GM Canada Donates $168,000 To Durham Childen’s Aid Foundation

The Durham Children’s Aid Foundation (DCAF) received total donations today as GM Canada and its dealerships got into the holiday spirit, with both gifts and monetary donations included in the total.

Earmarked for the DCAF Holiday Hope program, the Yuletide contributions consisted of $95,250 from The General’s network of dealerships across the snowy northern country and some $73,000 from GM Canada itself, according to the press release.

Dealerships were given an extra incentive this year to contribute generously to the fund. Dealers who gave to DCAF received entries in a contest to win the right to purchase the final Canadian 2024 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Collector Edition muscle car for their lot. Go North Surrey GM in Surrey, British Columbia is the winning dealership out of the 80 participants.

Bob Hewitt, the owner of the Go North dealership, said he is “thrilled to bring the last Camaro ZL1 built for Canada to Go North Surrey and we have special plans for this iconic vehicle.” He also expressed his gratitude for “the opportunity to pay it forward and support a cause as worthy” as the DCAF.

As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Collector Edition features an exclusive Panther Black Matte (paint code GNW) exterior paint job accented by a Mosaic Black Metallic front splitter and grille and a Black Metallic center stripe. Other details include but are not limited to standard 20-inch Dark Graphite premium wheels, a Collector Edition visible weave carbon fiber spoiler (RPO code T42) and unique badging.

As for the DCAF donation, the tradition started at the GM Oshawa Assembly plant in 1963 with a holiday gift program for needy kids called Sharon’s Kids after its founder Sharon Clark. The DCAF executive director Julie Van Hartingsveldt said 2023’s contributions will “have a meaningful impact on the lives of over 1,000 children and youth living in vulnerable family situations.”

GM Canada president Marissa West said she is “proud of our generous employees and dealers who came together to support this program that began 55 years ago” and remarked that the donations are “making the holidays brighter for kids and families in the Durham Region.”
