How Many Cadillac Blackwing Sedans Is GM Building A Year?

The Cadillac Blackwing sedans are truly impressive, offering up supercar levels of performance wrapped in top-shelf four-door Cadillac luxury. No surprise then that customers are eager to get their hands on these machines, but unfortunately, GM won’t share production figures. Which begs the question – how many Cadillac Blackwing sedans is GM building a year?

Although it’s unfortunate that General Motors won’t share production numbers for the two Cadillac Blackwing sedans, it’s not exactly unexpected. After all, The General is reluctant to share production numbers for other high-profile vehicles as well, including the GMC Hummer EV and Cadillac Lyriq.

Nevertheless, GM Authority sources indicate that GM builds roughly 1,000 units of the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing a year. Additionally, we know that there are 99 examples built for each of the three Mondrian Edition Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing models, which means 297 units total towards the possible 1,000.

For those readers who may be unaware, the three Mondrian Edition packages include the Impact Edition (RPO code ZLJ), the Arrival Edition (RPO code ZKL), and the Elevation Edition (RPO code ZLR). Each of these special edition packages include a variety of aesthetic upgrades to enhance vehicle styling. Each Mondrian Edition also includes a numbered serial plaque, as GM Authority discussed previously. In addition, all CT4-V Blackwing units get V-Series 20th anniversary content for the 2024 model year, as does all 2024 CT5-V Blackwing units.

We can also take a look at the overall Cadillac CT4 sales figures and Cadillac CT5 sales figures for a better idea of the numbers in play. So far, GM has sold 7,339 units of the Cadillac CT4 in the U.S. through Q3 of the 2023 calendar year, and 14,397 units of the Cadillac CT5 in the U.S. through the same time period, or 21,736 units total between the two sedans.

From an exclusivity standpoint, about 1,000 units of the Cadillac Blackwing sedans per year fits in with these numbers:

Cadillac CT4 Sales - Q3 2023 - United States

In the United States, Cadillac CT4 deliveries totaled 1,903 units in Q3 2023, a decrease of about 26 percent compared to 2,581 units sold in Q3 2022.

  1. I think they build more CT-4BW’s than CT-5’s. And way more Escalade-V’s. I watch my dealer’s website and they sell one or two Escalade-V’s a week. They have several CT-4BW’s on the lot. And I see those disappear from their web listing maybe once/month. But the CT-5BW they do not usually have on the lot and if they get one, its gone. Even asked my sales guy about it and he confirmed the 5 is near unobtainium. All three are “turn to earn” and they turn them. I think in the case of the 5 though, there just are very few to turn.

  2. Last year an auto writer couldn’t figure out why 30K of them were unsold at the end of the year, and still on the dealership lots.

When the dealers are asking 30K + over list price, perhaps you’ll figure that out.

    1. 30K of what? There were not 30K blackwing’s produced. There are just over 30K vette’s produced in a typical year.

  3. Built slightly more than 50K corvettes for the 2023 model year. Record if the 79 model year at around 53,800. Baby boomers ate them up. I bought a L48 auto in 1987 with 20k on it and enjoyed it for 33 years with my children and grandchildren before selling it last year for slightly more than the $10,125 I had given for it. 100K or so miles later as it was my daily driver for about 15 years I sold in to an enthusiast couple for $10,750.

    1. It was a “long” year for 2023 though. Started May 23, 2022 and ran thru Sept 1, 2023. MY2022 had low numbers, 25K. I think a pretty average year for corvette is 35-40K units built.

  4. No wonder I hunted for months to get mine. I only got it because the original order was cancelled by whoever ordered it, my timing was exactly right.

  5. I have had a 5 Blackwing on order with a dealer since 2020 and GM will not give an allocation to my dealer. Extremely unfair and a horrible system. Buy a Shelby.

    1. Turn to earn is done to minimize dealer gouging. A dealer can charge a huge markup hoping to get someone to come along and buy a 5BW eventually, but if they don’t “turn” it quickly, they won’t get another. Your dealer may have gouged in the past and is paying now. Contractually gm cannot specify what the dealer charges. So turn to earn is a way to prod the dealer to charge no more than what is going to sell very quickly on hot cars. I would expect Ford does the same thing.

