GM Will Not Make Chevy Blazer EV In Right Hand Drive: Exclusive

General Motors is eyeing an expansion to its overseas business, and that includes right-hand-drive (RHD) markets like Japan, the U.K., Australia, and more. As such, GM is preparing to offer a series of RHD models – in fact, Chevy is already offering the C8 Corvette in a RHD configuration. With that in mind, it may come as a surprise to learn that GM will not offer the all-new Chevy Blazer EV in a RHD configuration, per GM Authority sources.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the Chevy Blazer EV will be available exclusively in left-hand drive (LHD). It’s a somewhat surprising turn of events given the Cadillac Lyriq, which rides on the closest version of the Chevy Blazer EV’s BEV3 platform, will be available in RHD, as GM Authority was the first to report in October. Cadillac later confirmed in November that a RHD variant of the Cadillac Lyriq was planned for sale in the Australian and New Zealand markets. GM Authority has also spotted a prototype RHD variant of the Cadillac Lyriq testing in Michigan.

“Cadillac is experiencing great sales momentum thanks to our strong product portfolio – and we are now expanding our business globally,” said Vice President, Global Cadillac, John Roth, in November. “The introduction of a right-hand-drive Lyriq will enable new opportunities in important markets where EV adoption is strong.”

Right-hand-drive variants of the Lyriq are also planned for sale in Japan by the 2025 calendar year. Further expansion into other RHD markets, such as the U.K. and Ireland, could be in the cards as well.

In 2022, GM CEO Mary Barra indicated that The General was poised to return to the European market.

Looking back even further to 2021, the first 2022 Corvette C8 Stingray rolled off the production line at the GM Bowling Green plant in Kentucky. Meanwhile, models like the Chevy Silverado 1500 and Silverado HD are converted to RHD by GMSV for sale in Australia and New Zealand.

That all said, it looks as though the Chevy Blazer EV will remain exclusively LHD, at least for the time being.

  1. I don’t care to use my tax dollars to subsidize someone else’s vehicle.

  2. Producing vehicles in RHD presents no issues for Korean, Japanese and certainly not the emerging Chinese manufacturers for vehicles sold in Australia and NZ.
American manufacturers did in past dominate the “down under” markets however have given that all away. Very very poor…….

  3. Plot twist: They won’t make them in LHD either, at least for a while, with all the quality issues…

    1. Yep, there’s a stop sale on them with lots of software issues. GM’s execution, especially as it relates to their much hyped EV launches has not been very good.

There have been plenty of unforced errors with ICE products as well considering most are relatively modest updates. That falls mainly on the operations side of business with Reuss and his team.

      1. GM can’t even paint their cars consistently or align body panels (from personal experience and forum comments). Building an EV is a real stretch for them.
