2024 Chevy Equinox EV RS In Black: Live Photo Gallery

Making its formal introduction in September of the 2022 calendar year, the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV is set to bolster the Bow Tie brand’s all-electric portfolio with a new, small crossover body style that slots in below the Chevy Blazer EV. The all-new Chevy Equinox EV is expected to launch in Q1 of the 2024 calendar year. Now, we’re taking a closer look at the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV RS Launch Edition, this time showing up in Black paint in the following GM Authority Live Photo Gallery.

Per usual, the RS trims are offered as the sportier models in the Chevy Equinox EV lineup, with the sharp lines and Black paint (paint code GBA) lending the crossover a stealthy look that complements the silent EV powertrain. Up front, we see a blocked-off fascia design with a dimpled pattern design for the grille plate and lower intake section, while the red RS badge pops out as the only splash of color. The front Bow Tie badge is ringed in silver, while the lighting treatment includes thin upper lighting signatures and larger forward-facing lights set deep into the fascia.

The profile reveals a relatively low-slung roofline and tinted rear glass, adding to the stealthy vibes, while the five-spoke alloy wheels are also finished in black. These particular rollers are 21 inches in diameter, and are tagged with RPO code RVV. The Chevy Equinox EV logo is seen lower in the front doors, including the signature blue “E”. The door handles are also set flush against the door panels, a feature that’s notably missing from the Blazer EV, despite the latter’s more-premium placement in the all-electric Chevy crossover lineup,

Finally, the rear end of this 2024 Chevy Equinox EV RS Launch Edition shows us wide rear fenders, additional badging, and more of the dimpled, geometric texturing already seen up front.

As a reminder, the Chevy Equinox EV range offers a variety of different trim levels and configurations, with range-per-charge up to 300 miles. GM Ultium Drive motors and GM Ultium batteries provide the motivation, while the GM BEV3 platform provides the underlying structure. Production will take place at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant next year.

    1. This one isn’t rushed. It actually was delayed to help GM resolve software issues encountered with other vehicles.

    2. Some people amaze me. If they take the time to properly release a vehicle, you get the usual suspects crying they’re taking too long. Then, the same suspect will cry that the vehicle was rushed out and has problems. You’re right. Stop rushing things out.

      1. Well, Michael I sure wouldn’t want them to Rush….. Only took (depending on who is counting), only 12 or 18 months to get my 2023 LYRIQ to me, of course, then they had big paint shop problems since they said the vehicle was only available in Optional at Extra Cost Black. Standard Silver unavailable, nor the Blue Metallic which I had ordered 12 months previously.

        And, it only took them a month to replace the propulsion battery after a super long 7,000 miles – at which point it refused to charge, even at 110.

        Elsewhere, I’ve detailed where GM corporate spent more than $25,000 to get my car fully functional again. No wonder they’ve issue a Stop Sale on these Vehicles.

        Compare this Mary Barra Era with the Bob Lutz Era from 13 years ago. Volt Gen 1s were flawless – they added buttressing to the battery out of an abundance of caution sometime later. 2014 Caddy ELR release Flawless – only problem I had with that car was the Chinese electric water pump failing outside of warranty, and the horrid Cadillac CUE infotainment system which affected almost all Caddys.

        Volt Gen 2 release pretty flawless also. Since Bob Lutz wouldn’t play the ‘Global Warming’ Game, he was strongly advised to leave…. I think it is more than coincidental that GM has had EV release problems ever since…. But I do like the extra $1,400 GM is going to give me for getting the bolt recall done in 2023. More money in my pocket.

        I’m in the Camp that believes GM really had something with the second generation VOLT.. MOST totally electric miles of any PHEV then or now, for a middle-class MSRP, that is…Very desirable car even though I have one of the very last 2019s. But no one in GM Management seems to care that they just discarded all the expensive technology development of these cars.
        The Ultium project is acting as though they spent NOTHING on development and are relying on all ‘field testing’ to sniff out troubles.

        1. All big organizations are the same. Too many managers, departments and confusion. Doesn’t make it right of course, but the corporate world needs to downsize and streamline things.

    1. They will deliver a hundred then have a stop on them for the rest of 24. Or worse, so many issues they will have to buy them back. GM management and engineers seem to be failing

      1. Sure, but then people like you will cry that they are taking too long to release a vehicle. Can’t have it both ways. Isn’t better to take longer and release it when ready, so you don’t whine that it has problems.

        1. Well aren’t they? They started the Bolt in 2017.
          The disappointing thing is they are not small startup who never made a car. But they are acting like it. When he CEO comes out and said they’ll beat tesla in a few years but cancels the best selling EVs before they have anything else to offer, well people should be frustrated. Mary has hired awful help that can’t build squat in years not months

  5. I don’t care for black cars, but I think the Equinox EV, in almost any other color, is ONE GOOD LOOKING SUV.

    1. I recently saw a blue 3LT model at the LA Auto Show but it was roped off so you couldn’t even sit in it.

      Compare this to VW, who had their ID4 available to not just sit it, but a VW rep would zoom you around the inside test track as a passenger AND they had another one outside that they would let you test drive.

