Lifted 4×4 Chevy Corvair Looks Like An Absolute Riot: Video

Wheeling around in a high-dollar restomod or zillion-horsepower performance machine is all well and good, but there’s something to be said about a vehicle that’s all about fun. This lifted Chevy Corvair is definitely about fun, riding on a Jeep chassis and powered by a front-mounted Chevy Camaro engine. Now, we’re getting an inside look at this Chevy Corvair thanks to the following feature video.

The front end of a lifted 1961 Chevy Corvair.

This thing started life as a 1961 Chevy Corvair, but now, it’s more like something you’d see running down zombies in an apocalypse movie. Funny enough, the build takes a relatively practical approach – as practical as building a lifted Corvair might be, that is.

Up front, for example, the hood was cut up and modified to accommodate the massive air cleaner underneath. The whole thing exudes function over form, with faded paint and rough fitment for the body panels. There’s also a Swiss-cheese treatment for the fascia to let in some cool air for the front-mounted engine, plus a massive bull bar. Up top is a luggage rack and light bar, while a second light bar is mounted on the bar.

The whole thing is motivated by a 4×4 drivetrain, with 31-inch Radar Renegade tires in the corners. Hilariously, it is also stopping on drum brakes.

Up front, you’ll find a 305 cubic-inch V8 engine, now mounted up front rather than in the rear. The engine connects to a Turbo 350 automatic transmission. The combination of the 4×4 drivetrain, lifted chassis, and V8 makes this Chevy Corvair feel like a “mini monster truck or sandrail,” according to the owner.

The function over form strategy is repeated inside, where we find a roll cage and stripped down panels.

It’s an absolutely wild-looking ride, and is sure to get plenty of attention on the street. Check it out in the full feature video below:

  5. First time I’ve heard these guys. Sounds like they may be great in their field of expertise. But they have zero knowledge about corvairs, from start to finish. But keep up the good work in your area if expertise!
