General Motors has issued a Customer Satisfaction Program for certain 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 units over concern that the transmission case is out of specification.
Select 2023 Silverado 1500 pickup trucks may have a condition where the cases of the GM 10-speed automatic RPO MHS and MHT transmissions are out of specification. These gearboxes are connected to either the 5.3L V8 L84 or the 6.2L V8 L87 engines. Certified GM technicians are to inspect affected vehicles and replace the transmission as necessary.
There are 10 separate parts needed for the replacement, for a total of 21 pieces in all. Some notable items include:
- Transmission
- Exhaust Manifold Pipe Seal
- Transfer Case Adaptor Gasket
- Transfer Case Output Shaft Clamp
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Seal
- Transfer Case Front Output Shaft Clamp
- Automatic Transmission Fluid
Meanwhile, General Motors estimates that there are 31 units affected, when accounting for both Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 models. As far as labor times go, a full-size pickup equipped with RWD will take roughly eight hours to complete the Customer Satisfaction Program, while a 4WD unit should take GM techs 10 hours.
Dealerships will reach out to owners of affected trucks. It’s worth noting that Customer Satisfaction Program N232417460 will remain in effect until January 31st, 2026.
As a reminder, the Chevy Silverado 1500 is offered with a wide range of engine options, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline TurboMax engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
In regard to structure, the Silverado rides on the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, the GM Oshawa plant in Canada, and the GM Silao plant in Mexico.

“ General Motors estimates that there are 31 units affected”
GM Authority headline-baitis worse than the New York Post
And you believe it’s just 31 ? Wow !
Wonder what’s “out of specification”. Must be significant if they’re replacing transmissions, versus telling dealers to reshim something etc.
just take a grinder and a welder to it. It worked for the roof fix.
That truck is the poorest excuse of a vehicle I have ever seen the guys involved in the design should be ashamed of themselves the coolant lines and the wire harness routing is worse then a 2 year old could do I’ve seen about 30 with 150000 miles with bad timing chains and for that you have to pull the engine and pulling that turbo off is stupid just to get to the valve cover and I have never in my life seen a design this bad
Got to wonder how they came up with just 31 trucks? Something don’t smell right. Lol
Totally agree, just 31 ? BS.
It’s not just 2023 !! I have a 2017 that the trans needs to be replaced !! The trucks are garbage !! I will never buy another.
@Jerry.. and the next brand you buy will have issues as well. You are not going to get away from issues.
