The U.S.-spec 2024 Buick Envista officially broke cover this past April, with GM pulling the sheets on an affordable, small, premium crossover. Notably, the new Buick Envista presents what’s known as a “crossover coupe” body style, which is a vehicle design that’s become increasingly popular over the years. As such, the new Envista could be considered a crossover coupe for the masses.
For those readers who may be scratching their heads, the crossover coupe body style typically refers to a crossover with a sloping, graceful roofline, as opposed to the more boxy, upright roofline of a traditional crossover model. The crossover coupe design is thought to provide a more sporty and elegant look compared to the utilitarian styling of a more traditional crossover roofline.
A few popular examples of the crossover coupe body style include the BMW X4 and X6, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class Coupe and GLE-Class Coupe, the Audi Q5 Sportback and Q8, and the Porsche Cayenne Coupe. However, looking over this list, one thing should be glaringly obvious – the crossover coupe body style is typically relegated to high-end luxury vehicles, with the models listed here ranging between $50,000 and $150,000.
The Buick Envista looks to buck this trend, bringing the crossover coupe body style to the masses thanks to a starting price of $23,495. One could even argue that the Envista helps to “democratize” the crossover coupe body style, and could provide motivation to other automakers thinking about bring additional crossover coupes to market with non-luxury vehicle price tags.
As a reminder, the 2024 Buick Envista features the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine as standard, with output rated at 136 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Vehicle styling was inspired by the Buick Wildcat EV concept, while an 11-inch diagonal touchscreen and eight-inch diagonal Driver Information Center are both equipped as standard.

Problem is, try finding one. According to AutoTrader, that most dealers are on, there are only 2,000 on lots nationwide. 9,000 Trax. Most clustered on the West Coast. Only 60 Trax within 300 miles of me on the SC coast. Something is VERY wrong with this picture. Hyundai/Kia have no issues getting Korean-made models across the country.
Another example of “rectal – cranial inversion”! LOL!
Yes, very odd.
Quite a few of them for sale here in the MidWest……not sure it has anything to do with where they came from.
Didn’t Honda try this with the “CrossTour” which as I recall was a flop back in the day?
I still can’t get past calling anything with 4 doors a “coupe.” Otherwise, it looks nice.
The next step will be lowering it and calling it a “sedan hatchback”!
What is next, stretching SUVs into mini-van like vehicles?!
Over many years I’ve seen vehicles morph into different “new” body types and come full circle to become a fresh new, old shape.
California has a high demand for NON US built cars that is why. Even preferring import brands vs US brands built by the same people. NUMI GM models were excoriated and Toyotas were praised- exact same car exact same production line. Only difference was the badges.if people’s tastes did not change we still would be driving Belvederes and Impalas.
Unfortunately most of gm’s vehicles in the CUV segment are non-US built.
As Joseph mentioned a coupe does NOT have 4 doors. I don’t see its look as a strong point.
Funny thing is Europeans LOVE coupe crossovers. We hate them. Glad I’m on this side of the pond.
1.2 L …. smaller than most touring motorcycles.
Got to keep EPA happy
Toyota Honda Even Ford start most of their lineups with 4 cylinders, even their hybrids. Don’t blame the EPA for GMs’ engineering failures.
Yeah, 4-door Hatchback .
Hey, Google. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the never-ending trashy pop-up ADs .
Like I said, “Can’t tell you.”
3 cylinder with a hair dryer attached. NO thanks! Keep those $25,000 junkers in Korea and China!
Kyle,Go Out And Test Drive One, Take It out On The Highway, You Will Be Surprised At The Performance Of That 3 cylinder!
No thanks John, I will keep my full sized 2019 Buick Lacrosse V6 AWD that gets 31mpg (on demand cylinder deactivation) with a 9 speed automatic. No problems in 3 years, 41,000 miles. When that wears out I will find another low mileage Lacrosse or 2019 Chevy Impala. Buick has nothing I would want now except an Enclave and those run $48,000 to $56,000. Way too much $$.
