General Motors has announced that GM Defense and Jankel – a British manufacturer of high-specification defense systems – have reached a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that establishes a framework to jointly explore business opportunities for defense and government customers.
More specifically, these business opportunities relate to GM Defense mobility solutions, including the Heavy-Duty Sport Utility Vehicle (HD SUV) international variant called the Integrated Armored Vehicle (IAV). This collaboration will support work based in the United States, as well as the United Kingdom and throughout Europe.
“GM Defense is looking forward to collaborating with Jankel, who can help support mobility solutions such as the HD SUV and IAV,” GM Defense President Steve duMont stated. “Aligning our capabilities with companies like Jankel, who have a proven track record among global defense and government customers, is important as GM Defense seeks to meet the needs of the UK Ministry of Defense’s Land Industrial Strategy and to help modernize the mobility platforms of our allies.”
In regard to the aforementioned HD SUV, GM Defense has specifically designed these vehicles that allow for high levels of configuration to better suit the customer’s need. In fact, the armor itself is built into the design of the mobility solution.
“Announcing this MOU is a key step for Jankel as we continue to grow our global footprint in the defense and security vehicle space,” Jankel Chairman Andrew Jankel claimed in a prepared statement. “In selecting Jankel, GM Defense has recognized our strong position in the UK and Europe, and we look forward to pursuing joint support opportunities for GM Defense’s IAV. Whilst our initial focus will be on support for the IAV, the collaboration allows for a broadening of the scope to include other GM Defense products and services provided we find suitable joint opportunities. We very much look forward to growing this important relationship.”
As far as Jankel’s contributions to this partnership go, the company is a leading global supplier of Civilian Armored Vehicles that provide defense and security to customers. In addition, Jankel has delivered over 2,000 specialist protected platforms to more than 15 global customers, including the United Kingdom, Europe and around the globe.
