The 2024 Cadillac Celestiq made its formal introduction in 2022 as the luxury brand’s all-new, all-electric flagship, offering sumptuous luxury and extreme levels of customization. Fast forward to November of this year, and GM Authority published photos of the luxury sedan’s key fob, and frankly, the fob looked pretty ordinary for a vehicle that starts at $340,000. Now, however, Cadillac has informed GM Authority that the production-spec Cadillac Celestiq key fob will be more premium than what was originally published.
For those readers who may have missed it, GM Authority recently published a series of photos captured at a Cadillac event showing what was believed at the time to be the Cadillac Celestiq key fob. During an event, a Cadillac representative told GM Authority that the Celestiq that was on display was production-ready, which also meant the key fob. Although the fob shown in the original GM Authority article did include a Habanero painted backing, matching the exterior paint of the vehicle, the rest of the fob looked to be pretty standard stuff.
Now, however, GM Authority has learned that this key fob is in fact not representative of the actual key fob that will be included with the production-spec Cadillac Celestiq.
“We intend on painting every part black and offering a more premium look on the production Celestiq key fob,” a Cadillac spokesperson told GM Authority. “Each fob will also come with a metal NFC card as we distinguish Celestiq as the flagship for the brand.”
For readers who may be unaware, an NFC card (or Near Field Communications card) incorporates wireless short-range communications technology that can be used to complete a variety of simple tasks.
GM Authority asked for further details regarding the “more premium look” of the Cadillac Celestiq key fob, to which Cadillac responded:
“Unfortunately, we cannot share additional information at this time.”
As always, we’ll keep an eye on this story and provide any updates as we receive them, so stay tuned. In the meantime, subscribe to GM Authority for more Cadillac Celestiq news, Cadillac news, GM electric vehicle news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

How large is it? If it is small, most men cannot press the tiny buttons. And we see that the fob has two trunk buttons, one forward and one rear. Can one buy it for a different GM model?
Do you, or anyone else on this forum really care what the key fob looks like on a $350,000 Cadillac? I’m not even sure the 3 people who actually purchase the $350,000 Cadillac will give even a millisecond of thought about the key fob…
Just like I said in the original story “For all we know this is just a placeholder and GM Authority thought they had some major scoop.”
Maybe the entire car is a “placeholder”…
So pretty much, an all black fob with metal buttons or color matched buttons. The card wouldn’t be necessary unless the card has something along the lines of “ standard of the world “ in various colors. I hope this sells well for Cadillac
Remember, if you lose or destroy the key fob it will probably cost you $500.00 and an afternoon in the dealership to get it replaced and working. For a 340K vehicle a service technician should drive to you and hand you a replacement key fob.
GM does offer that in select cities.
It cost me around $200.00 to purchase and have programed a new key fob for my 2014 Malibu.
This was about two months ago.
IMO, there should be a premium keyfob for the Escalade also. Include future high-end Cadillacs to the list too that will be flagships.
Glad to hear that the public shamed GM into changing the key-fob.
But why not just use your Cell and offer Cards like Tesla for backup?
Luxury is NOT having to carry keys and or Fobs
The real reason Tesla offers their NFC keycard instead of a standard fob is because it saves THEM tons of money. There’s a reason why they offer a fob for sale separately on their store.
Many people prefer the reliability of a traditional key fob. I can tell you my Model 3 would occasionally not lock itself which was a total dealbreaker for me.
Plus, with a vehicle as high end as the Celestiq, a lovely, custom, physical key fob is part of the experience. I for one, think this vehicle should get a totally unique key fob (maybe all Cadillac EVs should have their own) as the standard one is pretty junky to me…
@Yup
Not saying you are wrong but I have not had a key fob for four years and I cannot fathom going back to carrying one again Lol
Not saying everyone thinks like me though. But yeah a really bespoke Key Fob would be part of the experience I guess.
Yeah I totally get that. It was wonderful when it worked correctly. That pretty much defines my entire Tesla experience lol.
HaHa
I just add windshield wiper fluid couple of times a year and do Tire Rotations (which Tesla does at my office while I work)
Horrible car pics! Stop using your phone Johnathan!
This is another Allante and XLR, that go to the waste side!
Was very confident Cadillac had a plausible explanation.
CT6 would have been a hit had Cadillac put this much effort into design. Its unique, controversial, and a perfect halo
Guess someone at GM read this blog! the initial try was a bit off the plate!
You’d think it would be Swarovski crystals and carbon fiber or something a little more special than the usual GM plastic or aluminum.
Its an neat touch that the profile of car on the buttons for the trunk releases is the profile of the Celestiq.
I hope they aren’t going to put black paint over silver metal. My Cadillac ELR uses that look and of my three fobs, the worn off black paint makes the Cadillac fob looks the worst. I think something in a polished wood or maybe carbon fiber would be distinctive though carbon fiber screams ‘performance’ to me which is not the Celestiq’s mission
IT IS GOING TO TAKE MORE THAN A DIFFERENT KEYPAD TO GET THIS TURKEY SOLD. I LIKE THE IDEA THE PERSON ABOVE HAD, THAT ALL THIS MONEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN SPENT IN A NEW CT6 AND GM WOULD HAVE HAPPY CUSTOMERS. I AM GETTING TIRED OF WAITING FOR THE NEXT CADILLAC TO REPLACE MINE.
GM should have learned from the BMW 7 series. 40% depreciation as soon as the front tires leave the dealership. Sucker born every minute.
