Wehrli Custom Offers Chevy Silverado MD Pickup Bed Frame Rail Extension Kit: Video

First launching for the 2019 model year, the Chevy Silverado MD medium-duty truck is available in three series, including the Silverado 4500 HD (Class 4), Silverado 5500 HD (Class 5), and the Silverado 6500 HD (Class 6). Offered in a “straight chassis” configuration with a flat frame rail behind the cab, some Chevy Silverado MD owners may be interested in installing a bed to make their truck more of a traditional pickup. Now, Wehrli Custom is offering a bed frame rail extension kit for exactly that purpose.

Available for 2019-and-above Chevy Silverado MD models (4500 HD, 5500 HD, and 6500 HD), the new Wehrli Custom bed frame rail extension kit is designed for those customers interested in installing a bed that is useful, and more than just for looks. The frame rail extension kit includes a full-length C-channel that’s designed to be supportive and strong, with the crossmembers of the pickup bed laying directly on a support, circumventing a possible situation wherein the bed folds under a heavy load.

The rails are mounted up to all eight of the available mounting points front and rear, and as Wehrli Custom points out, welding directly to the chassis is not recommended. Additionally, the crossmembers of the kit include pass-throughs that allow installers to run fuel lines, accessory wiring, or just about anything else needed. There’s also additional space to incorporate other aftermarket upgrades, such as air tanks for an air suspension system.

The frame rail extension kit is made from full-length 11G steel with a powder coat finish, and includes three full-width crossmembers. The kit can be installed at home if desired, but Wehrli Custom can install it for you as well.

Pricing is set at $995, per the Wehrli Custom website. Check out the kit details in the brief feature video below:

As a reminder, all Chevy Silverado MD trucks are powered exclusively by the 6.6L V8 L5D turbodiesel Duramax engine.

  1. Nice!!! but…. This should be readily available direct from the factory. Having to spend extra cash in the aftermarket,is dumb and foolish. Plus, the extra long wheel base of these trucks, does not lend itself very well to a pick up box. Buyers should be able to order any wheel base they desire. Not two football fields long as now. AND, tires and wheels that fill those giant wheel wells. How sweet that would be, to have a single cab, 4×4 shorter wheelbase model? OH, I can dream!!!!
