GM Releases Fix For 2023 GMC Canyon Fuel Injector Issue

The 2023 GMC Canyon is included in a new service bulletin issued by GM issued that describes a fix for an incorrectly calibrated engine control module (ECM) that may not properly control the fuel injector flow rate in the pickup truck’s engine under certain circumstances.

Engine function can potentially be affected if the ECM problem is not corrected, as the module may insufficiently control the 2023 GMC Canyon fuel injector’s flow rate during specific types of driving.

The issue affects 2023 GMC Canyon trucks motivated by the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, which is the exclusive engine choice for this model year. The L3B is offered on the Canyon in the top-rated High Output tune developing 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.

GM instructs its dealerships to apply the fix to all affected units of the 2023 GMC Canyon, whether they are currently in dealer inventory or are customer-owned trucks brought in for service or other reasons. However, involvement in the service update should be confirmed with the GM Global Warranty Management system, with affected trucks labeled “Open” on the Investigate Vehicle History screen.

The fix is a straightforward process that involves reprogramming the affected 2023 GMC Canyon truck’s engine control module with the available updated configuration. No components are needed to carry out this remedy. The whole reprogramming process takes about 30 minutes to complete by The General’s estimate.

The fix is available to current 2023 Canyon owners free of charge. It is no longer offered after the expiration of the truck’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty period.

    1. What was your mpg before the flash? Mine hasn’t been flashed and I have yet to get over 19mpg, hand-calculated. Generally, 18-18.5. Mostly city/highway mix, pure highway is actually at the lower end of the spectrum, sometimes less than 18 (we have 80mph turnpikes around here).
