Should GM Make Another Cadillac Pickup Truck: Poll

At present, Cadillac’s vehicle lineup includes several crossovers (XT4, XT5, XT6, Lyriq), SUVs (Escalade, Escalade IQ), and a smattering of sedans (CT4, CT5, Celestiq), but back in the day, Caddy customers had access to a pickup model as well. Dubbed the Escalade EXT, the Cadillac pickup featured four full-size doors, seating for five passengers, and a composite pickup bed that offered expanded room through a midgate located behind the rear seat. Unfortunately, the Escalade EXT ended production with the conclusion of the 2006 model year, but now, we want to know – should GM make another Cadillac pickup truck?

Cadillac badge on a Cadillac XT4.

It’s certainly an interesting idea, and although there are currently no known plans at GM to offer such a vehicle, we can think of more than a few arguments in favor of it. Additionally, we should mention that a modern Cadillac pickup wouldn’t necessarily need to carry the Escalade EXT nameplate, nor would it need to draw any similarities to the EXT. Rather, the Escalade EXT provides a good framework to imagine a modern version of a similar idea.

So, why would a Cadillac pickup truck be good idea? Well, for starters, the pickup segment is ridiculously popular, with models like the Chevy Silverado and Ford F-150 regularly taking the top spots in vehicle sales lists. Trucks are also quite profitable, with one report released earlier in the year indicating that GM has the potential to earn upwards of $7.5 billion from its ICE-powered full-size trucks and SUVs through 2035, or roughly $10,678 in profit per vehicle before interest or taxes.

In addition, the pickup segment is already populated by several high-end, luxury-oriented models, including range-toppers like the GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate and Ford F-150 Platinum, but luxury brands have also toyed with the idea. One example would be the Mercedes X-Class, produced between 2017 and 2020 as an upscale, reskinned Nissan Navara.

Finally, who could deny the appeal of a full-size Cadillac pickup running the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 from the Escalade-V? That’s one idea we could certainly get behind.

Of course, there are a few arguments against the idea, as well. For example, a new pickup model may not be what the Cadillac brand needs in terms of image. What’s more, GM already offers several high-end luxury trucks from its other brands, like the Chevy Silverado High Country and GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate.

With that all said, we still want to know – should GM make another Cadillac pickup truck? Tell us by voting in the poll below, and remember to subscribe to GM Authority for more Cadillac news, GM business news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

  1. The Cadillac EXT was last built in 2013, yes they need to build the EXT and the Chevrolet Avalanche again but it will never happen with this EV $%^%$# they keep trying to stick us with

    1. It’s more likely to happen as an EV. There’s so much cost saving designing an EV off the Ultium platform. Plus there is no emissions testing.

  2. I’d like to see a Cadillac pickup, and would certainly consider replacing my Denali with one. Unfortunately, with Cadillac’s planned all electric future I can’t see it happening unless it’s based on the Chevy/GMC electric pickups, which wouldn’t interest me.

Personally I much rather see the V’s supercharged 6.2 dropped in a lowered Denali or Silverado to create a modern Syclone or SS. I know SVE has announced they plan on doing a Syclone conversion, but I’d much prefer a factory built GM performance, truck over a conversion.

I don’t need a Cadillac pickup, I’d be happy if I could just buy a Denali Ultimate with the 6.5 box (and maybe the supercharged 6.2)!

  4. Don’t forget gm already builds the bloated luxury Hummer in this segment.

  5. How much more luxurious will the EXT be compared to the Sierra Denali Ultimate and Silverado High Country at $30K more if built? The EXT will need to be a lot more special compared to the aforementioned models if going to be a sales success like the two cousins to consider having a business case for production.

    1. Both Chevy and GMC make some pretty great trunks, but they are not a Cadillac. There’s nothing like the ride of a Cadillac. Not to mention the luxury. I thought it was a mistake that Cadillac stopped making trucks. I mean, if you have to drive a truck, shouldn’t you have all of the comforts of a Cadillac?

    2. You answered your own question. Plus $30,000. That’s the business case. People will pay for the big screens, styling and Cadillac name. They already do.

  7. Hell yes bring back the Caddy EXT! Why did you stop building it in the first place?! Perfect vehicle for person that doesn’t want the Escalade SUV but doesn’t want a Ford F150, Ram 1500 or Chevy Silverado. Wants a much more “upscale” truck with more status. Are you listening Mary Barra & team?

