The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 adds two new exterior colors to its palette: Downpour Metallic and Thunderstorm Gray. Here’s our first look at the new Gray hue.
Assigned RPO code GNO and touch-up paint code WA-633D, Thunderstorm Gray is one of 11 exterior colors offered on the light-duty pickup truck, which include:
- Cardinal Red
- Deep Bronze Metallic
- Dynamic Blue Metallic
- Onyx Black
- Sterling Metallic
- Summit White
- Titanium Rush Metallic
- Volcanic Red Tintcoat
- White Frost Tricoat
- Downpour Metallic (new for 2024)
- Thunderstorm Gray (new for 2024)
The Thunderstorm Gray color is an extra-cost option priced at $495. It is available on all trim levels except SLT, Denali, and Denali Ultimate and can be combined with all available interior colorways.
For reference, here are the six available interior colorways offered on the 2024 Sierra 1500:
- Jet Black (Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, Denali)
- Dark Walnut/Slate (SLE, SLT)
- Jet Black with Kalahari accents (AT4)
- Obsidian Rush (AT4X)
- Atmosphere/Brownstone (Denali)
- Alpine Umber (Denali Ultimate)
The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is motivated by a significant lineup of powerplant options. These include the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine (now branded as TurboMax), rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine producing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine generating 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and, finally, the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
One significant engine change for the 2024 Sierra is the use of the LZ0 turbodiesel as the standard power source for the off-road-oriented 2024 GMC Sierra AT4X. The L87 gasoline engine, formerly the only powerplant for the Sierra AT4X, is now available as an option.
Also, the 2024 Sierra 1500 offers a new drop-in bedliner.
Production of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is currently under way at both the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and the GM Silao plant in Mexico.

Nice primer.
Where’s the paint?
Battle Ship Gray.
It “POPS” in the middle of a Walmart parking lot .
I love GM trucks but they sure do insist on making them as ugly as possible with dull paint and black wheels.
These lollipop wheels are just boring!!
I’m waiting for the eagerly anticipated
“Clincally-Depressed Granite Stone Mausoleum Gray” .
Why does GM continue to show the new Downpour Metallic (Sierra), and Lakeshore Metallic blue(Silverado) colours on their respective websites, yet the actual real life colour is dramatically a lighter shade? If this isn’t a case of total misrepresentation, I don’t know what is. Do the Sales/ Marketing people not notice this? I ordered my new Silverado 1500 and to my surprise, thought the colour should have been more towards the navy blue pictured on the website, Very disappointed! Buyers beware!
‘Radiant Red’ is just the opposite.
In print and on the screen they make it look bright cherry red. In “life” it looks dark burgandy .
How exciting , boring gray and ugly black wheels.
Wow another ugly non-metallic color. It looks like glossy primer.
Whoever buys that color better drive with lights on at all times, that will blend right in with the pavement!
No Thanks, just got my ’24 Silverado LTZ 2500 HD Auburn Metallic back in August. Gideon very dark atmosphere interior. Was skeptical all through the waiting period, absolutely nothing on dealer lots to go see. Dealer calls, go look at truck, awesome colors in and out! Not black, white or some shade of gray with jet black interior.
The boomers have let the battleship grey had it…. I’m a millennial and I think it looks dope, more specifically give me the Denali with blacked out trim. And I guarantee you a large amount of buyers will flock to it.
Chrome and gloss paint are dead, powder coating is in. Even Harley’s are doing away with it. I can’t believe I’m the minority here
