2025 Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss Officially Unveiled

General Motors has unveiled the 2025 Chevy Silverado HD, and with it, several updates and changes, the most notable of which is the new 2025 Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss package. With a bevy of off-road-oriented equipment and styling pieces, the 2025 Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss completes the Bow Tie brand’s Trail Boss lineup. Although GM introduced the refreshed Chevy Silverado HD for the 2024 model year, the latest 2025 model year includes additional updates and changes.

The new Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss package is available for LT and LTZ trim levels, slotting below the ZR2 package with regard to the heavy-duty pickup’s off-roader options. Back in October of 2023, GM Authority was the first to report that a 2025 Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss package was on the way, rendering what we thought such a vehicle could look like the following November.

Now, however, GM has announced official details on what the package entails. Highlights include all the standard equipment of either the LT or LTZ trims, plus the Z71 shocks and suspension package and unique 20-inch black wheels wrapped in off-road tires. There’s also Trail Boss bed decals, red recovery hooks, blacked-out bumpers front and rear, blacked-out trim, and blacked-out badging.

Under the hood, the 2025 Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss equips the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine as standard, rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. The 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine is optional, putting down 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. Output figures for both powerplants are identical to those for the 2024 model year. Both powerplants connect to the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 2025 Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss will launch this summer, with pricing details expected closer to the start of regular production.

As a reminder, the Chevy Silverado HD rides on a more-capable variant of the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Flint plant in Michigan and GM Oshawa plant in Canada.

  1. When does 2025 model year production start?

    1. July is usually when the next model year starts.

  2. No lift = no go. Its just an appearance package with upgraded shocks. They should have kept the ZR2 lift, downsized an inch in tires and replaced the MMS shocks with an upgraded rancho and preferably kept the selectable locker but the G80 would have been fine. This, no reason not to go an LT with better styling (IE chrome bumpers and aluminum wheels) over the black bumpers and wheels of this. This was a miss on my part, should have followed the same path as the half ton and midsize trucks in terms of lift for those models. They then could have added the lift to the AT4 to follow suit…

    1. the hd series of trucks are already tall. lifting it is not necessary. on top of that it has 35s.

      1. If it has 35’s that’s great, but a small lift does a few things. It differentiates it from the standard models as this is an offroad model that is the next step above the Z71/X31. It also gives some extra clearance, especially break over. These are long trucks, I already drag my half town on occasion in the back country out west. Every little bit helps. It is easy enough for them to do and follow the path of the other models and set a theme. Z71/X31 stock height —> TB/AT4 small lift and larger tires/upgraded shocks —> ZR2/AT4X same or more lift with selectable rear locker and serious shocks loaded to box checker level.

Really these should all be package options on different trims like Ford on all except the top range models (Denali/High Country), but i’ll digress.

On top of that they put 20’s on it? The smallest wheels should be the only option on off road packages.

        1. Going from 32->35 is basically a 1.5” lift. Satisfied?

        2. I’ve got one even better….Have a Solid front axle option! Ram and Ford still offer a solid front axle on their “Big” trucks. While IFS, is nice for prople wco want car like ride. A solid axle just can’t be beat for real “Off Road” capability. It is also easier and cheaper to lift it, if that’s what one wants to do. GM is and has, been missing the boat with not having a solid axle option.

          1. I agree. My husband in the past, has converted several IFS Chevies to a solid front axle. Even done 2wd into 4×4’s. GM should at least give the buyer, the option of a solid front axle.At least on the HD models. A few years ago, Chevy had a 1 1/2 ton Cab and chassis. That was a no brainer to convert. In fact, there were a few aftermarket companies. doing just that. Ram and Ford, still do. GM is really messing up with not doing so. Give the consumer the option!

  3. It is cool and all, but it is basically a Z71 Sport package, minus maybe the LED headlights (since it isn’t mentioned in the article). Disappointing that it isn’t offered on the WT like the 1500 trucks.

    1. In the picture they are LED. What they need to do is add those headlights to another option package that isn’t sport or blacked out. LED headlights should be a standalone option or come with the safety package or one of the convenience packages. Funny thing is you can get a center console on the LT Silverado but no LED headlights but on the Sierra SLE you get LED headlights but no center console. I like my folding console now but want to go buckets next I think.

I do want LED headlights as I know they are superior done right. I am not going to be one of those D*cks that throw LED bulbs in a reflector halogen housing and blind everyone. They are illegal, not designed for the housing (the light wave lengths are different to start) and they are outperformed by a proper upgraded halogen bulb without the uneven coverage that LED’s bring.

      1. You also can’t get a leather package or factory sunroof on the GMC 2500 SLE. The center console with bucket seats is great for storage, which as you said, is absent from the SLE. For these reasons, I opted for a fully loaded (for its trim) 2024 Chevy 2500 LT vs the GMC.

I’ve generally been a GMC buyer, but there’s too much value in a well-optioned LT to pass up, compared to what The General is offering on the SLE.

  6. Now put the mirrors back! Look like crap on the doors!

    1. I said the same thing. I think they would look better if they just had a better design instead of that giant hinge look.
