The 2024 Chevy Traverse made its formal introduction over the summer, introducing an all-new third generation for the three-row crossover. As expected, the 2024 Traverse introduces a wide variety of updates and changes over the preceding model year, including new styling, an overhauled cabin, new tech features, and a new engine as well. Only four trim levels are offered, with the High Country and Premier dropped from the lineup, as GM Authority was the first to report. Now, GM Authority has learned that the 2024 Chevy Traverse RS is based on the forthcoming Premier trim expected for the 2025 model year.
For those readers who may be unaware, the 2024 Chevy Traverse trim level lineup includes the LS, the LT, the new-for-2024 Z71 (as GM Authority was the first to report), and finally, the sporty RS. The Premier and High Country trim levels offered previously were dropped for the 2024 model year.
Looking ahead, however, the Premier trim is expected to make its return to the Chevy Traverse lineup in conjunction with the 2025 model year. When it does, the Premier will share a good deal of similarity to the Chevy Traverse RS currently offered for the 2024 model year. In other words, both the 2024 Chevy Traverse RS and the forthcoming 2025 Chevy Traverse Premier will share similar equipment levels, with cosmetics offered as the primary differentiating factor between the two trim levels.
The current ICE-based Chevy Blazer is a good example of this. The Chevy Blazer RS and Chevy Blazer Premier both feature roughly the same content, but differ in terms of styling, with RS trims equipped with black accenting, and Premier trims equipped with chrome accenting. The interior colorways and alloy wheel designs are another point of departure between the two Blazer trims. Both are also similarly priced, although the Chevy Blazer Premier is equipped as standard with the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, offering the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX gasoline engine as a $500 option, while the Blazer RS is equipped as standard with the V6 LGX.
As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Traverse is equipped as standard with the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine, while the GM C1 platform provides the underpinnings. Production takes place at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan.

Looks like I’ll have to wait a year to get a high-end trim without the garish red accents….or hope that I can option up an LT with the midnight package
Unfortunately the LT has very limited options. Even the higher-optioned Z71 which at least has less red on the seats, has the fake leather, no ventilated seats, and quite a few options the RS doesn’t allow. Even a midnight or black package Limited will probably have the chrome bezels around lights and the windows. It sounds like we’re aligned in wanting a sporty/black accent exterior with a luxury interior. I have to believe there are more people out there with the same thoughts and I fear they will be going to a Jeep, Ford, or foreign to gain optionality. Overall, this refresh is exactly what the Traverse needed but I don’t know how they keep messing up these option packages. Trucks have the same problem.
The all black wheels as the only choice is a mistake. They should have followed what they did with the Trax and Trailblazer RS and have a far nicer machine faced alloy wheel with the all black as an option. The other issue is the black only interior which looks lower tier in the RS compared to what the previous Premier version offered with several colorways.
Even though I’m personally a fan of the all-black exterior look, I agree there should be more options to accommodate a larger buyer pool. The red accent only interior is atrocious in my opinion. I’m sure some will love it, but no other option is a huge mistake.
Guys, that’s the nature and character of RS. There will be other trims (Premier) that will not have the red or black elements.
Hey, if they keep delaying it, they can just launch with this trim!
So the explorer is still king of midsize suv oh well good try gm
Does anyone know , if the new engine is going to run on regular or high test fuel?
What’s with the black wheels? Not a fan. I’ve noticed many of the manufacturers are eliminating machine faced alloys for the painted black alloys. The lack of a choice or an option would turn me away from a sale especially for a high end SUV or Pick up truck.
WAINE FROM CANADA .. THE FRONT LOOKS VERY SIMILER TO THE FRONT ON MY NEW 2023 BLAZER RS ???? CHEERS ..
