Passing traffic on a two-lane highway can be particularly dangerous, even on a straight road with decent visibility. It’s the sort of situation where a head-on collision becomes much more likely, and the resulting crash can be extremely deadly. Luckily, the driver of of the Chevy Sonic featured in the following brief video narrowly avoided such a fate.
Coming to us from social media, the video appears as though it was captured by the dash cam of another motorist, and according to the video overlay, the incident occurred on December 16th, 2023, around quarter-to-ten in the morning. Per the social media post, the road featured in the video is U.S. 395, heading to Lake Tahoe.
In the video, we see a lonely stretch of two-lane highway stretching out straight towards the horizon. The car with the dash cam is seen cruising at the speed limit, with blue skies above and clear, dry pavement below. In the adjacent lane, we see a semi truck approaching, the trailer behind it rising as the truck goes up a small hill. Suddenly, a small white Chevy Sonic is seen next to the semi-truck, headed straight for the oncoming camera vehicle.
As the Chevy Sonic crests the hill, the Sonic driver dives towards the outside shoulder, while the driver behind the wheel of the semi does the same in the opposite direction. The two vehicles part, creating a clear path through the middle for the oncoming vehicle to pass through.
It’s a harrowing moment, and if all drivers involved weren’t paying attention, it could have resulted in a very nasty wreck. It should also be noted that the driver behind the wheel of the Chevy Sonic opted to pass the semi-truck across a solid yellow, although the other lane does appear to allow passing in that particular stretch.

Sonic should only attempt a pass when going downhill, with the wind.
…and several miles of clear road ahead.
The truck driver did exactly the right thing. Slow down and move to the right shoulder. The Sonic should have squeezed by him within the cleared lane, not head for the left shoulder. The dashcam car should have headed for the right shoulder and slowed down. The Sonic driver doesn’t have the slightest idea of what he is doing.
This ^ all day and twice on Sunday.
“extremely deadly” …
As opposed to “lightly or moderately deadly” .
Driving without a clue. Unfortunately this clown will probably get someone killed before his/her driving career is over. Hopefully it will be a single car accident.
The semi driver did a great job…he was paying attention and made the right move (no pun intended). Glad that the goof in the Sonic had sense enough to go to the shoulder and stay on it. All were blessed and fortunate.
There is no difference between deadly and extremely deadly. YOU ARE STILL DEAD!
This is because driving and having a license is no longer a privilege it is now considered a right and a revenue raiser
