The GM Authority Take
Chevy Camaro sales saw a healthy uptick during the fourth quarter of 2023, while outselling the likes of the Toyota 86, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Subaru BRZ, and the Fiat 124 Spider.
Alas, the last Camaro has been built due to faltering sales and notable missteps, while GM remains committed to a somewhat aggressive strategy to go fully electric by 2035. There’s some Camaro inventory out there still, so those who would like to get their hands on a new unit would probably be well advised to scoop one up sooner rather than later.
About Chevrolet Camaro
The 2024 Chevy Camaro arrived as the ninth and final model year of the current sixth generation, adding a pair of special-edition variants to the range. These include the 2024 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 Edition, as well as the 2024 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Collector Edition, both of which offer their own unique content and varying levels of exclusivity to pay homage to the first-gen Camaro’s internal program code of “Panther.” The Collector Edition was offered on all trim levels, but only the ZL1 could be ordered with the Panther Black Matte paint – a first for the nameplate.
A boatload of other changes for the 2024 Camaro included dropping two paint colors, the Shock and Steel Edition package, the lowered suspension package and the sway bar package, the 20-Inch Caliente wheels, the base 1LS trim level, and the turbo 2.0L LTG engine. Additionally, the 2024 Camaro SS 1LE Suspension Handling Package became unavailable while the full SS 1LE Track Performance Package remained available to order.

A new study finds that the Chevy Camaro holds its value very well.
Final units of the Camaro Convertible were produced on November 22nd and the last Camaro Coupe was built on December 14th – fittingly a 2024 Chevy Camaro ZL1 with a clutch – bringing production of the muscle car’s sixth generation to an end with no ICE successor in the works. For now that marks the permanent sunsetting of the Bow Tie brand’s muscle car.
In March, GM slyly confirmed a next-generation Chevy Camaro will eventually be introduced to keep the nameplate alive. Global Chevrolet vice president Scott Bell stated “While we are not announcing an immediate successor today, rest assured, this is not the end of Camaro’s story.”
Most recently, a Chevrolet spokesperson provided a statement about the end of 2024 Chevy Camaro production and that of the Camaro overall. “Camaro is a passion product,” noting that “it has developed a fan base across the world and has brought people into Chevrolet dealerships for generations.”
In summary, “the sixth generation specifically represented athleticism and composure – exuding confidence on the road and dominance on the track.”
Along with many other fans of the Bow Tie brand’s muscle car, we’ll savor the Collector Edition while eagerly anticipating what GM delivers for the next-generation of the Camaro nameplate. It is one with a rich history that is dear to generations of drivers, even those beyond our borders as the Collector Edition arrives in Mexico, and in Brazil with a unique look.
Looking forward, we continue to speculate that the Camaro name may not be applied to a single vehicle model, but to a broader EV sub-brand. Some of the models would likely resemble the familiar Camaro with coupe and convertible variants, while others might be sporty two-door and four-door crossover SUVs, with a mid-priced sports car as the brand flagship.

Who cares? It’s dead.
Why are you even writing this article? No one cares. Mary killed this great car and I’m not happy about it.
Mary’s favorite car is the Camaro; I highly doubt she is solely to blame… Its sales are small in an already small and shrinking segment. Could they have soldiered on, sure. Am I bummed, yes. But chill with your sexist claims.
They never tried to sell it, I can’t remember ever seeing a Camaro advertisement on TV.
What the older arm chair warriors should understand is that GM is in the business to make money for its shareholders, not to keep happy a bunch of nostalgic old timers. And whether you like it or not, Mary is leading the charge. Camaro being a car built for knowledgeable, enthusiastic car people does not need much advertising to sell itself. And quit whining, Camaro will be back with a new V8 engine.
What you fail to understand is that Ford has no problem making gains the segment.
What you fail to understand is that the Camaro is a parts bin special leading to lowered costs.
What you fail to understand is that GM did almost nothing to address criticisms.
What you fail to understand is that GM did make a half azzed effort in 2020 to increase V8 sales with the LT1 model (so much for only being for “knowledgeable enthusiasts”).
What you fail to understand is that Mary also disbanded the Corvette team.
What you fail to understand is that hardcore Camaro enthusiasts inside GM begged for a mild interior update (leather colors) but Mary said no.
What you fail to understand is that I am most likely younger than you and I have a ZL1.
The ZL1 Camaros fly at Mid-Ohio when I visit for track events. I know of several recent purchases to get one of the last models made. The ZL1 is a fast-track car and good value and would always pass any Mustang.
Never saw any Dodge Challengers, but there were always several Mustangs on the club track weekends. I will likely see a few Dark Horse Mustangs this coming summer.
Ford has done a good job with the Mustang, too bad the Camaro has bit the dust.
I would really be interested in seeing the data on how many Customer sold orders were never picked up over the past couple of years by GM for Camaro’s….mine never was……placed in August. You can’t sell what isn’t allocated…..
There were many Camaro that sat unsold for a number of years.
What is funny is often the ones complaining the most are the very ones that never bought the car or have not bought a new Camaro in years.
So easy to complain but much harder to back it up.
GM has made no effort to improve on the body or interior design in resulting in an uncomfortable chopped top feel when driving and a horrible dash. Had they refined the design to include more green house that felt good to the driver and used a modern version of the ’67 dash or Firebird dash their sales would have been much better. Yes, the chassis and suspension was the best in the field but and the exterior looked good but not the driving position.
Did a search for 2024 Camaro on Chevrolet.com. Only 2023 available? What’s with that?
The Camaro will be back!
Why is it that Chevrolet will not state how many of each Camaro model were built? I have gone from dealer to Chevrolet customer service to Hagerty insurance and no one can give me a breakdown on the total Camaros built by model. I was lucky enough to get a 2SS panther edition and love the car thus far. ( my fourth Camaro had the first third and fifth generation) I would just like to know how many of mine were built. Vin number no longer relays that info. Why can’t Chevrolet answer my question???
Those are good sales numbers. Other manufacturers sell 8000 units/year for their flagship sports cars in North America and are very satisfied. The Nissan Z and Supra each sell less than 3000 units/year on the North American market.
There is clearly demand and a decent profit to be made. Sure it might not compare with hundreds of thouands of SUVs and pickup trucks sold, but having a flagship muscle car will always add charm to the brand and pleasure to true fans.
