GM sports car sales decreased in the United States and Mexico but increased in Canada during the third quarter of 2023.
GM sports car sales are comprised of the Chevy Camaro muscle/sports car in either coupe or soft-top convertible body styles, as well as the Chevy Corvette coupe and hard-top convertible.

Interestingly enough, sales of the Camaro and Corvette were not that far apart despite being vastly different vehicles and competing in very different segments. That said, the Vette did end up outselling the Camaro. The difference is telling when reviewing sales in their respective spaces, below.

The expanded mainstream two-door sports car segment shrank 15 percent to 33,506 units during Q3 2023, meaning Camaro sales outperformed the segment average in this expanded segment.
Meanwhile, sales of the Chevy Corvette continued to dominate the premium sports car segment (of 11 entries) during the third quarter of 2023 when ranked by sales volume, as they have for over a dozen years now since we started tracking Corvette sales.
That said, many of the segment contenders cost significantly more than Chevy’s mid-engine sports car and, as a result, these higher-priced rivals typically see lower sales volumes. But that price difference is steadily shrinking, especially as pricing for the Corvette C8 Z06 and first-ever Corvette C8 E-Ray start at over $100K.

Looking Ahead
While the last Camaro has been built due to faltering sales and notable missteps, plus GM’s (relatively aggressive) strategy to go fully electric by 2035, the Corvette continues to take off as GM adds more C8 variants and expand the model’s availability around the world.
About Chevrolet Camaro
The 2024 Chevy Camaro was the ninth and final model year of the current, sixth generation, introducing a pair of special-edition models in the process: the 2024 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Garage 56 Edition, and the 2024 Chevy Camaro Collector’s Edition, both of which offer their own unique content and varying levels of exclusivity to pay homage to the first-gen Camaro’s internal program code – “Panther.”
While the Collector’s Edition was offered on all trim levels, only the ZL1 is offered with the Panther Black Matte paint, the first matte paint option ever offered on the Camaro.
A boatload of other changes for the 2024 Camaro include dropping two paint colors, the Shock and Steel Edition package, the lowered suspension package and the sway bar package, the 20-Inch Caliente wheels, the base 1LS trim level, and the turbo 2.0L LTGÂ engine. Additionally, the 2024 Camaro SS 1LE Suspension Handling Package is no longer available while the full SS 1LE Track Performance Package remains available to order.
Check out all the 2024 Camaro updates and changes.
Final units of the Camaro Convertible were produced on November 22nd and the last Camaro Coupe was built on December 14th, bringing production of the muscle car’s sixth generation to an end with no ICE successor in the works, thereby marking the permanent sunsetting of the Bow Tie brand’s muscle car – for now.
In March, GM slyly confirmed a next-generation Chevy Camaro will eventually be introduced to keep the nameplate alive. Global Chevrolet vice president Scott Bell stated “While we are not announcing an immediate successor today, rest assured, this is not the end of Camaro’s story.”
Most recently, a Chevrolet spokesperson provided a statement about the end of 2024 Chevy Camaro production and that of the Camaro overall. “Camaro is a passion product,” noting that “it has developed a fan base across the world and has brought people into Chevrolet dealerships for generations.”
In summary, “the sixth generation specifically represented athleticism and composure – exuding confidence on the road and dominance on the track.”
As we savor the Collector’s Edition along with many others, we eagerly anticipate what GM delivers for the next-generation of the Bow Tie brand’s muscle car, one with such a rich history that is dear to fans across generations.
We speculate that the Camaro name may not be applied to a single vehicle model, but to a broader EV sub-brand. Some of the models in this sub-brand would likely resemble the familiar Camaro with coupe and convertible variants, while others may be sporty two-door and four-door crossover SUVs, with a mid-priced sports car as the brand flagship.
About Chevrolet Corvette
The 2024 Chevy Corvette is offered in three variants – the C8 Stingray, C8 Z06, and first-ever C8 E-Ray. It adds new active safety tech to its features list to bring it more in line with other Bow Tie brand models, including Automatic Emergency Braking and standard IntelliBeam automatic high-beam headlamps as well as Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Warning.
The 2024 Corvette also gets new driver mode selection animations along with a new infotainment system that incorporates Google built-in features.
Additionally, the 2024 Corvette Stingray drops two alloy wheel choices, replacing them with new designs. Check out all the 2024 Corvette wheel options. Furthermore, the 2024 Corvette gets a new Edge Red painted rear fascia script LPO-level option.
Furthermore, the Stingray’s M1L transmission gets a case design update and, critically, will no longer require two extra quarts of transmission fluid for track use. It should be noted that GM does not condone tracking M1L-equipped vehicles without the Z51 package.
At the beginning of the year, GM debuted the first-ever 2024 Chevy Corvette E-Ray, featuring the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 engine from the Stingray mated to an electric motor mounted up front. The E-Ray is also the first-ever production Corvette equipped with front-wheel drive and all-wheel-drive traction.
That combination also makes the E-Ray the fastest Corvette ever to 60, with a 0-to-60 mph time of just 2.5 seconds, a tenth of a second quicker than that of the C8 Z06.
The Corvette Z06 features the 5.5L V8 LT6 gasoline engine, a race-bred, naturally aspirated, dual-overhead cam, flat-plane-crank powerplant.
Accolades for the C8 Corvette continue to roll in.
The Corvette E-Ray made NACTOY’s “Best of 2024” list, being among the 25 vehicles advancing to the finalist round of the 30th annual North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards. Additionally, the Corvette Convertible won Strategic Vision’s 2023 Total Quality Impact award.
Furthermore, the Corvette Z06 fared well in the Car and Driver 0-150-0 MPH Test and the Chevy Corvette, Corvette E-Ray won their 2024 10Best Award. Finally, a new study finds that the Chevy Corvette also holds its value well.
According to a J.D. Power Study, the Chevy Corvette has a great multimedia system. But the 2025 Corvette C8 refresh will bring noteworthy changes to interior, with the biggest change expected to be the deletion of the HVAC controls found along the large center divider between the two seats.
Once Z06 production is higher than the current, highly constrained levels, and the E-Ray has finally launched, Chevy will launch the 2025 Chevy Corvette ZR1. It’s expected to be powered by a boosted variant of the 5.5 V8 LT6 engine found in the Z06, raising raise the performance bar even higher. Our spies spotted a 2025 Corvette ZR1 prototype testing on the Nurburgring, revealing differences between the ZR1 and Z06 with the Z07 package, as well as sporting a new wheel design.