Speaking of that, they need to offer an awd variant for Colorado, they would kill Subaru as a brand
But how long is that 3 cylinder going to last?
As long as any other engine you properly maintain.
At this price point, there won’t be any in stock anywhere. A great looking car. Very under powered, but, would make a good city / village errand vehicle. Kudos to the styling folks.
I have to disagree , we have a new Trax in the fleet and the power is completely adequate for those that buy it.
We had a 21 Nissan Sentra and this car replaces it. It feels every bit as powerful as the Nissan, I had it on the highway last week with 3 passengers aboard. The little turbo climbed hills with ease and had surprising power to pull out and pass traffic on the hills.
People who complain about the lack of power simply have not driven the car ! The Trax/ Envista is one of the best new cars GM has brought to market in decades !!!
“Its a powerful as an old Nissan Sentra!!!”
Well, I’m sold.
You should be writing add copy for GM.
It’s not underpowered at all, but it’s not a Corvette stalker either. Has absolutely no trouble getting up and going, you can even roast the tires if you care to. The numbers on paper don’t do it justice.
This is the start of the full circle. Lower it, equip it with a wheel tire combination 27 inches tall and as the crowning touch an LS3 with a manual 6 speed.
You wish.
Encore Hatchback with the same …
“Baby Shark, DooDoo DooDoo DooDoo” front end.
Thanks now I have that damn song in my head.
Actually, the Envista came out with the new front end before the Encore so the Encore is an Envista that looks like an SUV…..
I’ve liked this since they first showed the actual car in pictures and the more I see them the more I like it. I much prefer this type of “crossover” to the traditional “crossover” with the box look. For the money, I feel this is a tremendous vehicle and for the sake of Buick, I hope it does very well for them. If I were looking to go back to ICE, I’d certainly get one (Avenir) that’s fully painted in the blue.
Not wild about a turbo on a dinky engine but this TRAX 2wd cousin does have an actual 6 speed tranny with real gears. Great looking car at giveaway price. No CVT like encore gx.
Not sure what oil and filter chg out intervals are, but extreme cleanliness of oil will be required. 3000 miles for GM dexos. Perhaps 5,000 miles for the best mobil one , but no further. That’s an acceptable compromise for a car that seemingly should be worth $10,000 more .
Unfortunately, another negative I have found is a rubber/plastic timing belt which runs in oil, to be replaced at 40,000 mile intervals. How much will dealer charge to do that I wonder?
The 1.3 liter almost identical engine has a metal timing belt serviced at 150,000 mile intervals. Only problem is this engine is unavailable for any Envista !!!
Just checked to see what is involved to change out in oil timing belt of 1,000 cc ford fiesta. Basically around $2,000. Hopefully won’t be that much here. But it is obvious GM doesn’t help much after the sale.
The timing chain AND timing belt for the GM 3-cylinders both get replaced at 150,000 miles or 15 years, according to the manual. Not sure where you heard that, but it’s wrong.
They must be using a new fangled rubber that FORD has never heard of. I for one would LOVE to see a teardown of the 1200 cc timing belt at 60,000 miles and see how much of it has delaminated.
Unfortunately, the metal timing belts do not seem as rugged as those from years past, either.
I heard the 40,000 mile figure from a you tube video PRAISING the engine. I’ll have to look for it.
Downloaded 2024 TRAX owner manual. Couldn’t believe my eyes but says change rubber in oil timing belt every 150,000 miles in normal service. No mention of 15 years. But whatever.
Identical engine in Buick.
Warranty is 5 yr 60,000 miles. Question is if belt snaps before this do they give you a free engine?
Question 2: Why does Ford’s similar 1,000 cc 3 cylinder rubber timing belt in oil engine wear out so much faster?
Question 3: recommended DEXOS 5W-30 or 0W-30 oil is changed every 7,500 miles even with Turbo.
!!!!! ???????
