As GM Authority covered in September 2023, the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD was not available to be ordered with a few 20-inch wheel options. Now, one of these massive rollers is back on offer for the Bow Tie brand’s heavy-duty pickup lineup.
After being unavailable for a few months, the optional LPO, 20-inch Machined Aluminum Bolt Pattern wheels with High Gloss Black accents (RPO code SQ9) is available to be option on the 2024 Silverado HD once again. Notably, the feature was previously optional on LT, LTZ and High Country trim levels for an additional $3,350.
For clarity’s sake, an LPO option is one where the feature is installed at the dealer, rather than at the factory where the vehicle was built.
As a reminder, the SQ9 feature is one of 14 different wheel options, with wheel sizes ranging between 17 inches and 22 inches in diameter. Interestingly, the 20-inch wheel option appears to have been the size under constraint lately, as both the 20-inch Bright Chrome eight-spoke alloy wheels (RPO code S8A) and 20-inch Bright Chrome 12-spoke alloy wheels (RPO code Q7G) options are currently under constraint.
Under the hood, the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD is powered as standard by the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the optional 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine, which has been uprated to 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque for the 2024 model year, is also available as an upgrade. Both engines are mated to the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission.
Under the body panels, the Chevy Silverado HD rides on a more-capable variant of the GM T1 platform, which it shares with its corporate platform-mate, the 2024 GMC Sierra HD. Production officially kicked off in March 2023 at the GM Flint plant in Michigan, and a few weeks later at the GM Oshawa plant in Canada.