Comments
No surprise…
Takes forever to get a Corvette and it quickly gets expensive (….plus dealer mark-up).
Camaro is dead.
SUV’s, CUV’s and Trucks with badges and stickers are not sports cars.
They left the Camaro for dead years ago. Didn’t promote it at all and couldn’t wait to kill it in a short production year. Meanwhile, Mustang available througe 2028 model year and new Dodge muscle car in development may be produced ICE or EV. Little gm never learns. Love the 2017 Camaro RS V6 A8 (Flush corrected shutter) we bought my son new in 2018 with $6200 off sticker. Anyone remember those days?
Duh! Corvette is all they make and it has a very limited market. GM did this to themselves.
What a farce of an article………I ordered a 2024 LT1 6 speed convertible in early August and it never got built……..long time Chevrolet fan and own a number of them right now that I purchased new…….4 V6 models showed up at the dealer that are dealer stock just recently…….they never got an allocation for a V8………how many sold orders were left unfilled? Very depressing for a long time Chevrolet Big Time fan…….
why is general motors catering to foreign countrys when they cannot supply there old stand by customers in north america
It’s GM’s fault Corvette sales are down and it is only going to get worse. They can’t fulfill the orders and keep adding new models to the production line, the C8, Z06, E-Ray, ZR51 in 2025 and Zora in 2026. I waited over 2.5 years for a Z06 and had them return my deposit. I am on the E-Ray list for 10 months. My dealer told me, if I am lucky I may get it in 2025. The Bowling Green facility is old and is maxed out. With the brand continuing to expand, you would think GM would invest in building an additional production facility for the Corvette. But no, they continue to invest in EVs which they are learning the hard way is going to end up a poor investment. The article states the 2024 Corvette is getting the Google infotainment system? I was told CarPlay was still going to be available for the Corvette. If CarPlay is being removed or not an option for the Corvette it is going to upset a lot of potential buyers and likely will be a dealbreaker for me. It’s evident GM is not surveying customers or performing their research. With all the negative GM comments lately, it’s just a matter of time their market share/sales are going to continue to decline.
Sales cannot increase if you don’t get the product out for the customer to purchase. We’re so glad we got our last SS Camaro (2022) & it took several months for it to get built, & longer to get delivered. I’d have like to have waited & gotten a 2023 as it sounded like at the time there would be no 2024 Camaro, but glad we didn’t wait was this year has for sure been a cluster$$$$ for the Camaro production numbers.