I would certainly change oil and filter the first time at 900 miles to get damaging manufacturing crap out of engine. And then do it again 3,000 miles later by similar reasoning.
Question 1: Yes? It’d be a warranty claim just like with other engines, as long as your oil changes are done according to the specified instructions.
Question 2: No idea. Bad rubber? Bad design? The Ford crank cog also is UNKEYED?! which blows my mind. The issue with the BOI in the Ford is that it breaks down and clogs the oil pickup, starving the engine and…..boom. I’m not worried about this one, though. A timing chain is capable of breaking, too. My GTI timing chain had stretched so much in 135K miles that the intake side was hopping up on it’s teeth. Luckily I changed it before it went kablam.
Question 3: Yes? Why is that !!!!???? worthy? I don’t plan on going that long either, but with all the work GM/Opel did on the 3-cylinders in the Trax/Trailblazer/Encore/Envista I don’t doubt the oil life…..why would they put themselves at risk for warranty repairs if they didn’t have to?
To each his own. Changed my new at the time volt at 1,000 miles on the engine, and never regretted doing so.
Engine purrs like kitten. Caddy ELR same thing. Small extra expense to avoid serious breakdowns. Now I just hope the dealer and Detroit Technician can get my half year old Caddy Lyriq’s $20,000 battery functional again. But they gave me another Lyriq for a loaner so they can take their time to fix it right..
Just another crappr little crossover.
Car is mammoth for the price.
The next generation BMW X2 has the same lines as this for twice the price. Hopefully they will offer awd in the future. Overall, a sharp looking car for the price. And, who cares where it’s built. I don’t think the Japanese care if a Honda is built in Ohio.
It was never designed for AWD because of the Encore GX. It’ll never get AWD for that reason.
Trax sales were #2 (500% increase) in its segment in Q2 ’23 and #5 “23 to-date (200%).

As usual, opinions in the online echo chamber don’t represent the opinions of buyers overall.
Yeah well if cheap Yugo’s were still sold here these same idiot people would buy them! They don’t care where these are made as long as they are cheap like fake car seat leather! When these 3 banger tuk-tuk engines start blowing up GM will warranty them no questions, because they will already have made billions selling said Trax!
Like the Vega?
Hey, the Vega was cheap to make and were quality builds! They were making 100-106 per hour so they were all fabulous!….
So I’m an idiot for buying my Trax? Wow! Opinions are like…..well, you get it.
I meant people who bought Yugo’s years ago, not you for buying a Trax. Anyway as you say, my opinion isn’t important. My neighbors have a newer Trax and didn’t know it wasn’t built here. Their other vehicle is a 2019 Equinox Premier. They also didn’t know that one was built in Ontario, Canada and not in the US. If these vehicles had big ‘Made in Mexico’ or ‘Made in Korea’ signs located near the window sticker, maybe they wouldn’t sell so well…..???
I don’t think the vast majority of people care where a car is built. I don’t think a big “Made in South Korea” sign would stop anyone, look at how much Hyundai/KIA have grown in the last decade and they make very good cars. A lot of Silverado’s aren’t built in America….I don’t see anyone calling them crap or doubting their ability to sell based on where they came from.
Then the emblems on the trucks should denote Silao/Chevrolet and Canadian/Chevrolet so people know exactly what they are getting!!
That implies that they are built differently based, again, on geography. They are not. How do we explain, then, all the wonderful “quality” of GM in the past? They were built here, apparently that’s the only requirement for a car to be good. So, explain Toyota and Honda cars built in Japan.
I didn’t ever say anything about quality, I said be transparent where it is made and don’t hide it in the VIN like it’s an American built vehicle!! They are NOT. Kia, Toyota and Honda are all fine vehicles.
It’s not hidden in the VIN “like it’s an American built vehicle” ALL vehicles have it on the Monroney Label. They ARE transparent, it’s required by law to say it on the label where the final assembly is and the country of origin for the parts content. I don’t get how you think it’s “hidden”.