    1. Didn’t they stop making the Avalanche at the same time?

  8. Pickups are for redneck working stiffs like me. Cadillac should instead build and sell a SPORTS CAR a la XLR with C8 Corvette underpinnings. Be ahead of the curve with pure electric propulsion.

  9. Bring it back.

  10. Yes as long as it’s not an EV!

  11. This might be the dumbest idea being kicked around., GM owns the SUV market with Tahoe, Suburban and Escalade. If they put a Cadillac emblem on a pickup truck they would not sell any more pickups. It would look like a Silverado or Sierra with a caddy name plate. Cadillac has not won any quality awards lately and Chevy and GMC rank just as high so why bother. Ford owns the pickup market and probably will for many years to come. Ford builds every F-150 in the USA. A Cadillac nameplate pick up like in the past would be another mistake for GM like making the Cadillac Allante, Cimmaron, Catera. I could go on and on about mistakes from the past, but the GM Board does what they want and do not pay attention to loyal GM car buyers.

    1. We have an Avalanche. Bought brand new in 2001. 200k on the clock. Still runs and looks great. Would buy a Caddy EXT in a heartbeat if it was the same design as before (back panels, midgate, storage in rear side rails, etc etc.

    2. I agree with your saying a cadillac would just take sales from the chevy/gmc lines. I disagree F owns the pickup market. Last I checked gmc sierra + chevy silverado > f-150.

    3. I had a Avalanche from 2003-08. Had 4 different GMT 900s since then , and then picked up an 07 EXT earlier this year.

Trucks since then have gotten more space in the rear seat. Even in 2013 the Silverado didn’t have a ton of rear space and not a flat floor.

That’s all changed and that would be a requirement for something like this, space and a flat floor.

The midgate is being brought back in the Silverado EV (split midgate) and the split midgate would assist with the flat floor part because if you had partial access to the flat bed, it would eliminate the need somewhat for a flat floor in the rear of the cab.

Anyways, It’s be cool to have, but I couldn’t afford a new one and the nicelheness of it wouldn’t sell long enough to be worth it. They brought back Hummer as EV for the niche factor.and alternative to Chev and GMC for these things.

    4. Whoever compared the EXT to the Allante is ridiculous. The EXT of the past outold the Allante like 400,000 to 1. What are you talking about?? Did the Escalade production halt GM pickup sales in the past? The dumbest idea GM kicked around was to end production in the first place. The Cadillac Truck was a little more than just another model. It was becoming a cultural icon. Especially among the ethnic communities. They overlooked that point. Whats more, people are buying less cars today. Ford doesn’t even sell Sedans anymore. The Truck market is greater than it’s ever been. It would be the perfect time to bring the Cadillac truck back!

  19. The EXT saved the business case of the Avalanche back in 1998. Today – same as then, a new EXT (and Avalanche) would provide a richer mix for current GM truck customers, attract conquests from other brands and add incremental units to the scale of full-size trucks for GM.

  21. I Have owned every brand domestic 1/2-ton pickup truck. The EXT/Avalanche my favorite out of all of them. They are Loaded, premium sound, heated & cooled seats. Haul 8-foot material in an enclosed bed and out to dinner at the end of the day. Haul a 24-foot enclosed aluminum trailer with Vette 8000 lbs. twice a year from Ohio to the NCM track for the last 8 years. 120000 miles on a 2013 still running strong with original trans. Just ask anyone that owns one.

  27. V-Series only. Chevrolet Avalanche style with the various bed/mid gate configurations. However, built on the T1 frame instead of the Suburban rear independent suspension. Us lifted life guys like to lift our pickups. Realize this will never happen, just like the thought of Cyclone Sierra or a L84 V/8 Canyon. Oh well, let’s make 2024 great!

  28. I think they should have never gotten rid of the EXT/Avalanche line in the beginning…I know plenty of people that still want tone of these..I still want an EXT..had an 02 Z66 Avalanche already..so either one..and they say the already got all these high-end luxury Silverado models, but about 3 or 4 models they try to implement the Avalanche concept..why?…you kill one of the most, if not the most iconic selling trucks, but still use it’s attractive selling-point features.
