C8 market is changing, the E-Ray and a mid-cycle refresh is needed.
While I love my 2023 HTC A new Z06 in Canada comes with a bill for $56,000 in sales tax thanks to the Liberal frauds
Real Truth
I’m not sure why you wouldn’t buy your Corvette in ALBERTA. As we are one of the poorer provinces
our only sales tax is 5% and that’s Federal. If we had a Provincial sales tax I doubt that any one would be buying anything other than food and housing. I think Corvettes would be out of reach for most of us, except for the VERY WEALTHY.
What are the production #’s and MSRP of the cars being compared. Dealers can’t sell what they don’t have.
Still waiting for a manual transmission and the redesign of hideous row of switches down the center of the interior.
Well it appears that you will get your wish in 2025 regarding the switches. As far as a manual transmission, my guess that you are SOL with regard to the C8.
With paddle shifters giving direct selection of gear and the transmission’s ability to shift more rapidly than a manual, you are going to wait an eternity.
I have been waiting on Cioccas Z06 list since February 2021 why won’t Mary allow the car to be built ?
Can’t buy a car in Alberta if you live in Ontario or any other province with high sales tax.
