Here’s When 2024 Chevy Colorado Production Will Now Start

A new date has been set for the start of regular production (SORP) of the 2024 Chevy Colorado pickup truck, GM Authority has learned, following several other revisions of the starting date that saw it pushed back repeatedly in the wake of UAW strike disruptions.

Production of the 2023 Chevy Colorado will stop on December 13th, 2023, ahead of production kicking off for the 2024 Chevy Colorado, meaning the 2023 model year continued to come off the assembly line longer than originally planned as well.

The truck now has its SORP scheduled for the week of December 18th. This date is tentative and subject to change.

The General originally intended for 2024 Chevy Colorado production to begin on October 30th, 2023. This scheduling was combined with a plan to open orders through Chevy dealerships during the week of August 24th and for retail order processing to kick off on the week of September 28th, 2023.

However, since the UAW chose the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri where the Chevy Colorado is produced as its first strike target, The General revised the truck’s production start date to December 11th, 2023, which has now been delayed ahead and moved forward another week.

The 2024 Chevy Colorado introduces only a few changes and updates from the 2023 model year, which debuted the third Colorado generation with a complete overhaul. One significant change for the 2024 Colorado is the introduction of the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison, outfitted with rugged off-road equipment and technologies.

The ZR2 Bison gives off-road fans a hard-charging cross-country option, boasting 12.2 inches of ground clearance, a 38.2-degree approach angle, 26-degree departure angle, and 26.9-degree breakover angle. The Bison takes the trail-ready characteristics of the Colorado ZR2 to the next level. Concurrently, the Desert Boss Special Edition package (RPO code ZDB) offered for the 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 have been dropped for the 2024 model year.

As a reminder, the 2023 model year offered three powerplants, including the Turbo 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine developing 237 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, the Turbo Plus 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine providing 310 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque, and the Turbo High-Output 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine supplying 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.

Now, with deletion of the mid-level Turbo Plus 2.7L I4 L3B engine, the 2024 Chevy Colorado offers only two engine options, namely the Turbo 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine and the Turbo High-Output 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine. Alongside these changes the 2024 Colorado now adopts the GM TurboMax engine branding for the L3B engine.

  1. So I called dealership today on a 2023 Colorado I ordered six months ago and dealership said the order was canceled, two weeks ago it was inline to be built. Said I’d be first inline when they got there allocation. Tomorrow will be my first time to price out a 2024 ford ranger. GM need’s to start cleaning house or they’ll need another federal bailout

    1. Clean house? Did you not hear about the GM strike which affected the Colorado Plant the most? It sucks for you and some others but you know a Ranger doesn’t compare to a Colorado. As soon as the ‘24 Colorado’s are out, you’ll definitely regret buying a ford ranger.

  5. I will believe it when I see it. GM has gone down hill in management. Its now trickled down through the whole company. To the point of their schedules cant be trusted. Might as well wait and see the Toyota. Quit with the excuses and start producing vechicles again.
