Cadillac Lyriq Has Heated Windshield Wipers: Feature Spotlight

One feature that GM Authority has been wishing for in a General Motors product since 2011 are heated windshield wipers, a feature that helps tremendously in cold climates where the wipers have the potential to freeze and get stuck to the windshield. Now, after more than a decade of wishing, The General finally made our wish come true with the Cadillac Lyriq.

As the first GM vehicle to boast this feature this decade, the Lyriq’s windshield wipers themselves are actually not heated. Instead, the base of the windshield – where the wipers “hide” when not in use – is heated thanks to a defroster, not unlike those found on the rear window of most vehicles. This defroster allows the Lyriq’s wiper blades to remain warm, while also melting any snow or ice that can accumulate in the area, thereby preventing any obstructions in their path.

The heated windshield wiper base feature (RPO code CMO) was first introduced for the 2023 model year on both Lyriq Luxury RWD and AWD models. For the 2024 model year, the feature can be found across the entire Lyriq trim lineup.

As a reminder, the current 2024 Cadillac Lyriq brings a few noteworthy changes and updates, including the new Tech trim level, which serves as the entry-level model for the electric crossover. Pricing starts right around $60,000.

In regard to output, rear-drive models feature a single motor mounted on the rear axle, rated at 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the Lyriq AWD is equipped with a pair of electric motors – one on each axle – that produce a combined 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. Both models feature GM Ultium battery and GM Ultium Drive motor technology.

As for range figures, the RWD variant boasts 314 miles from a full charge, while the AWD version is rated at 307 miles.

Under the body panels, the battery electric luxury crossover SUV rides on the GM BEV3 platform. Production of the 2024 model year kicked off at the GM Spring Hill plant in May 2023.

  1. Probably a necessity. Since EV’s don’t use waste heat to run a normal windshield defroster you probably have to. Sort of like heated seats and steering wheel. No waste heat means cabin temps are frigid. It is probably may favorite feature of an ICE car in winter. A toasty 80-85 degree cabin driving without a coat.

    1. You must live in a place like southern AZ. and use to a climate that gets over 100 regularly.
At 80-85 I would be sweating naked.

  2. Gee, I wonder how all these added heaters reduce range. Oh, let’s not talk about that, let’s all pretend that that does not happen.

    1. Not much. Compare the park area to the 10 times larger rear window defogger.

      1. You just don’t get it. The point is EVs keep adding more items being heated and that will reduce range. Cold weather has proven to reduce up to 50% range

        1. That’s an old Bromide that has nothing to do with the Lyriq Ev.

There must be someplace where you can convince the uninitiated that you should be listened to.

There are plenty of things wrong with my newish Lyriq. Heated wiper parking isn’t one of them.

Biggest problem is it’s a GM. Unfortunately most of the other brands are so much worse. Being a GM in another sense is one of its best attributes, but I’ve gone through this all before, and much of the time Luft deletes the comment.

    2. I need heated side windows, door handles, step-in, door lock and window buttons, key fob and start button please. Oh, and heated seat belts including release button. Did I miss anything? Heated tires so I don’t get stuck in the snow perhaps.

      1. Congratulations Thomas on making the most dopey comment here.

  3. All positive comments when a 100%ICE vehicle has heated wipers even though the price of added gasoline usage is at least double what it would be on a bev.

    1. What you are too dumb to realize is that as soon as the Domberats push for EVs to grow in popularization. The price of electricity will double and then triple. You can take that to the bank.

  4. Oh heck! Lay off the beers man. Your comments are getting silly at this point.

I usually charge my 3 plugins at 120 volts in the garage overnight. My house has its original 100 amp service which I’ve only refurbished slightly to keep everything in good repair.

The 3 cars use just under 3,000 watts or basically the same loading as 2 portable room heaters which many people with 100% ice vehicles use to avoid cold spots in their homes in the winter time. Since natural gas is much cheaper, almost all my heating requirements are satisfied by this gas, and judicious use of insulation keeps the usage very moderate.

So my ‘heavy’ conversion to many electric cars has impacted the neighborhood grid no more than the typical ice drivers in neighboring homes.
