SAIC-GM, General Motors’ primary joint venture in China, has officially launched the refreshed Cadillac CT5 in the Asian country.
The automaker launched the refreshed Cadillac CT5 on Friday, December 29th during a special media event in China, just weeks after officially announcing the mid-cycle refresh of Cadillac’s D-segment luxury sedan in that country. As such, the updated CT5 arrives in the Chinese market as a 2024 model year vehicle, continuing to refresh the brand’s extensive portfolio of locally manufactured products. Notably, the launch of the refreshed Cadillac CT5 takes place four years after the vehicle’s official introduction in China in November 2019.
The refreshed model adopts a new front fascia consistent with the luxury marque’s current design language, as well as a next-generation cockpit. In addition, GM has also launched a new marketing campaign to promote the refreshed CT5. The effort positions the updated CT5 as an “American-style sports sedan.”
With a total of four trim levels, the refreshed Cadillac CT5 introduces two front-end designs that deliver unique appearance options, with the Luxury trim getting one fascia while the bolder Sport getting another. In fact, the Sport model will be available for first time ever in China, bringing an appearance package inspired by the CT5-V, which was never offered in the Chinese market.
All launch versions are equipped with the 2.0L I4 LSY turbocharged engine and GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission.
For its part, the interior of the refreshed Cadillac CT5 elevates the technological experience with a curved 33-inch 9K screen. Standard on all trims, the new display also results in a slight rearrangement of elements within the center stack that raise the level of cabin refinement. In addition to state-of-the-art hardware and premium materials, the refreshed CT5 also receives a new class-leading 16-speaker AKG professional-grade audio system.
The refreshed Cadillac CT5 is now available for sale throughout the network of Cadillac dealers in China, where more than 260,000 units of the vehicle have been sold during the 2023 calendar year. This includes two consecutive months during which sales have exceeded 10,000 units. As such, the updated CT5 further boosts the solid commercial performance of Cadillac’s most popular nameplate in the Chinese market.
Here are the prices of the four launch versions of the refreshed Cadillac CT5 in China:
- 2024 Cadillac CT5 Luxury: 289,700 yuan (about $40,960 USD at the current exchange rate)
- 2024 Cadillac CT5 Luxury Pro: 299,700 yuan ($42,380 USD)
- 2024 Cadillac CT5 Sport: 320,700 yuan ($45,350 USD)
- 2024 Cadillac CT5 Platinum: 341,700 yuan ($48,300 USD)
For those wondering, the changes received by the CT5 in China mirror those that Cadillac had previously announced for North American markets.

“….in China, where more than 260,000 units of the vehicle have been sold through the end of the 2023 calendar year 2023……”
A badly written sentence, to be sure. But it contains the answer to all the flag-wavers here as to why the Chinese market “gets everything”.
They actually BUY Cadillac sedans. Something Americans do not. It’s just that simple.
The CT5 might post sales of about 20K in the US this year (2023). And that will be its BEST since introduction. Still just a fraction of China sales. CT4 sales are even more pathetic. I suspect there will be no updated model and that it will be discontinued soon. (Which pains me because I got one last year and love it.)
Sales volume released by SGM today is 183577
6% less than 2022
22% less than 2021
What’s more worse is EV is not saleing here,LYRIQ is a nightmare with so many software problem
We all believe GM is in some serious trouble here, god bless them
Cadillac doesn’t sell Sedans, in the US, because they don’t advertise them. I can’t tell you how many times strangers walked up to me or my wife, when we had our CT6, told us it was beautiful and asked what kind of car it was. It hasn’t happened yet with the CT5, but the fact remains Advertising works…if you don’t advertise, you don’t sell. Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Lexus (ugly as they are) sell sedans. Cadillac doesn’t and Jaguar doesn’t because neither advertise. It ain’t Rocket Science…its Marketing 101.

Sad case, they get the car and we have to wait until 2025 ? 😂 let me see what that Lincoln continental or mkz is talking about.
Ric
It will be in US showrooms this Summer. You’re never gonna buy one anyway. Why do you care?
You do realize the Lincolns you mention were discontinued years ago, right?
Megbee,
I’m actually highly interested in replacing my impala with the refreshed ct5 since the ct6 is gone. That’s actually good to know they will be on sale this summer
Let’s not forget who bailed this company out of financial ruin…yet we get dismissed by our Mary. I get China sales are great but they decided to give us nothing but SUV’s and EV’s. Now you finally have a car we want and you snub us…and where is the updated CT5V?!
RW:
“Now you finally have a car we want and you snub us…”
Who’s “we”?
“Snubbed”? By a few months? What difference does it make?
How many CT5s have YOU bought? How many 2025 models are you planning to buy? It seems to me your problem is with the American buyer, not GM.
“…they decided to give us nothing but SUV’s and EV’s”
Perhaps you should check the facts before you post. There is one EV and 2 ICE sedans in the line-up.
Ha! Mcgebee
What are you a salesman
GM’s push for EV’s is not going away! Hybrid would’ve been great but you (GM) force us out of sedans. Check it out for facts. Then you offer limited options and one we favor more than others but we may not have it. It’s not about months…it’s about the whole picture of GM. You haven’t noticed how many people said they’ll have to looks elsewhere. Whether it’s trucks or sedan. O btw smart leaving the sedan market while open for foreign rivals. Thanks tho for that lesson. I’m Obviously not smart enough to be on here. I’m only..or thought I was a loyal GM guy… On my 8th GM vehicle
Frank;
I saw ads for Ct4 and CT5 several times last week.
Need to drop the 2. Ltr as the base engine, start out with the 2.5 or the 2.7. The 2 ltr is not making this car sporty .
the 2.0L LSY is not intended to make the CT5 sporty. It’s intended to serve as the base engine, deliver decent fuel economy and meet emissions standards. It does all that successfully.
The CT5’s primary rivals also have a 2.0L turbo engine as the base powerplant, including the BMW 330i, Mercedes-Benz C300, Lexus IS300, Audi A4, Infiniti Q50, Alfa Romeo Giulia, etc.
The poor Chinese market stuck with the 2.0L with less power than my 2014 ATS. Glad we at least get the 3.0L, wish they kept the CT6 400hp tune on it though!
Alex , to give gm the advantage with the models u listed I believe they all have more horsepower. I do believe the 2 sedans from Cadillac are marketed as being sporty . I don’t have so much a problem with the 2L it’s with the horsepower that’s coming out of it. My 18 equinox has 258 hp and gets 30 mpg so there’s no reason for the lower output on a Cadillac. Camaro has 315 I believe.