“Like it’s an American built vehicle” sounds like you’re trying to accuse them of deceiving us because it isn’t in 6-inch high letters and Braille on the side of the car. “American built” means, what, exactly these days? Do you think people are buying it only because they may be daft enough to see “Chevrolet” and think “American made”? My Trax was built in South Korea, and I love my car. My GTI was built in Germany, I love that car, too. My Sonic was built in Michigan, I loved it too, loved enough that I sold it to my daughter and now she loves it. I guess I just don’t understand what you’re implying.
The Envista is a Buickerea. Not a Buick. Real Buicks like the Enclave are built in the USA by Americans on American assembly lines. That is what I am implying. Spend your money as you see fit.
“The Envista is a Buickerea. Not a Buick. Real Buicks like the Enclave are built in the USA by Americans on American assembly lines. That is what I am implying. Spend your money as you see fit.”
That’s the most asinine thing I’ve ever read. Jesus. So what is a Toyota built in America?
See ‘GM Retired’ comment about imports.
Great looking vehicle with a lot of inherent potential. Now, offer it with AWD and an American-built 1.5T engine. These vehicles coming from Asia need to have significant American/Canadian content in them. Transplant, foreign auto operations in the US typically have anywhere from 20% to 50% American/Canadian content yet the American-branded vehicles imported from Asia have little to no domestic content. GM can win over more buyers of these vehicles if they increase the domestic content.
For that matter most US built GM cars outside of the body and seats are 80% non US-Can content
Everyone misses the point of this and the Trax, wanting a bigger engine and AWD. That’s not their purpose. It’s a low price and that’s all. It won’t get either, ever.
Yes another GM imported vehicle. This one is from Korea
Shove that up where the sun don’t shine Mary Barry.
I will never buy a foreign vehicle.
Time to either pass away or get a knock in the head.
Well as long as the UAW keeps doing its thing every 4 years, GM will have to make cars where they can afford the labor.
Last I checked Silverado’s and Sierra’s made at Silao Mexico plant and sold here are the SAME price as the same vehicles built in Fort Wayne, Indiana (Silverado), and Oshawa, Canada (Sierra). The only way to tell where the trucks were built is one single letter is different in the VIN. If they do save on labor they certainly don’t pass it on to the buyer. So there goes your 4 year union thing (theory)…
Also, Canada has auto unions and so does The Mexico Silao plant. Silao ousted the old union and formed an independent GM union.
GM said the agreement “will benefit our workers.” SINTTIA last year became the first independent union in the history of GM’s Silao plant after workers ousted their long-time labor representatives, opening the door to the prospect of bigger pay raises. Again, there goes your 4 year union theory.
It’s really a shame that GM is such a joke. A car company should be run by car people. Mary doesn’t care about anything but her bonus. Mark Reuss isn’t half the man his father was. The Board can’t make a decision to save their own sorry behinds. Fire every unclassified and start over. Maybe there’s still a chance to save the company.
This thing has less HP than my 2000 Ford Escort did. And that was slow with a manual and hundreds of lbs less.
So don’t buy it.
The Trax does 0-60 in 8.5 seconds, that’s not that bad, especially for a crossover.
I just bought a 1991 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser, so I have the original “slope-back” and a REAL station wagon!
Good for you….so why even bother to come to this thread? Simply to post some irrelevant “get off my lawn” old man rant?
Back to the Cabin, itself. I just love the absolute cheapest version. Old-school tachometer and separate speedometer. Perfectly fine 8″ infotainment display for six speaker sound system. Active noise cancellation as in cousin TRAX for quiet ride.
Well done for such a low cost.
The Envista is an all-digital IP car, there is no mechanical tach/speedo like in the Trax. 8 inch driver display, 11 inch infotainment is standard on every Envista.
Analog looking gauges in basic TRAX are kinda digital. They kinda start out digital at the Ecm but are converted back. But I like the look.