  6. Same here Robert Muller. I’ve had one on order for two years and the dealer is clueless as to whether it will get built or not. Pretty pitiful for a $115,000 vehicle that you’re willing to pay MSRP FOR!!

  7. What really aggravates me is GM allows large dealers to fill lot orders before fulfilling orders from paying customers with a deposit on their order. This is just plain wrong. SHAME on GM.

  8. My dealer makes comments like “ I can’t even get one for myself “. In my opinion, he should be working harder on trying to place one of these in his market (mine) rather than hoarding one to put away or sell to another party somewhere in the universe.

  9. I have owned 4 blackwings since their inception as the current lineup (4, 5 and Escalade). I had to purchase each of them in different states. GA, NV and 2 from a dealer in NE OH. The two that I have kept are the CT5BW. I accepted delivery of a ‘22 MY in July 2022 unit number 513, which I believe was manufactured in May ‘22. I have also purchased a ‘23 that was manufactured in October ‘22 unit number 235. It arrived at the dealer in Feb 23 and sat till April 23 as the dealer was asking $15K over sticker. I traded in my 22 CT4BWBW based on a like trade in purchase I indicated I would not pay a cent over MSRP. I made the deal in April of ‘23 and took delivery in May ‘23. Based on the earlier comments, I know there are many more 4BWs and EscBWs in circulation versus the 5BWs. I also know there were major carbon fiber constraints with GMs supplier during ‘22 that spilled over in the ‘23 model year. So if you had the carbon fiber options on a build that may be one of the reasons the “general” has never started production or assigned production to a CT5 BW. I understand GM had an easier time sourcing CT4BW carbon fiber. Not sure the reason or details behind that. I can tell you I have established relationships with dealers since the start of my BW journey in September of ‘22. I have purchased two from the same dealership, first a CT4BW in OCT ‘21 and that was a low build number 110-130. I believe due to Covid supply chain issues not many more than 650-750 CT5BWs were produced in 2022. For 2023 l believe that number was higher and likely 1000-1100. These numbers are are based on only my limited knowledge of GMs Lansing Grand River Assembly production schedule, my previous knowledge of Lordstown assembly timelines and pachard electric production scheduling through about 2005. I know a lot has changed since then, but though lt I would share. I would be happy to try and assist anyone purchase a BW of their fancy based on my experience and history with these marvels of modern engineering. You cannot get a better vehicle in the CT5BW in my humble opinion. The other two (CT4BW and EscBW) are both excellent vehicles. My only gripe is the missing small block V-8 in the CT4BW and the $150K++++price of the EscBW. You cannot own a more fun driving the manual in a CT4BW or CT5BW. The two CT5BWs I own are both manual and I enjoy the hell out of them. If you would have told me in 2000 when I started my Cadillac journey that in 2023 Cadillac would have two models with manual transmissions and the Corvettes would only offer automatic options I would have told you Bruce Jenner would still be a man.

  11. I bought a CT 4 luxury premium Cadillac from a dealership in St. Peter’s Mo.. I have never had a Cadillac prior. I have presently 3,006 miles on it paid 47,000 cash deal with a gm discount. When I called there was a CT 5 exactly like my 2014 Cadillac. The dealership offered me $ 36,000 for it I had 2400 miles on it. I wanted a red CT 5 Cadillac. Well I’m disappointed as this vehicle listed for 50,900 dollars. And there is a spot on leather passenger seat where you can see white through the saddle color I leather interior heated seat all upgrades. This is unacceptable to me . Plus an insult to me.

  12. I purchased a 24 CT4-V Blackwing Arrival Edition online 12-22-23 out of Schaumburg Illinois. It went smoothly and I got $5075 off MSRP which was ($89075) . I also did the GM financing for the $3k rebate. Manual trans of course adrenaline red interior and a couple more options . Amazing car it just goes in all 6 gears!! This site keeps saying 99 of each built which is incorrect there are 99 of each in the IMSA series. The Mondrian series is 66 of each I have #8 hopefully it will make $$ someday!! My suggestion is shop the country get dealers in a bud war I did. The 1st dealer I had contacted was In Henderson Nv back in August 2023 and he wanted $20k over. It’s funny how then 4 months later that same store went down to $3500 under MSRP. These are out there still but after the 66 there gone!!
