For select units of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 and Sierra HD, General Motors has issued a Customer Satisfaction Program over a problem with a split roof panel on the passenger side.
Certain 2024 Sierra 1500 and Sierra HD units may have a condition where the roof panel on the passenger’s side may split, thus requiring immediate attention. Certified GM technicians are to inspect the passenger-side roof panel and MIG weld the split panel as necessary.
It’s worth noting that The General has implemented a stop delivery order for affected Sierra units. Not until the service procedure has been performed will the vehicle be released from stop delivery and be delivered to the customer.
General Motors estimates that there is a total of 3,067 units covered under this Customer Satisfaction Program, which also rounds up 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 and Silverado HD pickups. Notably, it should take GM techs roughly 10 hours to complete this procedure.
As a reminder, the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is available with a bevy of powerplant choices, including the TurboMax turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
The 2024 GMC Sierra HD is available with either the 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine that develops 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, or the optional 6.6L V8 L5P turbo-diesel Duramax that belts out 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet.
Under the body panels, the GMC Sierra rides on the GM T1 platform – which it shares with the Chevy Silverado. Production of the 2024 model year of Big Red’s light-duty pickup truck kicked off in July 2023 at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and GM Silao plant in Mexico, while production of the 2024 model-year Sierra HD started in March 2023 at the GM Flint plant in Michigan.

WUT? I thought this story was about the roof separating!?
“Oh, yeah, yeah; sorry – We’ll talk about the body…”

Just like the last 5 1/2 years? Gee, thanks!
Gmauthority only hires the biggest boobs to write these articles. Right now they’re working on December full-size van incentives to be published on the 31st.
GM Authority is 2 days late with this one. And offering nothing new. As the other commenter noted, the article contains a lot of irrelevant material. Engine sizes? Who cares? I want to know why the roofs are splitting, and on what specific models. The drawing shows what appears to be an extended cab. But nothing as to the source of the issue. A tear is the result of a poor stamping and stress. Having ordered a 3500HD PRO that was built last month, I will be confirming it isn’t one of the 3000+ units. No way am I accepting a truck that has had structural repair before I even take delivery. No way the paint can be matched. I’ve asked the dealer to determine if my order is impacted. WTF, GM? And here I thought Ford was the f*ckup!
These trucks are already out of control in pricing and now GM wants to do that type of hack job on a fix?? LMFAO!!!
Also, this is what happens when automobile manufacturers make their trucks paper thin to save on weight!!
My 1998 C/K with 248k miles on it (my sons car now), still runs strong and has absolutely no problems with the roof. It’s also been through a hail storm and fully repaired by PDR.
I am thinking they are going to re-weld it and re-paint the roof.
They are only new once, there should be added compensation.
Dealer welding and repainting rhe roof of my new truck! Not ever. Should be a salvage title. What is gm thinking?
Looks like a missed weld(s) and or sealer.
I wonder how it prefers on a roof crush test, FMVSS 216.
Article states Passenger Side but illustration of fix looks like Driver Side???
Can’t GM get ANYTHING right ??? This is poor quality control at the design level.
Same assembly line same stamping as Silverado.
Two Stories.
If you have a sun roof they will tack weld that to……lol gm
What about all of the factory rust proofing, This is disaster in the making, the heat burns off all the factory rust protection. GM should be embarrassed. These trucks will never be the same, all of the heat from the MIG weld will make it brittle. No way. My 2022 Denali HD was a far better built truck than my 24, I am very disappointed, rattles, leaks, and to be honest, I don’t want the dealer techs touching it, it always comes back worst for the experience. 100K for what.
Keep bringing it in hopefully it will become lemon law eligible.
How about their example photo of the weld? It looks like a kid shot it with hot splatter
I like the GM calls it the Customer Satisfaction Program. LMAO
