As GM Authority has been following, General Motors has been showing its support for the Detroit Lions in the upcoming 2023 NFC Championship Game in a number of ways, including a stylized version of its iconic GM logo and delaying a shift at the GM Flint plant in Michigan so workers can watch the game. Now, Cadillac Racing and the 2025 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing will add to the Detroit-based automaker’s support at the Rolex 24 in Daytona.
As reference, the 2025 CT5-V Blackwing will serve as the Official Safety Car for the Rolex 24 on January 27th and 28th, 2024. As such, Cadillac Racing is taking the opportunity to showcase its Detroit “OnePride” spirit with a Detroit Lions sticker pasted onto the rear bumper of the safety car.
It’s worth noting that three Cadillac LMDH-V race cars will be competing at the 24-hour race, with Pipo Derani setting the fastest lap in qualifying at 1:32.656 seconds from behind the wheel of the No. 31 Action Express Racing Cadillac V-Series.R.
For those who may not be aware, the Detroit Lions are set to face off against the San Francisco 49ers in the 2023 NFC Championship Game, the winner of which will represent the NFC in Super Bowl LVIII. Considering how poorly the franchise has performed since the AFL-NFL merger back in 1970, many Lions fans are ecstatic at the chance to win a Super Bowl.
Notably, the Lions tied their franchise regular season record this year at 12-5, and are seeded third overall for the NFC. Meanwhile, the winner of the AFC Championship Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens will move on to play in Super Bowl LVIII.
As a reminder, General Motors recently unveiled the revised 2025 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing. With the introduction of a mid-cycle refresh, the track-focused luxury sedan will receive many of the same upgrades of the “regular” CT5, including an updated front fascia and thoroughly overhauled cabin.
Of course, one of the major draws of the pre-refreshed CT5-V Blackwing was its powertrain. Never fear, as the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine, rated at 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque, and standard six-speed manual transmission will return for the 2025 model year.
