GM crossover sales grew 33 percent to 275,524 units in the United States during the third quarter of 2023. The figures include models with internal combustion engines as well as electric vehicles.

Of the 19 nameplates that make up GM crossover sales, half experienced a decrease in sales volume, though one of those models – the Buick Encore – has been discontinued.
The top three models by volume were the compact Chevy Equinox with 48,291 deliveries, the subcompact Trax with 20,060 deliveries, and the full-size Chevy Traverse with 32,318 deliveries. Those three models alone accounted for 43 percent of overall GM crossover sales in the U.S.
Chevy models accounted for two-thirds, or 66 percent, of overall GM crossover sales, partially due to high volumes of the Equinox, Trailblazer, and now the Trax, as well as the number of models fielded by the Bow Tie brand compared to the other three GM brands. Specifically, Chevy makes up eight of the 19 crossovers fielded by GM in its home market. Buick accounted for 16 percent of overall sales with five modes (though, as mentioned earlier, one has been discontinued), which happen to be the type of vehicle currently fielded by the brand in the U.S. GMC followed at 12 percent with its two crossovers, and Cadillac accounted for seven percent of U.S. GM crossover sales with its four models.
The top three fastest-growing crossovers during the quarter were:
- The all-new Chevy Trax subcompact, which posted a nearly 500 percent leap in sales to 37,869 units,
- The refreshed Buick Encore GX subcompact, which saw a 104 percent jump to 20,060 units, and
- The refreshed Chevy Trailblazer subcompact, which saw a 76 percent growth to 30,671 units
GM now fields four all-electric utilities, with Chevy currently selling the Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUVÂ along with the Chevy Blazer EV, and Cadillac now selling its first-ever EV, the Cadillac Lyriq. Cumulatively, EV sales grew 28 percent to 18,872 units, accounting for seven percent of overall GM crossover sales – same as they did a year ago. That said, sharp-eyed readers may have noticed that we didn’t count EVs in the list of top growing models, for several reasons.
Lyriq percent change figures are skewed, since it’s an all-new model with little sales history and without a direct model to replace. The Lyriq delivered an 8,283 percent jump in sales year-over-year. Regarding the Bolt EV and EUV, sales continue to recover from extremely low volumes over a year ago as a result of a battery recall, associated stop-sale, and production stoppage stemming from some vehicles catching on fire. As such, the sales performance somewhat follows the skewed trajectory. The Blazer EV has just arrived on the market with 19 deliveries this quarter, so sales of it are just getting started.

While GM continues to add models to the ever-growing EV market with its eye on an all-electric portfolio by 2035, the automaker still invests in its ICE-based stable of utility success stories with refreshed and all-new offerings.
In some cases, buyers may cross-shop body-on-frame SUV equivalents to unibody crossovers, especially ones that are similar in size, like the Chevy Tahoe SUV and Traverse crossover. Buick is currently the only GM brand that doesn’t offer body-on-frame SUVs. Looking at combined GM utility vehicle sales comprised of crossovers and SUVs, deliveries grew 23 percent to 347,336 units.

Including SUVs in the mix, Chevy still commanded over half of total GM utility vehicle sales, or the same 63 percent, as when looking only at crossovers, followed by GMC with a 15 percent share, Buick with a 13 percent share, and Cadillac with an eight percent share. The top three spots, by growth and volume, remained unchanged from above, and did not include an SUV this time around, unlike a year ago, when the Tahoe placed second in terms of volume.

Comments
Not surprised since that’s about all they sell.
Are those figures including sales to the rental car companies?
Again I will say it,Mary has got to go!!!
The Bolt EV and EUV combined for almost 50,000 sales in calendar year 2023 so far, by far the best selling GM EVs. If GM is fully committed to selling EV’s, then why discontinue these models? Customers are begging for affordable EV’s. And I read that the upcoming EV Equinox that was promised to start at $30K is now starting at $48K. I guess GM is more interested in making exorbitant profits on each vehicle than being fully committed to selling affordable EV’s for everyone.
What a dumb statistic and article.
Like previously said, ‘that’s all they sell’’
Mary executed the Cruze which would have sold like crazy during the high gas prices and exorbitant vehicles prices.
Mary’s short term goals for her own stock benefit will hurt GM for years to come.
Time to get rid of that old bat Barra.
Well…. it’s not like GM builds cars… what do you expect?
