Garage Fire Destroys 1968 Chevy Camaro In Florida

A classic 1968 Chevy Camaro Convertible was destroyed in a garage fire this past weekend. Luckily, no injuries were reported. The classic Chevy Camaro, however, looks as though it’s now toast.

According to a report from Orlando News, the fire occurred in West Orange County the weekend before Christmas. The report indicates that Orange County Fire Rescue responded to a house fire on Saturday, December 23rd, in the 500 block of Macchi Avenue in Oakland, and upon arrival found that the fire had spread through the garage.

Luckily, firefighters contained the blaze to the garage area and managed to prevent it from spreading to the rest of the house. The exact cause of the fire is unknown. No injuries were reported, but the classic Chevy Camaro parked in the garage was destroyed.

The report does not indicate the exact model of the Chevy Camaro, but judging by the photos, the vehicle appears to be a 1968 Chevy Camaro SS Convertible.

The photos reveal burns and smoke damage across the top of the garage along the exterior of the house, while inside the garage, the roof appears as though it is sagging down, with debris scattered across the floor.

As for the car, the convertible roof looks as though it was completely engulfed in flames, while pieces of the garage roof look as though they have fallen into the cabin of the Chevy Camaro. The interior of the Camaro is no doubt utterly destroyed, although photos of the cabin were not readily available.

That all said, it’s possible that some of the sheet metal and some of the mechanical components could be reused in rebuilding the classic droptop. While the fire was no doubt devastating for the family, we hope that the vehicle owners can at least salvage some of the material goods in the garage, including pieces of the Chevy Camaro.

Obviously by the condition of the car it was not the source of the fire.

  11. Certainly looks salvageable to me considering all of the repro parts available for early Camaros. Some original parts will need to be sourced but they’re out there. Most of the heat/fire was above the car. The tires aren’t even flat.