      GM lost some sales to VW that day.

      1. Not sure what you were expecting.
        The ID4 has been on sale for a few years now. The Equinox has yet to be released.
        The new VW ID. Buzz is also not on sale in the US yet and I doubt the same rep wouldn’t let you zoom around the same test track in that model either.

        1. True, but they at least allowed you to sit in it. And indeed, that vehicle drew the biggest crowd. The Equinox, while nice looking, was largely ignored.

          1. GM only has 4 cars they take to the shows… so yeah they aren’t going to let you sit in them.
            Once the Vehicle is closer to release then you will have the chance.

            In September GM had a bunch of Blazer EVs you could ride in at the Detroit Show.

  6. Had interest a year ago, zero interest today. It’s not hard to see why.

    1. No Android Auto/CarPlay; not getting roped into subscriptions for my car when my phone through AA in my Bolt EV works just fine. No, it’s not about ease of use. No, it’s not about safety. It’s about money; easy no.

    2. The price has increased since announcement making the budget minded model dead on arrival. No only that, they won’t even sell the cheaper trim on release so there’s no interesting pricing to speak of. For the price, and charging speed, it’s sadly now an option to look at the Blazer EV if you’re in that price range. Why does this exist? Your average person is not going to drop that much for an Equinox badge; sorry.

    3. Since the announcement, GM has already mentioned the switch the NACS. Sure, there will be an adapter, some day. But that means this new model year is already outdated on release. It’s an awkward time for EV’s and GM isn’t the only manufacturer to do this. Honestly, no announcement should’ve been made until they were ready to actually deliver vehicles with NACS.

    4. The reliability issues regarding the entire Ultium line up is already well known. It’s not just a single article, it’s multiple with owner accounts. The tech needed more time in development. This is sad considering the Bolt EV, other than battery issues for 1st Gen, and the transmission programming for 2nd Gen, were pretty spot on.

    For me, it’s ultimately AA/CP and price that will keep me away. I love my Bolt; with faster charging it’d be the perfect car for me. For local commute it already is. For trips, it’s a pain. But GM, note this, your anti-consumer subscriptions and lack of affordable trims is not going to win you any customers. Your profit per unit may be higher, but your market cap, customer satisfaction, and PR will suffer. You’re not going to see any long term returns from this strategy. Whomever told you otherwise, internally or externally, needs a reality check. They’ve been working inside a bubble too long.

    1. A NACS and faster DCFC Bolt is what the average Joe needs. Equinox EV is ok too. What was a waste of time to me was the EV Silverado and Blazer.

  7. Yeah, I don’t know who is practically in charge of their Ultium Vehicle program….

    My 2023 RWD LYRIQ just came back from the dealer after a month. $1,500 charged to GM for a nicer LYRIQ Loaner (to avoid triggering NY State Lemon Law), and about $20,000 for a brand new propulsion battery. Then $3,000 for Dealer Tech’s Labor, and plenty extra for the Detroit Consultant to come to Buffalo Area to make sure the dealer did everything right, including reprogramming every single module in the car, as well as Align the long range radar to get the Super Cruise working properly after battery removal.

    Since the old battery is certainly repairable, lets say the whole shebang only cost GM Corporate $25,000.

    This means they will have to sell GOBS of flawless LYRIQs in the future to even break even on the sale to me.

    No surprise they issued a stop order…. My returned LOANER is not even allowed to be loaned out again until the Stop Order is removed…

    Not the most profitable way to Run a Railroad, as the old saying goes.

    1. Sorry that I offended the self appointed big experts here. Only thing I can state obviously is I got my car back and GM corporate spent the money for it all to happen .

      Now waiting for $1,400 free card for doing bolt recall by end of 2023 which I did. Thanks GM. Your poor designs keep putting money in my pocket.

          I’m not positive about all the details, but if you own a 2022 BOLT EUV as I do, initially they were going to give you a new propulsion battery, but later changed their minds – doing a ‘recall extended test’ on the existing battery…

          Supposedly it will run for 10,000 km (around 6,214 miles) then if nothing is wrong with the battery it will declare the recall over…. For the duration it will limit charging to 80% state of charge, and then move it back to 100% allowable after the extended test.

          GM offered to give you a $1,400 debit card if you got this ‘recall’ software installed by the dealer prior to 1/1/2024, which I did. Now I just have to go through the Chevy EV concierge red tape to actually get it from another Fulfillment Center, which of course I’m not allowed to speak to.

          But I’ve given then via fax my TITLE – proving that I own the car, as well as the dealer’s work performing the recall with the VIN matching the title.

          The downside here is that the offer was removed for 2024.

    2. That sounds like Tesla back in 2016-2018. They all have to go thru this phase before things get in order.

      1. Michael, Tesla built how many cars before 2016? You think an established experienced auto maker would be a lot better at all this unless they did what Harvard business types thought was cool and farm all their components and engineering out. This creates a huge knowledge void and destroys a companies ability to innovate. More reasons to hate Harvard business.
