The 2023 Chevy Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon introduce an all-new third generation for each respective pickup truck nameplate, ushering in a long list of updates and changes compared to the preceding second-generation vehicles. Among the list of updates is a new powertrain, with a turbocharged four-cylinder equipped as standard across the lineup. Now, owners looking to add a little aural enhancement to their midsize pickup can look forward to a new Borla cat-back exhaust system, as featured in the following brief video.
For those readers who may be unaware, the third-generation 2023 Chevy Colorado offers three engine options, including the turbocharged 2.7L Turbo I4 L2R gasoline engine (237 horsepower, 260 pound-feet of torque), the turbocharged 2.7L Turbo Plus I4 L3B gasoline engine (310 horsepower, 391 pound-feet of torque, no longer offered for the 2024 model year), and the range-topping 2.7L Turbo High-Output I4 L3B gasoline engine (310 horsepower, 430 pound-feet of torque, adopting the TurboMax branding for the 2024 model year). Meanwhile, the third-generation 2023-model-year-and-above GMC Canyon is equipped as standard with the Turbo High-Output 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine (310 horsepower, 430 pound-feet of torque). All engines listed connect to the second-generation GM eight-speed automatic transmission.
The new Borla S-Type exhaust system for the third-generation 2023 Chevy Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon is available in two configurations, including a dual passenger-side exit exhaust layout, as well as a single-pipe, high-clearance Climber exhaust layout. The dual passenger-side exit exhaust includes a single-in and dual-out configuration with dual four-inch tips in a Black Chrome finish. The inner pipes of the system include a three-inch diameter exhaust feeding dual 2.25-inch pipes for the outlet. Meanwhile, the high-clearance Climber exhaust includes a three-inch pipe diameter, a single-in, single-out configuration, with a single turndown tailpipe after the axle for extra clearance when adventuring off-road.
Both systems are made from T-304 stainless steel, and include a million-mile warranty. Both systems are expected to be available soon.
Check out what the new exhaust sounds like in the brief demonstration video below:

That is embarrassing…and one of the biggest reasons I’m concerned about the lack of V6 and larger options these days. I love a good sounding exhaust and no turbo 4cyl is doing it for me these days.
Now in my younger years I did have a 4cyl turbo Eclipse, but even that had a better sounding rumble than this thing. 2.5 downpipe, cat delete, and 3″ Thermal R&D carback was not buzzy like most of the late 90’s imports.
That sounds horrible!
Boy I hop my Denali does not sound like that. I’m assuming you have to order that extra because I definitely don’t want that!
How can you judge a vehicles sound from a video?
I myself would like to know more about the Borla exhaust.
Borla is a well respected brand and has been putting out videos like this for a long time. I trust they are as true as can be. I’ve also purchased several exhaust systems based on only ever hearing them through the internet. My ears know what I like and they haven’t failed me on past decisions.
The Borla markering rep has entered the chat
Not sure if you are referring to me…no sir, not a rep for any exhaust company. In fact, I’ve never actually purchased a Borla for any of my vehicles. Just saying this isn’t some risky dink no name company that is putting out the videos. It was in response to the guy who didn’t think we could “judge a vehicles sound by a video”. I currently run a Magnaflow system that sounds exactly like it did in their video as it does on my vehicle. And before that a set up for my C5 vette that I only heard through sound clips.
Lol no, my reply was to the borla marketing rep, Dan
This is one vehicle where the exhaust should be as quiet as possible. I respect Borla, even using one of their exhaust kits on my Silverado with the 6.2 V8. It isn’t Borla’s fault the Colorado has a 4-banger. GM is doing their best with the EPA’s over reaching requirements. Whenever government is involved fun is replaced with mundane.
What a bunch of idiots on this site as usual! Borla just makes a less restrictive exhaust that reveals what’s hidden from the factory. If you like your truck, good for you. If you like your truck loud, good for you. If you like loud I4 engines and turbos, good for you. Borla did not make a bad product because you don’t like the sound. The engine makes the sound it makes because it is what it is. If you don’t like the sound, don’t buy the exhaust, it’s that simple. In all honesty, no one thinks it sounds sexy, it’s just that some guys feel a truck has to have engine and exhaust sounds no matter the engine period. If I was gonna buy this truck from Nonspecific Motors, I would leave it stock, but that’s my opinion.
Hilariously bad. This video could double for their April fools
Would not install on my 2023 Colorado if it was free, sounds terrible!!!!
Save your money.
You may be better off just cutting out the muffler and welding in a straight pipe or a resonator.
I would never want to make a 4 Cylinder louder. The exhaust should be as quiet as possible on 4 cylinders since they sound so terrible.
Borla = V8. End of story.
The borla exhaust, ie GM performance exhaust, sounds pretty good on the colorado 3.6. Yea. Not v8 sound, but I still think it sounds better than stock. I like it…
Looks like Oxnard
I had a borla on my 02 Silverado 5.3 , it had a great sound. I am surprised borla would make an exhaust for this engine. BAD idea, sorry I hate the sound of 4 bangers with an exhausts
my lawnmower sounds better than that. Can’t beat a V8 for that great sounding exhaust.
Sounds like a weed eater on steroids’!!!! No thanks
I only buy Corsa Exhaust for my GM small block V8’s!!
That sounds terrible…like a glorified weed trimmer, and that’s being nice.
I have the Chevrolet Performance Exhaust on my 2018 V6, which sounds much, much better than that..not even close.
