GM Releases Fix For 2023 Chevy Colorado Fuel Injector Issue

GM has issued a service update detailing a fix that is now available for 2023 Chevy Colorado pickup trucks affected by an engine control module (ECM) fault that can result in incorrect fuel injector flow.

When unrepaired, the ECM problem can lead to improper fuel injector flow rate control during certain types of driving, potentially leading to issues with the running of the engine in affected 2023 Chevy Colorados.

The ECM fault affects 2023 Chevy Colorado trucks equipped with the the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine and the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine in Turbo Plus tune.

GM instructs dealers to check for a Colorado unit’s inclusion in the service update before servicing the vehicle. Affected trucks are marked “Open” on the Investigate Vehicle History screen, which is accessible through The General’s Global Warranty Management system. The fix is to be applied both to 2023 Chevy Colorado units currently in dealership inventory and those brought in by customers for any reason.

The repair requires no parts. Instead, it’s carried out by reprogramming the engine control module with the correct fuel injector flow rate. Reprogramming and calibrating the ECM requires about half an hour of labor time in total.

The fix is offered free of charge to owners of affected 2023 Chevy Colorado trucks. It is available until the end of the pickup’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty period, after which this service bulletin expires.

  1. Just had this done yesterday, wasn’t aware I had a problem in the first place but they performed it while the truck was in for oil change and infotainment flash. I’ll need to go for a drive to see if I notice a difference.

  2. Please let us know, as local dealer just says bring it in, we’ll check it.

  3. Can’t understand the reason GM is having so many problems with the 2023 Colorado/Canyon. Battery drain, Dented cab from car wash, Fuel injector program issues, etc. I thought this was a proven engine and drive train in the larger trucks. Poor QA? Still waiting fro my 23. It’s built, on hold. Hope it doesn’t live in the dealer service center.

    1. I waited 10 months to get mine. It’s a bunch of nonsense

  4. Have a new 2023 setting at dealership waiting for me to pick up and call salesman to see if mine had been taken care of and he knew nothing about a recall on the ECM. Said he would check into it

  5. Nice,
Poor communication on GM’s part. But it is not just GM,
I work for a company for 28 years , soon to retire and we lack communication between Marketing and Technical and production and it will never change, —It’s the new Norm.
Still waiting for my 2023 ZR2 NITRO Yellow , told it is on hold, built built. got Vin . Hopefully it is not a Lemon and has all the updates.

  6. I took my 23 Canyon in for a oil change and they did the service update 1/23. Fuel injector flow rate control and a ECM reprogram.
I noticed right away the engine was running smoother but feels like they lowered the turbo boost, . It’s been 5 days now , whatever they changed, took it from a fun to drive engine to a docile engine with considerable less power. This is not acceptable and will be going back to the dealer for answers.

  7. I am finally picking up my 2023 ZR2 from the dealer tomorrow as it arrived on Friday. I will not know the difference you explain, but now I am concerned. I was shocked that the window sticker states 16mpg city/16mpg highway. When did they revise that? I better get more than 16 highway. I bet the fuel injector reprogram is for fuel consumption.

    1. The ZR2 is at least 500lbs heavier. The only reason I got the Denali instead of the AT4X (and not available at the time). 16MPG is tough for a small truck. And jumping on the turbo, probably less. My ’17 Tundra Crew Cab with big meats was getting 14-15 mpg frwy.

  8. On my Canyon Elevation I’ve been getting 19.7 average. ( has the 310 hp ) turbo plus tune.

  9. I went to the dealer and told them with the new fuel injection and ecm reset caused the engine to loose power and asked if they could reset everything back to original tune. They at first tried to reload the new update and was not able to because it was a partial update(whatever that meant). So he said they did a global reset back to the original spec.
Yes!! the power is back!! huge difference!

    1. I seem to notice the same issue. The vehicle was a little quieter and smoother driving. But acceleration appears to be an issue. Doesn’t jump like it did when you give it gas. But don’t know if my dealer will return it to it’s prior state like yours did. Still testing it now. Called GM about it this morning and they listed my issue with vin number. But doesn’t mean it will be looked at immediately. They told me to take it back to the dealer so a tech could check it. Totally different feel to driving now.

  10. Took mine in for an oil change / tire rotation and was notified of the recall. Engine feels smoother and possible a little better gas mileage. I haven’t noticed any lack of power.
